Cathlete
Hi all,

I am sitting at my computer trying to finish a project I have been putting off and that can't be put off any longer. I'm creating a distance education French course for the university I work for. I did the A class over the summer for the fall and now I need to finish the B class to be offered this spring. Anyway, it's a great opportunity, they pay a nice amount to develop it (and for the students that take it) but for some reason I have totally lost my mojo! I'm almost done, the end is in sight, and apparantly I'd rather whine than just finish the ?#$&^&^ thing! What is my problem??? I am honestly a total sloth at the moment!

BTW, I'm going to Germany on Thurs. to visit my big sis. I'll be gone for almost 3 weeks, so this just has to get done, like now! Actually, like yesterday! Do any of you have this problem this bad??? Please tell me I'm not alone!

Amy

p.s. Does anyone want to finish this for me??? :p :p :p Yes Kathryn, I'm thinking of yoU!

I'm too anal to be a procrastinator, but let me introduce you to my husband....

PS: I love that you are procrastinating by posting on the Cathe board that you need help with your procrastinating! :p

Pixie:

You have to disguise your procrastination more creatively: when I was supposed to be studing for the bar exam back in the day, I painted all the kitchen cabinets - inside and out. Beautiful, perfect job. Thus, I had accomplished something! Just not the task immediately at hand. But it will wear thin and you will find yourself knuckling under and getting it done. Remember how good it feels to JUST DO IT. (Nike was genius for that phrase...)

Yeah, that's kind of the most absurd part about it...I clearly have some issues to deal with!

You are so right Charlotte, this is a terrible disguise! It would feel good to actually accomplish something...but I have parked my butt here and I don't plan to leave until I'm done. Will I ever leave? Scary question.

But it will wear thin
>and you will find yourself knuckling under and getting it

Oh and how! I must really like torturing myself! I have finally gotten started a little, so we'll see. ARRGGGHHH

Yah, thats me to a BIG fault! I would have answered this post earlier but I put it off, LOL. I think I get a rush from trying to get things done at the last minute, I have to say I am really good under pressure so perhaps I create that pressure subconsciously

I used to be, but then I realized the anxiety about not completing a task was far worse than the actual act of completion. :) Also, my SO is a terrible procrastinator (we have a running joke right now because two months ago he bought a book about dealing with procrastination and he has yet to open it), and living with his procrastination makes me crazy!

Marie

You people are too funny! Well, whining about procrastinating seemed to do the trick. I'm finished!!! (It really wasn't much more work, but I just didn't feel like it). Hooray! The procrastinator triumphs again! }( }( }(

Amy

I'm ROFL at Marie's husband!!! That is too funny.

I also have problems with procrastination. It seems to be all about my emotions. If I'm working on something high-profile, then I finish it in half an hour so I can get lots of compliments on completing it so fast. If it's something that no one is noticing or asking about, it can languish for months. Also, if I've really enjoyed working on a project, sometimes I will do 99.9% of it, and then procrastinate on finishing it up because of separation anxiety. x(

So, yes, you have company!

I have often thought that there is something seriously wrong with me because I procrastinate to the point of near crisis. When I pull it off in the end I get a rush from the frenetic work and then pat myself on the back for pulling it off!

I can be very much a procrastinator.
I had the entire summer to do class prep for the fall, and I ended up doing it in the last 2 weeks of my time off!

I have been invited to give a 3 1/2-hour workshop in Colorado in February, and I'm trying to gear myself up to prep it during Christmas vacation (the woman who invited me attended a 70-minute session on the same subject...how in the world she would think I could make it into 3 1/2 hours, I don't know, but I can get double the amount of time by just going into things in more depth and taking more time with them...that leaves another hour's worth of stuff to prep!).

You couldn't afford the commission I'd charge!

Yes Amy, I agree with Charlotte that you definitely have to be more creative and productive with your procrastination technique! I've managed to procrastinate finishing my doctoral dissertation by getting pregnant three times.

I have a terrible time with procrastinating. In fact, my last name is Rastin (true), and my slogan is that I like to put the Rastin in procRastination.

Marie - out of curiosity, open up that procrastination book and see if there's anything written on the pages :D

"I've managed to procrastinate finishing my doctoral dissertation by getting pregnant three times."

Wait a minute! THREE times?

I'm procrastinating NOW! I shouldn't be looking at this sight...I should be editing a document. Oh, well, maybe later.

;-)

Yup. And believe it or not, it's a time consuming job ;)

I have a 6 year old DD and the newest 14mth old member.

The second pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 12 weeks, so between dealing with a whole trimester of nausea and fatigue, then having to recuperate emotionally from the loss, I managed to get very little work done for about 5 months. I don't recommend this as a way of procrastinating, but it's very effective. Nobody dares to put any pressure on you :)

Cheers,
Sandra

LMAO!!!! Dear heavens, NOOOOO!!! No need to apologize, Wildgirl. If I didn't want to talk about it, I shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place. It was a long time ago, and I eventually got my beautiful second baby.

Now look at me procrastinating again. I just finished PlyoX and am a ball of sweat. Time to go clean up.

Playing with my Cathe friends is my favourite way to procrastinate. You all are addictive.

Sandra

Seeings that I need to be cleaning my house for my parents coming at the end of next week, and I am playing on the computer and seriously considering a nap, I'd say, "yes, I am a horrible procrastinator!!!"
