For those of you that have done either of these courses...do you think it would be worth taking one of them for personal benefits?

Hi, Smiley2! I got certified thru ACE as a group fitness instructor back in Feb. 1997 and I must say that, even if I had not gotten certified to get hired as an instructor, I still would have valued the study materials and process for my own knowledge. I still have the textbooks for the group fitness instructor manual AND the personal trainer manual, and I find myself referring back to the chapters on anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics and applied kinesiology, nutrition, health concerns and special populations etc., on a regular basis. The more I instruct and the more I work out in ever more various modes, the more sense it all makes to me!

Just my plug to go ahead and get the core texts for your own use!

Thanks Aquajock for your fast reply...I was hoping you would comment about this.I always like to read what you have to say!

Smiley2-

I was looking in the Washington Post Health section yesterday and they had an article about different kinds of fitness certification. I immediately thought of this thread. If you like, I can send you the article through snail mail (if my husband hasn't thrown the papers in the recycle bin yet!).

If he has, you can probably find the article on
washingtonpost.com in the health section.

Anyway, let me know if you'd like me to clip it and send it to you. My email address is [email protected]
