Is one Cathe workout per day REALLY enough ?

Bernard

Cathlete
To gain results ?

As you all know I want to lose weight, and reduce my body size, can I really do that by eating clean, and doing just one Cathe wrokout per day, with one rest day ?

You can tell I am on a TTOTM downer x( BIG TIME x(

I am aiming to do what Cathe has recommended for weight loss, which is 4 days of cardio, 2 days of weights, and 1 day off.

Can I really lose weight doing this ?

My no-sugar thing is going well today :D - one positive thing at least.

My brain though wants me to do more workout time per day, but does too much result in no results ?? I tried that before Christmas, and lost nothing, I just maintained.

Well, a nice good kick up my back side would be nice ? Anyone willing ? :D

Thanks

Anna :(

H Anna,
There a lots of educated people on this board. I'm not one of them but I do have a little experience.
Yes you will see results on the rotation you mentioned. The Firm once mentioned that doing exercise doesnt' give you the license to eat all you want. I don't know what the scientific percentage that diet fits into the equation but it is a big one.
It takes the two together. Diet: What you eat, how much and exercise.

Your metabolism has something to do with how much weight you will lose. Due to an operation, I went through the change of life early. That definately slowed my body's way of burning fuel way down. So I had to up my cardio on that account + my lupus.

What was your diet like before Christmas? Did you have lots of starches and sugery things?
I've been on lots of diets over the years, but I never seriously watched the starches and sugar until I read Cathe's diet this year.
That has made a world of difference for me.
Plus upping the Intesity by doing Imax or Imax 2 each week. How's that for a good kick. LOL

ps: I think you are doing a great job with your exercise program.:D

Thankyou so much Wanda, your posting was just what I needed :7 . I feel happier now within myself, that maybe this time I might just succeed. I am going back to my earlier nights to bed too, which is what I was doing beforehand, I felt better for it too.

And yes, I think you are right, there is too much sugar in my diet, which is why I too am joining Lori on the no sugar rule. I think sugar definitely affects mood, it certainly has over the past PMS week.

I am currently awaiting a book called, Bodywise, by John Briffa - apparantly it is a very good read :)

Thankyou so much Wanda, I shall continue with that rotation, and let you know of my results :)

Hi Anna

Maybe it's because I have a little baby at home, a busy career to manage, a household to run and a husband, family and friends to love and enjoy, but I could never imagine working out to Cathe for more than one hour a day (with one rest day, of course.) I think Cathe is very aware of time restraints and packs quite a punch in each of her workouts.

To me, it's about staying consistent and focused. In time you'll reach your goals and you certainly don't have to spend two hours exercising to do it. I'm always a little afraid when people say that they do Imax 2 and Muscle Endurance in one day. Oy, that's just too much!

With that said, I have noticed a huge change in my results by REALLY giving each workout my all. Jump higher, lift heavier and pour yourself into each and every minute of the workout and you'll see results. Mental assistance really does work! I have gotten great results with my daily one hour dose of Cathe workouts and I truly believe doing more is overkill and takes the joy right out of it.

Just my humble opinion...take it or leave it, right?

RE: Hi Anna

I definitely think that one Cathe workout a day (with one or two days off a week) is enough. In fact, if you do a Cathe workout every single day with no days off, I'd think you'd risk overtraining (espcially since many of her workouts focus on step aerobics).

What would your alternative be? TWO Cathe workouts a day? Seems like overkill. What you could do is take some of your daily Cathe workouts and split them up so that you're working twice a day. This would work well for Body Max, for example.

Remember, push yourself, but also be gentle to yourself, and you'll start seeing some good results.

I for one think that how HARD you workout is more important than how LONG you workout. For instance, I can do Imax and then do PS BBA in the same day, back to back. But then I go a little easy on Imax because I know I have heavy lifting to do afterwards. I also tend to go lighter on my weight because Imax has exhausted me. BUT if I do Imax one day I can give it my all and even extend some intervals. Then the next day I can lift much heavier with PS and give that my all as well. Just my opinion, but it works better this way for me.

Hi Anna!

I'm feeling about the same as you - is one workout per day enough? For the last few months I have been gaining inches not pounds though, and my mood just really sucks most of the time. ;( I feel down in the dumps quite often and can't seem to stay on track with any exercise plan. I go for about a week and then I start slacking off. I don't work out like I used to and think that maybe I need to increase my workout minutes by possibly adding in 20 minutes of cardio in the A.M. Believe me I have many ideas running through my head but can't seem to put any into effect. Everything always looks good on paper!

