Good morning ladies...

Feeling the DOMS from Gym Style Chest & Triceps today..I knew I would since my muscles were shaking yesterday when I was done working out..Today I am going to try the last 2 workouts from shock cardio that I haven't done yet. The heavy bag boxing and the double wave Hiit...I don't have a heavy bag so I will do it without and use my weighted gloves for a little extra...

We have another busy day... Lauren has an appointment at the Dentist to have her xrays updated for the orthodontist and the kids have PE class this afternoon...

Talk to you later...

Good Morning!

I'm about to head downstairs to do GS: Legs. I'm surprisingly a LITTLE excited about it! Thinking about it in the middle of the night when I was awake (and that unfortunately enough, was a LOT).

Kathy: Do let us know what how the heavy bag workout is without the bag. I'm very curious! And how the double wave HiiT compares to the others (haven't done that one either).

Hottie: Sorry you didn't get out yesterday. I bet you'll make up for it today though! I swear, if I don't work out by 2pm, I can't do it. The day is over for me.

Beth:
How was your sausage soup? I ended up having Carribean Rice and Beans and hotdogs. OMG, it was so good!

So I just read this little blurb in Fitness magazine this morning. It's called "Thik Fit, Not Fat". Not that I need an excuse to keep my extra 10 lbs, but maybe I won't stress about it so much:

"Those last 10 lbs may not be worth the headache. A recent study found that women with a body mass index of 25-29.9 -- considered overweight by the NIH -- had a 23 percent lower risk of dying from any cause within 12 years than women who had "normal" BMIs. Why? Combined with regular exercises and eating right, being a little overweight may help protect the body as we age, says study coauthor Mark kaplan, Dr.P.H. women who don't sweat their curves may remain worry free, and "lower stress leels and a healhty lifestyle can add up to a longer life", he says. Want to dance at your 100th birthday party? Focus lesson getting slim and more on getting strong."

Good morning! Nice work on GS, ladies! Yes, Kathy, let us know how the heavy bag is -- I was thinking I might do it someday without a bag, too. My boys both so want a bag, even before this, and then they saw me previewing it and now they really really want one. But, we just don't have room for one, if you ask me!

Chris, I was awake in the night, too (apparently Hottie was, three!) and it was crazy windy out -- like thump, thump, thump windy -- and I kept thinking I might have to do some non-video workout in the dark. I think the power must have flickered, because the microwave clock needed to be reset, but anything with ups/batteries seemed to be ok, so it must not have been out long.

Glad you found a good dinner solution -- I have never made red beans and rice! Our soup was good -- it's a recipe I make often in the winter, but we haven't had it in a while. Almost had to make other plans because it looked like the store didn't have sausage (at the meat counter) but then I found some pre-packaged. Whew!

Oh, Chris, sorry the meditation made you feel yucky yesterday, especially after you were feeling so good! I wonder if you fell asleep and it was just the wrong amount to sleep. Are you going to keep trying it?

Have a good one!

Holy crap, my legs hurt!

haven't done that workout in a long long time. The freakin band work at the end.. Wow. How could I forget the outer thighs?? Doing STS for 3 months sure has me missing the other leg workouts. I kept thinking about L&G's, and Butts & Guts. So many good leg workouts to do, so little time! But , still, ouch!

Funny how many of us had a crappy night's sleep! Joanne and Kathy, you'll have to check in with that too. ... And then at one point I was awake, staring at the wall, thinking of who knows what, and Jake walks up to me, in the dark, and I SCREAMED bloody murder! And HE screamed bloody murder! And my damn Kiwi kitty, kept following me around, meowing, wanting me to feed him , when he had food in his dish already. I feel like I did a shift at work last night. LOL!!

We contemplated a heavy bag too, Beth. But , yeah, no room. It's way too big. I wonder if you could get a small little bag and do that workout? Might be hard to reach up, maybe if you hung it low.

Ya, I think I will still meditate. I think I'm fighting off a cold. My nose is leaking and I've been sneezing like crazy. So that's probably why I felt wiped out yesterday.

I better get going, gotta get to the bank and a trip to Wally-world. Woohoo.

BBL!

Chris, I LOL at the vision of you and Jake screaming! Last night at midnight Ian appeared at my bedside asking me to sign his reading sheet. OK - that couldn't wait till the morning??? And, obviously, he should have been asleep long ago! GS Legs is tough! I always think it's over and she starts another exercise. Hope your cold doesn't hit too hard. Pop those vitamins and zinc!! I like that blurb you posted! ;) ;)

Beth, can you PM or post the sausage soup recipe? We used to get this sausage soup from Costco and DH loved it. He loves anything with sausage.

