Iris! (sorry, long!)

Cathlete
Hey there. Was just thinking of you and wondering when your re-surgery was planned. Wishing you all the best this time around. I know, TRUST ME, how eager you are to get back to your Cathe's!

Thanks for asking about me. I didn't want to tie up Trevor's thread with "me" problems. I am still the same...still dealing with my injury. Not real sure what I did. Just woke up one AM and my leg hurt behind my left knee. When it didn't go away after a few weeks, I went to a sports orthopaedic doctor and he ran X-rays that showed NOTHING, other then my cartilage and bones looked great??? He told me he thought I had just pulled a hamstring muscle as the ham muscle runs down behind the knee. He said give it about 6 weeks to heal by taking an anti-inflammatory and call back if it wasn't better. I only waited 4 weeks and called back to say it was not better and could he order an MRI? He ordered one for about a week later. I went last Friday for it. I then called his office TWICE this week to find out the results or if there was something I could be doing to make it heal in the meantime since my follow-up appointment wasn't until ten days later. Looong story short (too late, I know! ;-)) he will not return my phone calls. I guess I will just have to wait til I see him this coming Tuesday. I am starting to feel defeated a bit because I cannot do my normal Hi/Lo classes and of course, my Cathe tapes. I am a bit stressed inside thinking I may have to have surgery for a torn meniscus or a loose object such as cartilage. (my own diagnosis) Just trying to figure out what I will do with my students for a couple/few months if that happens. Sorry for whining. Thanks for asking. It helps to come to this place and talk to you all. Again, wishing you the VERY BEST this time and hope you are up and jumping around very soon. HUGS to you!

Hi Iris and Debbie:
Pardon me , I just read your post and wanted you to know that I am sending warm thoughts and prayers your way. My heart goes out to you that you are living with pain that prevents you from doing the things that you want and need to do. I wish you both well.

Thank you Laurie for your kind wishes.

Debbie, I totally understand your pain and discomfort. I do have a torn meniscus and a very bad case of tendonitis - trust me I know it hurts. I'm really surprised you haven't received your results of the MRI - I had mine in two days, but then I'm in NYC and we want everything yesterday - LOL! I hope it's nothing serious and you and I can both return to do our Cathe's and eveything else us "young" 50-something healthy (grandma's)women do everyday!! BTW - how the grandbaby? Hugs to you sweet Debbie - Laurie - Hugs to to you too!

Take care,

Iris

Iris!

Iris, THANK YOU sooo much for referring to me as a young healthy grandma. You cannot believe how many people have said to me over the past couple months, "Well, you ARE getting older!" It is rather frustrating. This is the FIRST real injury (other then a broken toe) that I have had in doing what I do (& LOVE) for over 23 years! I guess it is a wake-up call that we need to be careful, but I just wish I KNEW what exactly I did! Ha!

Kennedy is 2 1/2 now and as of about a week ago, is potty-trained! Yeah! Not sure you know, but we are expecting a sister or brother for her the first of July and can hardly wait. Thank you for asking and I truly hope you heal very fast from your surgery. If you get a moment, could you let me know what symptoms you experienced with your torn meniscus? Thanks and take care.

Debbie and Iris!

I'm wishing you both well! I hope you both feel better very soon.

Debbie! That's so great Kennedy was potty trained at 2 1/2. My son wasn't officially trained until just after turning 3 years old. I heard girls are easier than boys. :p

Don't listen to all those people saying you're getting older. They have no idea what they're talking about. :)

RE: Iris!

Debbie - me too! (and yes I remembered your post about the new baby) We're expecting baby #2 for my daughter Jocelyn in July! Talk about kindered spirits - how cool - we'll celebrate together!!

I'm in the same boat as you - I am young at heart and those who know me best tell me all the time that I don't "look" my age - whatever that means and I miss not being as active as I was. As for my symptoms, I'll try to explain as best as I can - here goes.. Before my first procedure in October, I had like a pulling/tearing sensation on the medial area of my right knee. I thought I was over training and rested, iced it, etc. I was like that for a long time - about two years or so. September of last year the pain was increasing, especially when sitting and then getting up - ouch - seemed my entire knee became stiff causing me to limp. I never had pain in the joint of the knee, it was always below. Now I continue to have this pulling/tearing pain (imagine if you would - a stretched rubberband - pulling on either side)combined with joint pain. I thought that something was wrong with my shins because the pain is throughout the entire leg - not just the knee. The second MRI taken in November indicated that the meniscus was torn and that the tendons/ligaments were inflammed. Sitting down for a long period of time is not good for this condition because the joints stiffen and are very painful. Resting on my back with stretched leg - no way - can not do it - the pain is too much. When I walk and I do in NYC my entire leg becomes enflamed and fatigued. So you see dear, anyway I try to get comfortable - just doesn't happen. I have been doing mat pilates along with some upper body work, but lately regardless of what I'm doing I feel it on my darn right knee. I have been on every kind of anti inflammatory, vitamin, you name it - pain will not go away. I'm praying that this pain will finally go away and I will be able to return to a pain free norma life. Debbie - what are you experiencing? Hope you feel better soon!! Hugs to you!!

Take care,

Iris

RE: Iris!

Iris! We will definitely celebrate being Grannies for a second time in July! Woo-Hooo! Thanks so much for taking the time to post all the symptoms. Unfortunately, they sound just like what I have had/am experiencing. I no longer have the severe pain when I straighten my leg like I did in the beginning so I am hoping and PRAYING it is healing? The one thing I did find on the Internet, (scary doing research on the net!)is that if you do tear your meniscus, surgery is neccesary as there is no blood flow to that area for healing. Yikes! Also, walking does not bother/hurt me. Impact does bother me if I put weight on my left leg. Sometimes, I have a limp but it doesn't hurt usually. I will keep you posted and again, glad your sugery will be soon so you can get back to what we lOVE to do. Wishing you the speediest recovery!
