Itchy dogger?

Vlad seems to have gotten a bad case of the itchies over the past couple days. He's had a bath. We don't see any bugs, bumps, red spots, dry spots. He seems to be itching his sides and his neck and chest. He's also more sensitive to the doggy "itchy spot" that makes his leg go thump-thump, now that seems to be anywhere, not just on his belly for our amusement. With the weather changing, I'm wondering if its just allergies? Spyro would get in the same way in Spring and Fall, with no reason as well except for allergeries, and it would pass in a 2 or 3 weeks. Wondering if its the same thing? Worth a trip to the vet?

Definitely could be allergies. Is he licking or chewing his paws at all? That's always a sign with my doggies that allergies are bothering them. Heightened sensitivity in the "itchy spot" under their chins is another indicator.

It might be worth a trip to the vet if he really seems to be suffering - some dogs get so itchy they scrach all the time, sometimes injuring themselves in the process. If it's just mild scratching and he seems otherwise OK (no behavior changes or all-night itchy freakouts), you could probably just keep an eye on him and see if it passes.

My dogs' allergies always start this way and lead to skin infections - little bumps and lesions on their skin. We've tried a variety of measures and nothing really works (for us) except a course of antibiotics to help them overcome the infections. So frustrating! But there are doggie antihistamines that might prove effective for Vlad, if he really is having an allergy attack.

It could be dry skin, too. Did you change what you bathe him with. It might not necessarily show up as bumps or anything.

Can't recall the name of the doggie soap, but its oatmeal vanilla something or another. To prevent dry skin. Same one we always use. It seems to be worse after being outside, so I do really wonder if its something in the air or the grass. Its like he gets the itchies for a few mins, and then once he's back inside for awhile, it seems to die down. Then he goes out again, and comes back in and starts with the scratching. I really do think its seasonal, but I will keep a close eye on him, I don't want him scratching til he's red or bald.

My dog has sensitive skin also. I just started using Aveeno Skin Relief wash, and giving him Brewers Yeast chewables from Petsmart.

Your dog may have food allergies so he may need to go to the vet. Petsmart and Petco sell all natural dog food.
