JEANS!!

Just wondering if anyone out there has the same contempt for jeans that I do. I can NEVER get them to fit, and when I finially find a pair that looks OK, they are AT LEAST one size larger than what I wear in everything else. Am I crazy or is this a common thing? I can usually wear a size 6-8 in most things, but for jeans, I'm up to a 10 or more. I hate to be size obsessed but it is distressing.
Any thoughts ladies??

I think there was some wacky weed was going around the day the measurements for the sizes went around! Am I allowed to say that?!;-) Nothing fits the same for one size. I am all over the place for sizes.

It all depends on what size the fit model is that they use. They usually fit at a 6 or an 8 and then size the rest up or down accordingly. If their fit model is a small 6, then everything else will be smaller. And cheaper brands tend to use LESS material, so you'll usually take a smaller size in a more expensive brand.

ETA - I've been searching for the perfect pair of jeans my whole life and still haven't found them.:p

Also, there is no national standard for clothing sizing. Each clothing manufacturer pulls the measurements out of their butt, essentially. So you may wear a 6 in one brand and a 10 in another brand, but darned if those two pieces of clothing aren't exactly the same physical dimensions! Also, the kind clothing designers have give us vanity sizing - making us feel good about ourselves when we buy the expensive brand names because by intentionally making the sizes run larger. It's all a fraud, and size is just a meaningless number.

Sizes really depend on the manufacturer, I wear a size 2 in slacks and a 4 in Jeans. From Ann Taylor I would 1/2 but my sister bought a blouse that is from an European Designer and is a 6. Old Navy and the Express sizes are generous, I would have to find the smallest they make. Don't let the number bother you, if it fits, that is what matters. My favorite jeans are from Victoria Secret, it is called Very Sexy and now they have it in flared legs.

Don't despair! Keep in mind that if you get a lower rise jean the size will be a little bigger because the waist is closer to your hips. For me, the best fitting jeans are Lucky Brand and I usually get a size bigger than I wear in pants because I like low rise. Lucky's are ridiculously expensive ($70 - $100.00) so I buy all mine on ebay. They're really awesome because they are comfortable but really compliment the bum. Good Luck! Eventually you will find the perfect pair. :)

Oh, and if you buy them on ebay and they don't fit you can be assured that you can re-sell them for a profit as the bidding is always ferocious for Lucky's! :D

I used to hate shopping for jeans. I'm 50 now, 5'3". solid build, short waisted and the waist always gapped when it fit everywhere else. Then I found JAG jeans. They have a touch of Lycra so they fit really well. They are not cheap, $70-$80, but when I tried them on and my husband's eyes bugged out and I got a big "wow", I figured I'd pay anything. And best of all, they begin at size 2. I got mine at Von Maur's but I'm sure any high end department store carries them.

I FINALLY found a pair of jeans I love! They are Old Navy low rise (they are the medium low rise) and they are extremely flattering for my body type (short with wider hips and thighs and small upper body),and you can choose the right inseam length (I'm 5'2" and jeans are always way too long). The only thing I don't like is that they fit perfect when I take them out of the dryer, but once I wear them for a while and they stretch they get too big around the hips and then I'm constantly pulling them up. I have them in a 6 right now and am debating getting another pair in a 4 since they are the stretch fit kind. But I also don't want them to look like they are painted on.

I'm only 5' have a large butt and thighs. My favorite jeans are Ralph Lauren Saturday jeans. They fit great. They are very generous in the butt and thighs, fit great in the waist, and come in different lengths.

Try Levis 515. They're an excellent fit (for me) and are very comfortable. A friend recommended them to me, and then another friend told me that she had a pair and loved them, too. I purchased mine at Kohl's, but they can probably found in any store that sells Levis. I rarely respond in the forums. I just "lurk" as they say and learn from everyone else. This, however, is an issue that I've struggled with myself. I'm rather short legged, and the current styles don't always flatter me. I could easily echo the posts of others on this topic. Good luck.

I second the recommendation for JAG jeans. I bought mine at Nordstrom's. They even come in a size 0 - long, so I was thrilled to find something that fit so well. I have pairs in white, denim color and black.

I think sizes nowadays are all over the board. I can wear as little as a 0 in petites, although I'm a 2 or 4 most of the time, depending on the cut and style of the jeans or pants. I can fit into a size 5 in juniors, and even XL or 16 in girls -- if the style is loose.

Lee jeans fit me best. Also some of the pants by Petite Sophisticates and the petite department at Talbots. Just enough room in the butt area to accommodate what's there without the extra fabric sticking out in the hip area. The waist, however, is still loose. I've never found a pair of jeans that fit me right in both the waist and butt/hips. I settle for the pair that fits right in the butt/hips AND with the LEAST amount of fabric hanging from the waist. This way the waist doesn't have to pucker and bunch too much when I wear a belt.

I wish I can just go to a store, see what I like, find it in a 4P, take it home and have it fit. Every darn time I go pants shopping, I have to try on every pair. It's a PAIN especially when you're dragging a 4-year-old around.

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

The problem isn't jeans, it's ready-to-wear. In the ready-to-wear world, there are millions of clothes out there, and you have to try them all on until you find the ones that are right for your figure and it's SOOOO time consuming.

When I recently shopped for a mother-of-the-groom dress, I found a wonderful selection of styles and colors that they will tailor to my figure. And it wasn't even expensive. Why can't all clothing shopping be like that?

Why can't you go into a jean store, choose your fabric and then have them make a pair of jeans that works for your body? It would be great. I just can't afford the time to try on everything anymore.

I say Ready-to-wear is an idea whose time has passed.

I went to Anchor Blue once and found some Lucky jeans for about $90. the store staff said they would alter them to fit for free. But IMO there's something wrong with spending $90 on an article of clothing that will probably wear out in a few months. I usually stick with Old Navy because they're cheap and easily replaceable.

My favorite jeans are from Express, but they were the ones without lycra. Apparently, they don't make them anymore. It seems that lycra makes jeans stretch out too soon so they start bagging around the bum and sliding down the hips.

Oh no.. Lunacat. I haven't been there in awhile. I love my express jeans say it isn't so. My faves are non lycra too. I've had mine since '02 and they fit great.

Yes, I wear the same size as you. I'm a 6/8 in dresses, skirts and dress pants but as for jeans I'm a 10 for the most part. It drives me crazy! I did manage to find a pair of Calvin Klein's in 8's though.
