Internet relationships

All this picture sending has brought on some discussion in our household.

When you meet someone, immediately judgements are made regarding appearance, environment, response to environment, etc. We make judgements about where someone lives, how they keep house, etc. When we meet on the internet...none of the above can apply. We get to know each other without all these physical judgements.

I've heard of people meeting and marrying via internet and I have thought this is crazy, BUT I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't something to developing relationships without judging the physical realm. As I walked through Lacrosse the other day I became very convicted of how much I judge others by their appearance, speech, car they drive, etc. All of the sudden I felt really guilty for doing this and I realized that I appreciate you all here on the forum for who you are without all those physical judgements. So have you ever thought about this??

These are just ramblings and I did want to thank you all for the pictures. I love to finally see who I'm talking to (and the babies are beautiful) and isn't it always a shock to get a picture of someone after you've heard them talk for a while (via posts). This is completely in reverse of our everyday lives....made me realize that I've come to appreciate you all without any preconceived judgements which shouldn't be the case anyway, right!! :7 :7 :7 :7

Briee (and Emy - I haven't received a picture of you yet and based on Max, I'm picturing you bald - but very cute!! he he).

Hi Briee,
It is interesting how we have all gotten to know eachother on line. we guess at each other's appearance , age and lives and we all clique. From people's posts, we can get a sense of each other's personalities but that is it. Interesting point you make. By the way, how old are you? You can email me this if you don't want to post it. Also, did my looks and alexis's looks match the way you saw us before we send our pictures?

I am totally with you guys. I picture people looking completely different than they actually do. At work I often take prescriptions from drs and RN's on the phone. When I finally get to meet them (sometimes several months later) I have already tabulated what they look like in my head. Never fails, they look completley different. I pictured Briee as a little lady with short dark hair. Shopaholic, I pictured you as a blond with a short bob. :) Too funny.

I wonder how people envision me? It's fun to wonder.

I'm with Melanie here.....I thought you were a short petite blonde with short bob...until I saw Alexis. Then I had to completely rethink what you might look like. She has those beautiful dark brown eyes and all that hair - you are both so pretty, but not what I had pictured. And Melanie...I was trying to think of the last time I filled a prescription and what the lady looked like and somehow I had pictured you with dark brown shoulder length hair....and then you sent your picture....you're so cute. And again, I'm still trying to picture Emy....I keep thinking of what Max looks like. I'm figuring that with that bald head and light skin...she must be pretty fair haired and skinned.

If you saw all my kids you probably would have had a better picture of me. All five are toe heads (except one being a tad darker with more olive skin - don't know how he got in there - must have been the mail man    ) and the baby is bald and will probably be for another 6 months or so. They all look identical at birth and everyone says I look just like my daughters. My dh is blonde when he's been in the sun, but gets darker in winter.

Regarding age...don't care at all. I'll be 39 on April 1st, coming quick. I guess I still feel young and I get that from my mom. We are going to the Kalahari Water Park on Monday and I had to "not tell" my mom and tell all the kids "not to tell her" or else she would fly out to go with us. She came last summer and went on all the HUGE waterslides and she is 80 years old. One of the water park guards said she had never even been down the big "wild" slide. I was so worried about her, but she refuses to sit and watch. (she still water skiis). So keep doing Cathe ladies, stay active and you won't get old!!!:7 :7

Briee,
You do look young for your age, I guessed your age from your picture at about 35 or 36. I am 34. Too funny that everyone thought I was blond. The only thing blond about me is my ditsyness. (Hope you blonds can take a joke). My hubby has dark hair and eyes as well, so we got the right baby. Melanie, I have still not seen a picture of you.

I'll be 31 years old this year. Does this make me the 'baby' of the postpartum forum?!? I bet FitNut & Maggie are a bit younger. Again, see how I make these assumptions? ;-) Elyse, I'll see if I still have your e-mail address. If I do I'll send you a picture. First you have to guess what I look like. ;-) You know us pharmacist are the nerdy type. ;-)

Briee, You bring up some interesting points! I agree it is a totally different world here where we can only judge each other based upon our words.

I will try to get my husband to scan at work a picture to send soon.

Briee, I must admit that for whatever reason I pictured you having long, very straight, medium brown hair and freckles! How far from reality that is!

Melanie....I think you might be the baby!! Emy...I'm laughing at how you pictured me, it's funny to hear what you guys thought. Just for the record...everytime I get pregnant my hair gets much darker and reddish in color, but then it returns to normal after babies out...anyone else have a color change. Also this time it got much curlier - I have to blow dry it straight in order for it to lay down at all. HORMONES!!!! (don't they make ya crazy sometimes!!)

Briee

I think you are the baby--I am 35, soon to be 36 (in June). Your picture is cute, but I had you pictured with shoulder length very dark brunette hair.

fun thread:)

I met my BF online!

I met my lovely BF online 5 months ago. We met after exchanging a few emails, long phone calls and exchanging photos. I would NEVER have considered the internet but a friend talked me into it and I thought, why not?

We could not be better suited, everyone gets on well with him, he's not a weirdo, is tall, good looking, successful etc.. He was trying the net as he's not into the whole club scene/ bars for meeting someone.

When I met him in person, he looked slightly different to his photo - even better!

Sorry, I digress but just thought I should put a plug in for internet dating - don't knock it!;)

RE: I met my BF online!

I met mine online too. we have been together for 15 months now. we are still a long distance relationship tho (he is in the Air Force), but a lot of the military s.o.'s i hang out with in our military s.o. support group met their husbands online and years later are still together.

seriously -- had it not been for the internet, we would never have met - our careers and lifestyles would have never ever given us the opportunity to meet.

RE: I met my BF online!

Leslie,
I have never considered online "dating" before but after reading your
reply (and the one before it), I was wondering if you could tell me where or what site I would need to go to? Thanks,

Patti :)

RE: I met my BF online!

I met mine in a military chatroom on yahoo - but there are specific sites out there for meeting others .. lets see, a few of them off the top of my head are:
cupid.com
match.com
yahoo has a personals section, as does msn i think

i know there are more -- i just can't think of them right now :)

I think that of the 100 or so members in our support group, 20 or more of us met our men online :)
