Is the Dyson Animal worth the $$?

I am to the point where I want to throw my vacumn out the window. It's a standard Dirt Devil. We have a dog and cat who shed alot. The wheels of my vacumn seem to just push the hair back and forth in clumps and it takes forever just to do one room. Any input would be a life saver.

I only hear good things about the Dyson, but at the moment I can't afford one. Kohl's had a sale recently where they had the Dyson's for 30% less with a coupon. Since I don't have Kohl's nearby I'm thinking other stores will take notice and have similar offers soon since our third vacuum in two years doesn't function like it used to anymore. I said that this time around I'm getting a Dyson, but I'm just waiting for an offer like the one at Kohl's.

I want one sooooo bad...but cannot even begin to see my cheap self spending so much. I think I am going to try the Dirt Devil Diane said above. If you do get one, report back and let us know how it works!!!

I LOVE mine!!!!! We are on our second one, only because the movers either lost or swiped our first one on our cross country move. I have 3 hairy labs, and I have to tell you, I have never had a vacuum work so well for so long. You would not believe how many times I have to empty the canister when I do the house. That is a good thing.....it picks up everything!!! And no more sneezing when I vacuum....the filters workd great! I do not think I would ever buy anything else.

Here's an exerpt from Consumer Reports Website. These are models that they think are less expensive and work better than a Dyson.

CR's quick take

We can point you toward less expensive upright models that worked better overall than the DC14. They include the Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Ultra U6439-900, $300; Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870, $140, a CR Best Buy; and Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 34922, $300. The Hoover WindTunnel Bagless U5753-900, $200, is also a very good performer.

It took me a long time to get to the point that I could part with all that money - but it was totally worth it, I LOVE my Dyson.