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I keep thinking that maybe I should do one of the Intensity rotations but I can't seem to get going with either of them.

ANGIE,
(SORRY, WRITING IN CAPITALS SO I CAN READ MY POST !!!!!)
YOU DON'T THINK YOUR MOOD IS LIGHT RELATED, DO YOU ? YOU KNOW WHEN THERE IS A LACK OF DAYLIGHT IN THE WINTER MONTHS ? IT IS JUST THAT YOU MENTIONED YOU HAVE FELT LIKE THAT IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. MY MOTHER USED TO TELL ME I ALWAYS SLUMPED IN OCTOBER AND PICKED UP AGAIN IN MARCH (STOP ! THIS LOOKS LIKE A TELEGRAPH !)- I HAD VERY LITTLE ENTHUSIASM.

I WAS OK BEFORE CHRISTMAS, BUT JANUARY FOR ME HAS BEEN A BAD OLD MONTH
x( x( x( x(

I AM NOW LOOKING TOWARDS FEBRUARY (SATURDAY HERE I COME STOP) - A NEW MONTH, A NEW START :D

I ALSO BEAT MYSELF UP ABOUT REACHING MY WORKOUT GOAL OF 6 DAYS A WEEK WHICH IDEALLY I WOULD PREFER, AND I HAVE TO REMIND MYSELF THAT EVEN IF I ONLY MANAGE 4 - 5 DAYS A WEEK, ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.

I AM SORRY I CAN'T BE MUCH HELP, I HAVE TERRIBLE DEMONS TO CONTEND WITH LIKE MY CHRONIC PMS }( x( }( x( }(

SENDING YOU HUGS <<<<<<HUGS>>>>>> AND SMILES :) :) :) :)

IT WILL SOON BE SPRING !! HANG IN THERE !!!!!

ANNA :D

I used to go to the gym every day for 2+ hours (that was BK - before kids). Now I just do one of Cathe's tapes about 6 days a week. I can honestly say I am getting much better results doing Cathe's workouts. By the way, I was going to ask the educated crowd why this is so??

I'd say you were probably overtraining before, which tends to put your body in a state of not wanting to change. You also probably didn't get enough rest to allow muscle growth and strength increases.

YES you definetely get results with one work out a day. Clean eating is huge. Excercise without clean eating will have moderate results. I know its not what you want to hear but true.

I have LOTS of time - not working now - and kids are at school til 3. I started (lost my job at the beginning of the month) with 2 workouts a day but found it didnt make a huge difference so now I'm spending the time - reading, relaxing, talking to friends and I'm getting really good results.

Perhaps you need a new rotation? That's always great for shaking things up

Anna..
Like you I also am concerned about weight loss. I do one Cathe tape per day, usually 5 days per week. The other day(s) I will rollerblade or bike usually. What I have started doing is adding in some "mini" workouts. I am trying to be extremely careful about overtraining or losing muscle mass so I am adding in, say, an extra 30 min. cardio every other day. Yesterday for instance, I did 10-10-10 with the drills in CK and then went hiking for 30-45 min in the evening RIGHT after work. I find that I didn't lose all that much time and I really made myself go pretty slow, as to not overtrain. The idea is to burn a few extra calories, but make only one of the daily workouts the "cardio training" workout. I will go all out for Cathe cardio and then meander along in the evening, see?? I think this helps prevent burnout. Also, I have been convincing the DH to walk to dinner on the weekends, like if we go out to eat. That is extra activity, but not necessarily extra "cardio"...something to think about...

Hi Anna - Sorry to hear that you are feeling down. I know what you mean about the sunlight thing. Hate it when its all gloomy! As far as weight loss goes the worst part about it is how slow and gradual it can be. It can really taste your patience. I think 6 Cathe workouts with sensible eating is more than enough to give you results. It may take time but it will come eventually with persistance and dedication. Hang in there and don't let temporary setbacks get you down. Unfortunately you can't rush the process and drastic measures don't work.