Kathy, that sounds like a good workout combination. I'd like to know how the heavy bag section is without a bag, too, since we don't have one.

Wow....OK....Ian wasn't lying. Long story, but I found out his "friend" posted the thing I was angry about on his FB page. He's been over at our house and him and Ian were on FB, so he knew Ian's password. He didn't intend for it to be mean, he was just trying to be funny. Ian was really upset that I didn't believe him and said I didn't trust him, but didn't want to get his friend in trouble by telling me the truth. I have to learn not to be so quick to judge, and, I guess, to trust him more. But, it seemed so illogical for someone else to have done it. More joys of parenting!

Workout today was Hiit 30/30 and back and biceps from CTX. Thank god it was short - that was tough!! I think I need to do it a few more times before moving on to one of the other HiiTs.

We made our reservations for New Orleans in March! I'm kind of excited! We're renting a big apartment that looks very cool - hotels were too expensive for six of us. I'm not excited about the 14 hour ride, but we'll probably break it up over two days.

Gotta run....

Joanne

Chris, I laughed out loud (quietly, at work!) about the bloody murder screaming -- we have played that scene in my bedroom! :D And, it almost happened last night..... I had been asleep and Dylan walks in to tell me he finished the second Harry Potter book. Joanne, like you, I wondered "and that couldn't wait til morning? And why are you staying up until 10:00 reading it?! :)

Sausage soup... this seems to have come around to me a couple of times, so some of you may have seen it:

2 pounds hot or mild Italian sausages (I use mild)
3 carrots (12 oz.), peeled and chopped
1 onion (12 oz.) chopped
4 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
3 quarts fat-skimmed chicken broth (I tend to use more)
2 cans (14 oz. each) diced tomatoes (I use Pomi)
2 cans (15 oz. each) cannellini (white) beans, rinsed & drained
1 T dried basil
2 C dried large shell-shaped pasta
4 quarts spinach leaves (about 12 oz.), rinsed (I sometimes leave out)
salt & pepper
grated parmesan

1. Squeeze sausages from casings (I usually buy it loose to avoid this)
into an 8- to 10-quart pan over high heat and stir often, breaking them
apart with a spoon, until browned and crumbly, 8 to 10 minutes. Spoon
out and discard all but 1 tablespoon fat from pan.

2. Add carrots, onion, and garlic; stir often until onion is limp,
5 to 7 minutes. Add broth, tomatoes (including juice), beans, and basil,
and bring to a boil.

3. Add pasta, reduce, heat, and simmer, covered, stirring occasionally,
until pasta is just tender to bite, about 10 minutes. Skim and discard
fat. Stir in spinach and cook just until it is wilted, about 30 seconds.
Add salt and pepper to taste. Offer parmesan cheese to add taste (I
never thought it needed it).

You can prepare soup through step 2 up to one day ahead, but do not bring
mixture to a boil; instead, cool, cover, and chill. To reheat, lift
off and discard fat; bring soup to a boil.

Makes about 5-1/2 quarts; 10 to 12 servings.

Note that portions of specific things are not all that critical, but don't go too heavy on the pasta. And, to be honest, I like it better without the spinach -- I prefer to have a salad with it.

That's awful about the fb story.... it is so hard when you don't trust them and find out later you were wrong! Yikes.

New Orleans -- wow! I've never been. That is a very long drive.....

Hi everyone..

I did my workout this morning before we headed to the Dentist...I really liked both workouts. The double wave HiiT is a toughie. I was huffing and puffing through that one. I would put it in between 30/30 and 40/20..There was no use of the step. I liked that. But, the drills she did were winding me. I also did the heavy bag boxing. I used my weighted gloves with it..I liked it. I don't know if it is better with the bag. But, it was easily doable without it. You just punch air..I think it is a good add on to another workout like I did or maybe the kickboxing one for a little extra..But, I did like adding it to cardio..

We have also made reservation to go to Disney in Florida next month. We are going Feb 9th and coming home the 16th...We bought a park hopper pass and we are going to rent a car and head down to Sarasota for the last half of the vacation...The kids are really excited about it too...Hope we get a good tax refund!!!

Chris: I was going to do butts & gutts this week too. I ended up choosing the gym styles. But, I think I may do it next week and find another upper body to do. I think there is premix on BM2 for upper body..That maybe an option..Sorry about your sleep. I am happy to report that I usually sleep like a log. Just ask Vic! HAHA

Beth: Yeah, no room for a heavy bag here either. But, it was fine without it! Sorry about your sleeping or lack there of last night..

