Interval Max support group

Okay, once a week, every week, I'm lying in bed and trying to convince myself that I will be able to get through Imax without modifying today, and it doesn't happen! :(
And let me be clear, I'm not saying that I only modify here or there, but it's like "all the even intervals!"
It starts with the 2nd interval (plyo jacks interval), I get through about half, and sometimes I'm so winded, I can't even remember what the he** the modification is so I just make something up to keep my feet moving!
Then comes the one with the 2 feet take off (NOT an easy task at 193lbs!) and ski jumps.
I'm fairly cool until we get to #8 (plyo scissors), and then I've modified LONG before Hope begins to modify, and by the time Hope modifies with her "floor scissors", I'm just bouncing in place or at best doing the "pony" to keep moving.
And need I even go there to mention the last interval?! It literally takes prayer to get me through the side leaps let alone attempt the "tuck jump!"

This is sooooooo depressing to me! I realize that weight has "something" to do with it, but I can do most everything else, why can't I get through this workout without so much modification? And how long will it be before I can?
I feel like I need a support group for this issue~ on one hand I feel great after I've gotten through it, but on the other hand I'm always so disappointed in myself for having to modify so much! I modify on like 4 out of 10 intervals, use to be 5, but I've recently conquered the one where you do the lunges off the step (where Cathe says she should be able to get a basketball under your feet :))
But still, this sucks! I feel like I should be able to do this. It doesn't have to look pretty, but heck, can I just get through it like it's suppose to be done!?
Anyone have advice on conquering these particular intervals I struggle with?
And has anyone else struggled with this video initially and has since become proficient with it?
I feel like such an Imax boob!

Donna

Yes!

Count me in on a previous "IMax-Boob"!!! I have to say that IMax was my very toughest video I EVER did. I also had trouble with the exact same intervals you did with the exception of the "two-feet take off" one. Plus, I considered myself advanced! (Til I met IMax ;-)) Take your time and you WILL progress. I'm not saying that those toughies for you will EVER get easy, but they do get easier. I commend you on your perserverance on everything you've done so far. Hang in there! You CAN do it, but it may take longer then you wish. Keep us posted. BTW, I'm glad no one has a video camera on ME when I do the scissor interval. YIKES! It ain't pretty like Cathe!!!)

One more thing!

It was when I put IMax into my rotation once EVERY week that I noticed it to get easier. It sounds from your post like you do, but if not, put it in every week and just keep at it.

Don't feel bad! This one takes a LOOOONG time to master. Just be so proud that you are doing it at all! Like Cathe says before interval #9, "No matter what level you're choosing, you're here right now and that's all that matters." Keep it up! You'll get it!

no modifications??

What, you mean the goal with IMAX is to do it without any modifications???? Hee Hee Hee-- I will be doing this one a very long time before that will happen. But I love it just the same!

Keep up the good WORK

Donna,
I am in need of IMax support also. I am trying to do it in my current (new this week) rotation, but it nearly kills me every time. It is sooooo hard.

I did it this week on a 6-inch step and I still have to modify all of the plyo moves. They make me so winded I can barely breathe and I was NEVER a smoker. Also, the plyo moves make my legs hurt like I am torturing them or something.

Then, I don't even feel that good after IMax since I feel like I failed again.

I am going to keep trying for this rotation, but we will see if it gets any easier. I think once I got through 8 intervals w/o modifications, but never the plyo jack one, or the jump tuck one. I think I usually modify on those two, plus the plyo scissors one, and the plyo jump up and down one.

IMax is killer!

Linda

First of all, you are to be congratulated for even ATTEMPTING Imax!!!!! Could you imagine one year ago doing a tape like that, Miss Donna?!

I've been doing this tape for two years, and I still don't do very good tuck jumps. But I do the whole tape, and I'm proud of it. It DOES get easier, I think, if you do it every week, like Deb H says. I had to go from a 6" to an 8" step because it got too easy, can you believe that?!

Keep on truckin'!

Hang in there Donna!! :)

When I first started IMax, I too had to modify (and I weigh 110lbs) all of the same intervals you're having too. It's NOT like the rest of her cardio tapes, and requires ALOT more lung capacity and muscle use than just your standard step workout! I found that by using it consistently every week 1-2 times per week, that after a couple of months, I no longer had to modify. IMax was designed for the purpose of increasing your cardiovascular conditioning and capacity .. so give it time, and it WILL do just that!! It's one of the HARDEST and MOST advanced tapes out there .. and the fact that you don't have to modify ALL of the intervals speaks for how well you've already conditioned your body!! Chin up!! ... You WILL get there ! :)

I've got 3 words for anyone out there who can do IM without any modifications...You Go Girl!! I've had the tape for at least 3 years and still dread it. I dread it so much that I think I've only done it about 5 times! Every rotation I say to myself, I'm going to incorporate this tape at least once a week or once every other week. Funny how that never happens! This tape kicks my buttocks and takes names!! Keep up the good work, Donna!!

