Is this an insanely stupid question, or remarkably brilliant?

I think so, too. At least in the case of Suave's Cocoa Butter with Shea lotion. It smells like coconut and vanilla and makes me think of yummy things I wish I were eating.

These days, I stick with floral scents:confused:!

See, I think it smells like cocoa crispies. In fact, I used cocoa butter on my belly when I was pregnant with my first child, and I constantly craved cocoa crispies. I had to stop using the stuff.

I've used cocoa butter lotion in the past. It smells good enough to eat! I never thought of coconut though. I always thought it smelled like chocolate. YUM! :)

I think that it smells like chocolate. Which cocoa butter are you using? Palmers smells just like chocolate.

Maybe it's just the product you're using - that it's mixed with something else. Pure cocoa butter has it's own distinct smell - I don't think it even smells like chocolate, although it's definitely more that than coconut.

I don't think it smells like coconut, either, but it does have a distinct sweet odor to it. (Now, the raw, unprocessed coconut oil/butter I use as a moisturizer really smells like coconut...and it tastes good, too!)

the official answer, from a reliable source

Cocoa butter is a fat extracted from the cacao (cocoa) bean, the same bean that is used to make chocolate. Pure cocoa butter should have a faint chocolaty smell, but when it's used in creams and soaps, the chocolate aroma is often removed, and other natural and artificial fragrances may be added.

Cocoa butter and coconut oil are frequent travelling companions in cosmetic products, which may explain the coconutty smell of cocoa butter.