Joanne: Sounds like a good vacation for your family. We thought about driving to Florida. But, Vic and I hate driving that far. So, we sucked it up and we are flying...Wow, on the FB thing. We don't have the kids on that yet. Lauren has her own email address and we worry enough about that!!

Ok, gotta get something for lunch before we head out to PE...Anyone going to download Cathe's first workout Step n motion? I want to if I can get it onto a DVD to use downstairs to workout with later...

Ok, this is the third time I'm trying to reply here! don't know why safari keeps barfing....

BM2 has that killer double upper body premix, Kathy, if you want to do that. Glad to know the heavy bag workout works without the bag. I guess I'll keep this short and actually post it!

Um...did you guys read my twitter/FB status? That'll tell you how my morning went. At work for a little bit before going home for a doc appointment...

Beth, thanks for the recipe - sounds like something DH would like - minus the spinach! ;)

Kathy, so Double Wave HiiT is tougher than 40/20? The Disney trip sounds great!! We went when Caitlyn was around three - I'd love to go again, but DH says it's a one-time thing! Caitlyn doesn't remember it at all. DH loves driving long distances - I hate it!! But, we'll probably leave in the evening and I'll sleep (along with the kids), stop somewhere and then I'll drive the next day. It's just too cost prohibitive for six of us to fly.

Hope Hottie is OK - I don't have her as a friend on FB yet, but it sounds like she's sick?

Oh, this day is draaggginngg! Want to go home now!

Joanne

Oh my goodness, Hottie!! So, you passed out after hitting your head? Hope you are OK - glad you are seeing the doctor.

Oh no Joanne I didn't mean it that way! I meant, since I had yet another night of not being able to sleep well and then not being able to catch any Zzs after I woke up (THANK YOU EVEE -- scaring that thunder was totally necessary), I brought myself to try and do Cardio Core to only find that when I went down on the mat I fell asleep! Cardio Core = cure for insomnia.

Hottie, oh, good! Glad it's not what I thought! That's the mom in me - always fearing the worst!! Wow, you must be tired to fall asleep during Cardio Core!

Hey Joanne: No, I would say that double pyramid Hiit is tougher than 30/30 but not as hard (but close) to 40/20...I enjoyed it though!!

Hottie: Hope you get some sleep tonight...

Doh! I never posted my workout! I was excited to tell you guys about it, too. I did one of the new Tracie Long ones..... Back Up. It was some weights with cardio factor, cardio with a small med ball, and then some floor work. I really liked it -- she was one of my favorite firm instructors, but since firm her stuff didn't appeal to me all that much, but this was a good one I think. I usually don't like the small med ball work, either, but it was good in this one. Hilarious that I completely forgot to tell you about it!

Chris, I was just thinking about your last 10 pound quote. It's so funny how I sometimes just don't care about it and other times I feel like it shouldn't be that hard and why can't I just do it?! Flip.... flop.....

Hey Guys...

It happened again! I did my meditation and it made me feel lousy after, really tired. I ended up drinking a cup of "rejuvinating" tea, and that definitely helped. MUCH better.

Joanne: (and Beth!).. funny how our kids did the same things to us at night. I picture the scene from ET, you know how when Drew Barrymore sees ET in the closet with her stuffed animals? LOL!... Wow, that's crazy about Ian and FB being true. I mean, it's so hard to believe ANYONE when they say, "My friend did it". It's always "my friend" did it. It's the CLASSIC "lie"! The HiiT's ARE tough. But short is such a good thing with those! Sooo jealous of your New Orleans trip (and your Disney trip, Kathy!). I'm not sure what we'll do for vacation this year. The paycut is going to kick in soon and I'm so nervous as to how it will impact us. I guess I can live vicariously through you guys!

Kathy: thanks for the review on the heavy bag workout. Definitely will try that one. I do love to punch :). Tomorrow is MMA: Boxing for me! YAY! Hey, maybe I'll add it on.....

Hottie: OMG, I can't believe you feel asleep! You must be sooo tired!! Though I have to admit, i think I could have napped during the stretch after GS Legs. I got REALLY sleepy and I kept yawning.

Beth: I was wondering about your workout today! LOL!... Nice you got a good new one in. I never did the firms, but I have heard of Tracie Long before. Ya know, I kept thinking about that quote. And I think the key to it is "combined with exercise and eating right". I guess eating take-out and sugar on the weekends isn't considered "eating right" . But sometimes I am just really comfortable with what I am, and other times (when I see my fat ass in the mirror or pictures), I'm not. But I do know when I eat right I do feel SO much better, all around.

time for homework! Yippeee!