I find that I get the best results with moderate exercise and moderate eating. Don't forget that you are working very hard and very intensely with Cathe - far more than the average individual. That being said, I do try and keep active during the day in addition to my Cathe workouts. I throw in walks whenever I can - lunchtime, after supper etc. I also do yoga, pilates or swim in summer instead of watching TV. All these little bursts of moderate activity have been a huge help to me. Also don't be afraid to analyse your current diet/ exercise habits and tweak them. For e.g I look a lot leaner when doing rotations with total body workouts. I have also found that I lose a lot when I lighten my eating in the evenings. Hope this helps. Congratulations on kicking sugar - very tough, but well worth it!

Anna,
The others are right, diet is a major factor (unfortunately). If only a step workout would mean you could eat ice cream and french fries! Whether I workout 5x's a week (I'm small-boned and my muscles feel too 'tight' if I workout more than that) or 3xs, I don't see a huge difference because I eat a lot of junk food. I'm 100% sure I don't see great results because my diet is nowhere near clean.

If you really want to give it a go at losing weight, I think you should focus on your diet. It seems like you have the exercise thing under control which is great. Be sure to get at least one day of rest a week- Cathe's videos are pretty intense and I'm sure she'll agree rest is just as important. Too much exercise can be detrimental.

Keep a positive attitude and don't give up- it can take over a month to see results, but you will see them!

Anna, in one word, YES. Incorporating 4 cardios and 2 strength sessions weekly is exactly what I'm doing (but I vary my rotations to mix it up, but still try for at least 3-5 cardio sessions weekly) and I've finally lost most of the last of that fat I wanted to.

I workout mainly 4-6 times weekly (averaging about 5x, striving for 6), and I have been able to see incredible results with the Intensity series already, and I'm into my 3rd week (almost my 4th).

I've noticed for me, that Circuit style training works best, i.e. Bootcamp, Cardio and Weights, BodyMax, etc. Throwing in a couple of Muscular Endurance tapes on occasion such as Power Hour or Muscle Endurance really makes my muscles sore - I really prefer cardio strongly over strenth, which means I need more strength.

I agree that eating is over 70% of the battle. But you know what? I've been doing this (exercising with vids) for about 3-4 years, and I've learned I can eat cleanly during the day and have some ice cream at night - that's not a recommendation, just a notation that my metabolism has increased. I still have a little fat in the saddlebag and thigh region (and core), but I'm not stressing the small stuff anymore and enjoying it (how can you not with Cathe's tapes - or DVD's?)

It's totally possible and probable to achieve an incredible physique, and more importantly, increase endurance and strength and ward off those bad diseases. I'm really happy with the results I've achieved so far just with this series - even dedicating a photo album to chart progress just for motivation (hey, whatever works, right?) :)

I worked out for years at the gym and didn't get the results I've been getting with Cathe vids. Everyone is different, and mixing it up is probably optimum, but using Cathe and maybe some other tapes that you enjoy (if that's what you like to do) will get you to your goals, it just takes some time and like others said, cleaner eating.

Good luck to you!

Kris

I agree that eating right is a huge part of the solution, and as far as one Cathe workout per day, it certainly should be sufficient.

I have read your posts for a long time now, and you seem to be uncertain about what to do. Consistancy is VERY important - be consistant with your workouts, and plan what you're going to do. For instance, map out 4 weeks to do only the CTX series, then chart your progress. Really pay attention to your form, also.

Keep a food journal if you're not already doing it.

So, to put it in a nutshell - Plan, carry out your plan, and chart your progress.

Just Do It! :)

Thankyou so much everyone :7 You can't imagine how much you have helped me with all your replies :) They have lifted me out of a very DEEP ditch (and it is February tomorrow :7 so things are looking up).

The food journal is always up to date, even through my disgustingly horrible PMS days, where I can eat for Britain. But Honeybunch has hit the nail on the head, my workouts were pretty consistent before Christmas, and I was toning up fantastically (even if there was no weight loss), but through Christmas and January, I have just gone down hill in a complete state of misery-ness, though hopefully that will change through February. There is an interesting fact that the depression (and suicide) rates are at their highest in January, and this really does not surprise me.

The CTX series was begun (again !) last night, and I really felt good last night. Tonight, it is Kickbox :) ! So, I feel like I am getting on track, and I was going to plan it out for a week, but I will go with the 4 week plan. After all I am not going to see a result in a week, am I ?

THANKYOU !!!!!!!!!!!!
I shall keep you posted !!!!!!!!

Anna