Whoa, Donna! I have done this tape 6 or 7 times. I am getting a little better at the last interval, the tuck jumps. Reasons? I modify almost all the other ones, the tuck jumps is the shortest one, my ab strength has improved. But those power scissors! Mercy! It's very hard. I weigh 133. But I love this workout and plan to do it at least once a month with my other cardio filling in. I'm 42 and have been "back" to fitness only 1.5 years.

Cathe has lots of shorter interval sections in other tapes so I don't feel like I'm neglecting anything to do this one so infrequently. Als, my fitness level improves between IMax workouts and I can use it as a gauge.

Notice how even Cathe and the background exercisers "modify" by not always going all out on every move! I noticed this and it made me feel better. It's a great morale-builder, IMO! I almost tear up when Cathe tells me, "You're here, and that's all that matters."

Can you imagine your co-workers trying it?

Thanks you guys.....

I do feel much better about this, especially when I hear so many of you say it does take some time to get there without the modifications.
One plus I have noticed already is that by including Imax in my rotation once/week, I may not be able to do it without modifications, but it's made me stronger on all my other cardios. I use to have to modify a section or two of CardioKicks, but thanks to Imax, I eat that right up now! And Intense Moves (which I really enjoy), isn't so "intense" thanks to Imax! So I shouldn't complain too much, it is improving my overall conditioning, and that's what I really should be concentrating on.
But one day! One day (goal: by 12/31/02) I'll be able to log on and say,"I did it! I completed Imax w/no modifications!" So I'm going to do this puppy once/week every week until it happens!

Thanks for the support, and if anyone is interested in a monthly "Imax update" thread where we "who haven't mastered" it yet can check our progress, let me know. Maybe knowing that we're going to check in with one another once/month might keep us on track with including it in our weekly workouts! :)
Anyone game?
Donna

HI Everyone,
I would have to admit that this must be the hardest tape known to man.
I can get through most of it but when the scissors come in to play , then I usually have to modify.I started doing the workout about 3 times a week a little while ago and my ankles got bad so I had to slow it downa little.
Although this is a pretty hard tape(we will all agree)I hope that cathe comes out with another one soon...

I do IMax once every two weeks; but I do an interval tape of some kind once a week - Wednesday is interval day - one week IMax, the next Intense Moves, the next IMax again, the next Mindy Mylrea Extreme Intervals, the next IMax...

I can do IMax without modifications, but on a 6 inch step. I've tried it on an 8 inch step, but find that it's really uncomfortable, to the point where I want to give up. I've been doing it on the 6 inch step for probably 6 months, and I keep telling myself it's time to "graduate" to the 8 inch, but I can't bring myself to try it again!!!

It's definitely a kick-butt workout... only for SERIOUS exercisers, that's for sure!!!

I laughed when I saw the title of this topic. If any support group is needed, this is it! I just got my nerve up to do IMAX after several months away from it. I did it on Sunday.

I have to borrow FOUR words from Cathe.

"FIRE IN THE THIGHS!"

I just did IMAX yestersday and I agree it is soo tough that out of 10 intervals I can only do with no modifications 3 out of 10. IMAX will be part of my rotation for the next 4 weeks after that I will take a break in the hope that when I return I may suprise myself hmmmn who am I trying to kind this is the toughest :-tried workout I have yet done either at home or at the gym.

When I bought some CIA videos I have not found them as tough.

Wow! I don't own IMAX yet, but think I might have to buy it to understand what you gals mean:)
BTW how long did it take people to get the moves down on Rhythmic Step? I've only done it 3 times and some parts I just don't get. The transitions confuse me.

Take time to enjoy those who matter most to you & do all things in moderation :)

I found Rhythmic Step very hard to catch on compared to the other Cathe tapes I've done (I've done all but Step Works). The third section is the hardest, and I would recommend doing it in slow motion with rewinds.

It IS a good workout, sweat factor wise. I agree with gettinfit@38 in that a workout has to leave me drenched to make me satisfied with the intensity.
