Is It Okay to Work Out Daily If You Don't Feel Overtrained?

Cathe,
I know rest is important, but I'm the type of individual that doesn't take a day off unless I'm forced to by sickness. I also take 5 days off twice a year when we go on vacation. Am I defeating my purpose of trying to get in the best possible shape by not resting 1 day a week? Truthfully, mentally, I really need to workout. I tend to be a depressed person and exercise helps me overcome the symptoms. I'd love your opninion. I know I need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of overtraining and I am.

Hi Lorajc! I always like to suggest at least one day off, but if that doesn't work for you, try to make one to two of those days light workout days. Better yet, try a stretch or mind body workout. They are great stress relievers too.

A reminder of overtraining....you'll feel lethargic, unmotivated, snappy, depressed even on happy occasions, physically and emotionally exhausted, cry easily, get sick easily, get injured easily, have trouble sleeping, over or under eat, just to name a few.

If suddenly one day you start to notice these signs, take the day off, drink extra water, eat well, take vitamins and pamper yourself with healthy options (hydrating facial, visit to health food store, etc.). That way you won't feel guilty about not actually working out that day.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for answering. I'm so excited about the new Advanced series and preordered today! Congrats on your new endeavor.

Also, Re: the above - I always do a "non-Cathe" workout on the day that's supposed to be my rest day when I work out. I guess that would qualify as a "lighter day". Thanks again.
