Jillian Michaels

How about 30 Day Shred? The description on collage includes "high impact aerobics", but the clip doesn't show any aerobics at all. I don't like doing aerobics at home because I get too hot in my apartment, and it's no fun on carpet anyway. But I can do some because my living room floor has been soundproofed, so at least I don't have to worry about bothering the downstairs neighbors. I prefer to leave the heavy duty cardio to the gym, though. Would 30 Day Shred work for me, or should I just stick with "No More Trouble Zones" (by the way, probably the world's worst name for a WO. I can't imagine a person of the male persuasion giving it a second look).

Since using her stuff I've dropped 15 lbs and gone to 12.5 percent body fat.

WOWY, you go girl!! Those are some excellent results! :D

Okay, I'm intrigued. How often are you supposed to use Jillian's workouts (the ones mentioned in this thread). Can you use them with Cardio Coach?

Hi Miss Lee! There is no plan laid out by Jillian that specifically tells you how to do her workouts, but at the beginning of her NMTZ DVD the "recommendation" is to work out with Jillian at least 5x per week. I do her No More Trouble Zones 2-3x per week with results. Since NMTZ is a weight workout, Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism is a cardio workout, and 30 Day Shred is a cardio/weight/ab circuit, you could put together some sort of rotation the same way you would with Cathe videos. I think you'd be fine using NMTZ and 30 Day Shred with cardio coach! BFBM is pretty much all cardio though, so you might not want to do both on the same day. Hope this helps! :)

I have been thru STS 3 1/2. Now I am doing a second round of STS. I am advanced exereciser. Do you think these workout will still keep me from boring (too easy)? Also, like Ms. Lee, I would like to know how you use her workout. Can I use it in between STS days? Thanks

Hi! I think using Jillian's BFBM video between STS days would be fine. Her NMTZ is weight lifting though so I don't think you'd want to do that with STS. 30 Day Shred has cardo/weights/abs circuit, so that would be good for a circuit day. I don't think you'd get bored at all if you like endurance/circuit workouts! Hope this helps! :)

Ok so I caved. Her DVD's are a great price! I ordered the No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. Will it be easy to incorporate them with Cathe's workouts?

Hi Shannon! It's very easy to incorporate Jillian's workouts with Cathe, I am doing that right now. Just think of using them the same way you would use a Cathe full body weight workout or cardio DVD. Here is an example of what I'm currently doing:
M- Jillian NMTZ
T- Turbo Jam cardio
W- Jillian NMTZ
Th- OFF
Fri- Cathe Leg workout
Sat- Cathe Circuit
I also walk/run during the days I do my weight work.
Hope this helps! :)

Hi Nancy!
There is high impact cardio in 30 Day Shred, but I believe in each cycle it only lasts 3 minutes. It goes 3 minutes cardio, 2 minutes weights, 1 minute abs and then repeat. She does stuff like high knee runs, jump jacks, jump rope, skaters, etc. With NMTZ, the only "light" cardio you do is in the warm up, other than that it's all weight/ab work. Hope this helps in your decision! :)

Thanks! I've surprised myself. :) I was also surprised at how much I've enjoyed Jillian's workouts. When they were first suggested to me I thought, "really?" I also have her "Hot Bod in a Box" which is great as well! Have you tried that?

Here's an example of how I incorporate her workouts:

M: P90x Shoulder and Arms + kickboxing class
T: yoga and treadmill run
W: 30 Day Shred/NMTZ/a circuit from Hot Bod in a Box
TR: Banish Fat/Boost Metabolism
F: P90x Chest and Back and extra legs if I feel like I need it

I am not sure what you mean by "weight lifting", but NMTZ is NOT a weight workout. Jillian uses 3 lb dumbbells through the entire workout. I use 5 lbs. It's definitely great for toning and defining, but there is no weight lifting involved. It would not build muscle in any way.

That said, I agree that 30 DS would be good for a circuit day.:)

Here is a typical week for me using these three workouts....

Two levels of 30 Day Shred (I do Level 2 and 3), plus a 3 mile run.
No More Trouble Zones, plus a 3 mile run
Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, plus a 3 mile run
Cathe Slow & Heavy split, plus a 3 mile run
Cathe Slow & Heavy split, plus a 3 mile run
Firm Volume One
Jillian's Ripped 1000, plus 3 mile run
Start over the next week......
Two levels of 30 Day Shred, plus 3 mile run
Muscle Max, 3 mile run
BFBM
Amy Bento Slo-Mo, 3 mile run
Amy Bento Slo-Mo, 3 mile run
Butts & Gutts, 3 mile run
NMTZ, 3 mile run

I do not do rotations, so what I've just indicated is just a possible senario. I pretty much decide what I'm doing about 3 minutes before I do it, but I try to alternate workout types and upper/lower body day to day.

Also, I don't always run immediately after I work out. Some days I work out in the AM and run in the PM. It gives me a few hours recovery time.

Just as an FYI, not that it's important, but there is actually no such thing as "toning" a muscle. You are either building, maintaining or losing muscle. You can't tone it.

Nancy - I wonder if they say "high impact aerobics" because it has things like jumping jacks. I don't remember there being any actual "hi/lo" type aerobics included. I never bought NMTZ so I can't help you on that one. Personally, I found Jillian's personality and giggling annoying. Maybe because I am so used to her being "tough" on The Biggest Loser, having her giggle and joke with the background exercisers was weird! I just sold my 30 Day Shred on ebay or I would send it to you!

Oopsy, don't want to confuse Wantfit with my language. I guess anytime I "lift" a weight, I call is "weight lifting" :p. I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that it's not for muscle building. I still don't think it would work with STS because I believe the two programs have completely different goals in mind (although I will admit that I don't own or know too much about STS, just what I read here). I apologize if I'm wrong! The workout utilizes low weights with high reps, so whatever you want to call it, that's what it is! :)

I haven't tried her Bod in a Box, but know I am going to research it! :D Thanks for posting your rotation, I was going to ask you how you use Jillian's workouts. I have P90X so I could try something like that in the future! Congrats again on your awesome results!

Thanks for the clarification! That makes sense now that you explain it. I was thinking you meant weight lifting as in strength building heavy weights!

Thanks again! :D
