involuntary rest period

Well, I haven't taken a real rest period from working out in well over a year. So this week, I got a stomach bug, and haven't done a real workout (besides a short walk with the dogs) in days. It feels so weird... and like there's this void in my life!! I'm wondering how my body's going to respond to this rest period, which will end up being almost a week long. For those of you who have voluntarily taken a week off, how did your body react? Curious.

Delfin, I could have written your exact post myself. DH got sent to the dugout with a tummy bug last Saturday and spent Saturday night in the salaam position in the bathroom. Precisely 48 hours later I was in the exact same way. Had to skip working out altogether all week because I was so depleted from woofing and other things (TMI), AND because I was at first repulsed by food / fluids, then indifferent, then only by Thursday did I have the glimmerings of an appetite back.

I felt awful all week long, in large part because I couldn't work out. I hate not working out, voluntarily or not; I always feel physically sluggish and overtired, my appetite gets all whacked, and emotionally I feel despondent and distracted.

At least I got the rest week that everyone says is so good for me out of the way.

Hope you feel better! Get back in the game, kid!

I also could have written your post. Have been off for 5 days now...Dr wants me to rest another 4-5. Yeah, okay Doctor. Anyway, it really sucks. I feel like I am losing so much definition in my muscles that I have been working so hard to achieve the past few weeks, on my new rotation. But, I deal w/ it by putting things into perspective: "it could be so much worse". That is how I get by. Hope you feel better soon. Do you have that awful respiratory flu that is creeping up everywhere??? Gosh it is awful. This is probably the sickest I can ever remember being in my adult life.

I took an involuntary rest period at the end of August last year. I think it was a total of 10 days. My aunt passed away and we were at her house every day trying to clear it out and get ready for a massive garage sale. Although I didn't like not working out (yes it felt like a huge void) I came back stronger. It made me appreciate exercise all the more. Trust me, you will come back stronger than ever before.

Get some rest. You'll be back better than ever!!!

I was wondering how anyone exercises consistently in the winter. (I am in New York). Last week I had a cough that was deemed "viral". Then my son got Chickenpox (yes he was vaccinated..no that doesn't matter anymore) Then I got the flu. I am 2 weeks out and can't wait to start again. I had put in 4 good weeks of exercise and now this.

I totally understand. In the winter, even if I manage to stay healthy most of the time, my kids bring various viruses from school. Even if I don't catch it from them, I can't work out because I'm usually up all night with them, and too tired to work out for at least a few days.

I see I'm not alone!~

No workout since Monday due to my back going out !

I hate it and feel sluggish and bored from so much "resting" .
I see an orthopedic dr. on Tuesday and hope to find out what is going on. (this has happened before) I DO finally feel better today but won't work out until I get the doctors okay.
I really was in some considerable pain and don't want to risk reinjury.

I hope all those who have been sick feel better soon !

Sending mega healing vibes to everyone who's been sick (or had family members ill)! Please be sure to rest up thoroughly so you're not vulnerable to another bug. I've known 3 people who've come down with pneumonia since December, including my 83 year old mother who had to be hospitalized. Take care one and all!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.
