Increase intensity=increase in weight?

Can this be the case? For the last 2 weeks or so I've increased my intensity working out. For example, instead of doing Low Max on 1 riser, I am doing it with 2. Instead of running for 20 minutes on the treadmill I am now doing 45 minutes to an itread workout. I am lifting more weight also. I'm just getting frustrated as I keep seeing those numbers go up :( I try and eat as clean as I can. In fact, my whole family had pizza the other night and I didn't touch a piece!!! I at scrambled eggs w/veggies instead x( What gives?

TIA,

Becky

Becky, Have you heard of my-ALLI?
I keep recommending this to everyone.
It is new in Drugstores etc.
Alli.com
Check it out. I think that this can help you reach your goals.
You no longer need a prescription for this anymore.
I think that this is worth a try.

Becky,

I cannot disagree more with Rocky. Most of us around here want to be fit and strong... and we want to earn it! When you mess with chemicals in your body there is no telling what may come of it.

Be careful not to burn yourself out... it sounds like you made a huge jump on everything all at once.

If you have increased your intensity, you may not be eating enough to sustain the increase in your metabolism. Be honest with yourself and don't cut back too far on your calories- eat to fuel your workouts.

Best of luck, and keep with it!

Hi Amy, I have worked out for several years, and I am willing to work hard whatever it takes to get where I am at my best.
Really I do not want surgery like liposuction etc.
And doing Cathe's workouts have been wonderful, she has helped a great deal. But the Alli supplement really seems to help as well.
I have not had any adverse reactions.
I have been very frutrated through the years, I was only trying to suggest something that has helped me reach my goals etc.
Of course you need to eat healthy, not unclean.
Rocky

Hi Amy - Your body is probably holding onto water as it repairs your muscles from your increased intensity.

I'm shocked to see someone actually recommend Alli. It is not a supplement. A supplement means it adds something to your body. Alli does not. If you eat healthy foods you do not need Alli which prevents your body from absorbing SOME percentage of fats in food.

I agree with the above post that suggests you are retaining water. I would stick with it for another couple of weeks and see what results you see.

Is the number on the scale going up? Or are you taking your measurements, and they are going up as well? I would imagine that while your weight on the scale might be going up, you would feel a difference in the way your clothes fit and/or see a drop in measurements.

Also, where are you in your cycle? I know that I am always heavier and retain more water in the second half of my cycle before my period.

It may be that the increased intensity simply does not work for you, but I don't know that you can say that quite yet. Give it a few more weeks and see what happens.

I agree with Amy...you simply may not be eating enough to fuel your body with the increased intensity of the workouts. You can eat as clean as you like, but if you don't eat enough to fuel your body, it will hold onto whatever you put into it and you can wind up gaining weight!

Hi Amy,

I recently did the Jan 06 Let's Work rotation that was very high impact and intensity, especially in the first week or so. I did notice that I seemed to "swell" a little - but then it went away. Give it some time and make sure, like other posters said, that you eat enough so your body doesn't go into reserve.

HTH!

Thanks everyone! I am in the last half of my cycle so thanks for posting that, it may be part of it. Honestly, I was really trying to not eat as "much" clean foods, as the scale kept creeping up, so I thought that I must not have an accurate grip on my portions. I was skipping snacks and just sticking to 3 meals a day. I will add my snacks (healthy of course) back in and see what that brings. And thanks for the Alli recommendation, but I am a nurse and have seen far too many terrible side effects from a lot of supplements. Although I realize it may help some, for me it is not worth ANY risk, even though they may say that there aren't any. I could tell you stories upon stories of side effects from these pills/supplements that we see in our walk in clinic. Thanks though! And for the poster who asked about measurements...I haven't taken any but my clothes still fit the same, so I don't think my measurements have increased. If anything I know my legs have leaned out as I couldn't wear a pair of khaki's that I purchased in the beginning of the summer due to my inner thighs...now I wear them without any issues :) I sure forget about that stuff! I think I may put too much emphasis on that darn scale!

Thanks everyone!

Becky
