Instructor's Physiques???

I have an idea of the instructor you are referring to, and, on the thought that I may be correct, this instructor has a serious illness that resulted in this weight gain. There have discussions regarding her plight on other forums, and while I specifically cannot recall the disease, it is a hormonal situation that has really done a number on this individual. I am a huge fan of hers, and she has not done a CIA workout since this occurred. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for someone who relies on their body as a tool for their work. When the workout first came out the situation was brought out for everyone to be aware of, and perhaps she didn't feel very comfortable having herself on a cover looking this way. I personally don't feel this woman was being deceptive, and quite honestly it is a good workout. I can be grateful I don't have the same issues.

JMTC...:)

Poochy (aka Laura), thanks for sharing your story....loved it!

Connie, thanks for that information.

In general, I think it is a good idea for an instructor's picture on the front cover to be the same as what is presented in the workout. I don't think that I own any workouts that have "heavier" instructors, but I don't think that would stop me if the workout was good. Why? B/C I workout a lot with Cathe, Amy Bento, Tracie Long, Jari Love and I don't look like them...LOL!!! I think that is a personal decision and I understand that it may be demotivational for some and I do like to be in awe of the instructor I'm working out with. I also, wanted to mention, though, that not all fitness instructors probably care to diet down and are maybe happy at a heavier weight (not unhealthy or obsese) than what is the accepted standard which seems to be as low body weight as one can get. I used to take a step class from a "heavier" instructor at the gym and I got a kick butt workout everytime. She maintained her "look" and it did not change drastically so I assumed she was happy with that. She was busy, like the rest of us, teaching all kinds of classes, holding down another job, taking care of her family, and trying to fuel her workouts. Just posting some of my musings on the subject but I DO understand where the original poster is coming from. If you are not motivated enough to do the workout, I can understand your disappointment.

One comment. Being at a proper weight for me is not about the exercise, but about what I put in my mouth. So saying that the work-out will not work to lose weight because the person is overweight, to me says the person may not be watching their diet, not that the work-out is not good. I have attended classes with instructors that were overweight, and as long as they are good classes, I have no issue with it. Same with overly skinny instructors. Some people have a hard time generating muscle, so don't look buff, but may be quite strong and fit. I really try not to judge on appearance, because I do find it very shallow.

I just had almost the opposite experience with a new workout I bought. I won't say who it was but when I previewed the workout I was almost put off because I felt the instructor was too skinny and that is not what I want to look like. However, once I did it I really enjoyed it and I don't take any notice any more of what she looks like.

The lesson for me was to get over myself - I'd never look like that in a million years because I'm too lazy anyway!!

Well, I hate to hear that anyone is seriously ill. But, I would think that getting well would be her priority, not putting out a fitness video. And I also think they should have put a current picture on the cover, not one from God knows how long ago.

Who said the workout won't help them lose weight because the instructor is overweight? That would be an illogical assumption. I said I am not motivated to do the workout because the instructor is overweight AND the even bigger issue for me was the skinny picture on the cover. I am also curious what a person's eating habits have to do with the thread and how you even made that leap.

And you knew what you were getting when you walked into the class. I personally would not work out with an instructor that I perceived to be overweight.

Well if expecting a fitness instructor to set an example is shallow, then I guess I'm shallow:).

Sorry Tracey, I think you may be missing some good work-outs. People do not have to be buff to motivate. For me, it is the enthusiasm of the work-out, and how well it is put together. I made the leap to the eating, because the assumption is the work-out does not work if a person is heavy. I say, it is food, not the work-out, and the work-out can be fine.

I DO agree that having a different picture on the cover is misleading, but I buy a video according to if it is a good work-out or not, not by the cover, not by the looks of the instructor.

Maybe the photo wasn't here choice, but Greg Twombley, the producer.

Also, this was pretty much at the beginning stages of her illness, and she probably felt the need to remain productive. More power to her, I say.

I have a different outlook on all this stuff, I watched my mother go through a masectomy and hysterectomy at the age of 40, watch her lose her hair, gain and lose weight in the next years due to radiation and chemo before losing her battle 10 years later.

She was the most beautiful woman I have ever known.

Very cool story, Poochy!! I'd love to attend something like that. Whenever I do Intense Moves or Extreme Step I always get the vibe that she'd be a kick to workout with in person. :)

I came across an instructor just like that recently. My first reaction when the workout started playing (because she didn't look that skinny on the cover) was almost shock. It took a while for me to even be able to stand looking at her while I was previewing. She just looked so feeble and lacking in any muscle tone. It was a definite change from the fit-and-not scrawny instructor I had previewed just before that.

JMO, but the instructors physique means alot to me to motivate me. If i have an instructor that is not buff, i feel like what they are doing is not going to make me look better.

One complaint on Beach body. The girls attire never appealed to me. They looked kinda sloppy and not really toned.Their clothes sis not compliment them.

When i do Cathe's dvd's I think they are doing that and i want to look like that.
This workout will get me looking like this.

Just for instance, i do not want to look like Richard Simmons, and i know people that love his workouts.

Guess it is to each his own.
