Is it safe to book with United Airlines???

So I'm trying to arrange my flights for the Cathe Road Trip... and the best flight times seem to be with United Airlines. However, I know they've been having some... er... labor disputes recently. Do you think it's safe to book on United? What are the chances they'll go belly-up before July, if the various unions do go on strike? Anyone else planning to fly United?

My other choice is American, but the flight schedule really stinks. x(

Emily,

I am flying American but I am leaving on Thurday. What time are you wanting to leave? I thought I would have some extra time to do other things while I am there. My birthday(July 13) gift from DH. I am flying back on Monday too. I was told not to fly United. Sorry I am not much help.:)

United is safe, or at least as safe as any other US airline, most of which are in Chapter 11 or coming out of it. US Airways is the one that is teetering on the brink, according to the aviation business experts.

I guess I'm just worried that all the United employees will go on strike and all their flights will get canceled. I'm not aware of any other airlines negotiating labor contracts right now. The labor situation is what worries me the most.

Sabrina, I would like to leave Friday am, around 9-ish, and arrive in Philly around 1pm. A few weeks ago, American had a flight schedule that allowed me to do this - but I can't seem to find those same flights anymore. Now I'd have to leave at 6:15am and arrive in Philly at 11 am. I really don't want to depart so early. Their return flights on Sunday are really pathetic too. You are lucky to be able to leave early and stay late, so you have more flexibility in your travel times. My other option is to fly out of O'Hare, but I don't really want to drive up there and back (or take the Peoria Charter Coach). Guess I'll just have to do more research...

I fly almost exclusively with United. In fact, I am flying on United for the Cathe road trip as well. If anything happens, other airlines will most likely honor your tickets. However, to be on the safe side, you can always get paper tickets instead of the electronic ones. Other airlines are more prone to honor paper tickets instead of the electronic ones...

Hope this helps.
