How do your exercise habits change in the summer?

I struggle with summertime workouts. I don't like working out inside because it's too blasted hot and it seems like a shame to not be outside enjoying the warm weather and long days. I know I can run, bike, kayak, rollerblade, etc. which are great activities but I have a hard time pushing myself at these activities to give me the workout that I get from a Cathe tape.

I'm hoping Cardio Coach will be a motivator. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

My work outs don't change. I blast the a/c in my work out room and go to town! It's hot outside too so taking my work out outdoors where there is not only heat but SUN glaring down on me would probably do me worse! LOL I stick to my exercise routine and when I go outside I have fun and I don't have to worry about getting the work out in. :)

I get more in in the summer. Besides my regular workouts, I love to jump on my bike around 5:30am, or late in the afternoon when it's still hot but cooling just a bit. Maybe I'm a psycho but I love to be pedaling up hill as hard as I can, sweat pouring down! :D

I don't change the actual routine of workouts...I still get up extra early to do Cathe cardio, weights, running, whatever! BUT...I do get more in during the actual day, like swimming, biking, walking, etc.

Having said that, my workouts suffered last summer BIG TIME simply because we were always SO busy at the town pool, neighbors' houses, vacation trips, etc that I was always TOO TIRED to actually get up early. This sumemr I am going to focus on the sumemr mornign workouts and make sure they get done!

I keep my workouts the same, but I end up getting more exercise because of all the yardwork I have to do! In the springtime, I get pretty hot before I turn on the AC, but once summer hits, the air is on, so indoor exercise isn't too bad.

Actually, my workouts are better during the summer! I'm a teacher, so during the summer, when I get up early, I can actually workout instead of getting ready for school! I love to run in the early summer mornings, when it's still cool, and the sun is coming up. I still keep Cathe in the workout routine, but during the summer I can run more than I can during the school year.

I still do indoor workouts in summer but I love the outdoors so I do as much as I can outside, weather permitting. I also try to get my kids involved as much as possible so we do the walking trails at the local nature center's and park trails, ride bikes to town for ball practices, swimming of course, riding horses, golf (we are fortunate to live close to a nice course that has a driving range so I'll take the kids up there and just hit balls...kids aren't allowed on the course itself unless they are 'good' golfers, i.e. won't leave divots on the greens). We also have a volleyball set-up that stays out all summer so we play volleyball almost daily. And then there's softball/baseball. You name it, we do it, in the summer.

I have one child interested in tennis, a game I never got into so she'll take lessons this summer.

Being in a cold climate...I live solely for the coming of summer and 80-90 degree days. Just wish we had more of them every year.

While my routine stays pretty much the same, my schedule does change & I try to get all my gym workouts in during the week so my weekends are free for the beach.

I actually have the opposite problem--I have more trouble sticking to the routine during the winter. I think this is totally psychological--I find it much more difficult to get up early to workout, & to go to the gym after work, b/c it's dark & I feel like I should be either still asleep or on my way to bed.

When it gets light earlier & stays light longer I'm much more motivated to get up early/go to the gym after work.

Spring is when I set my sights on a fall marathon so summer brings longer, but not necessarily more intense, workouts.

It does get tricky for me because I like to do everything and it has to be done a certain way. Mowing takes 5 hours and hubby mows too fast and misses areas of grass, etc. Son actually does a better job and he is going to help me more this year with it. DD will probably be working. Cars need cleaned, but hubby would rather spend money on getting it cleaned then taking our hose to it and doing it for free so I just clean the cars too. I have a large garden to tend to and several flowerbeds. No one else here wants to deal with the gardens but me.

My workouts don't change but adding more outdoor activity helps get rid of any winter insulation I may have accumulated;-) I love to ride my bike to run errands in the summer or throw it in the backseat of the car and go for a tour wherever the mood strikes. Just the extra daylight makes a huge difference, you won't find me rolling around the yard with my Kids in the winter but we love to be out there in the summer. Nothing like a good game of badminton or catch or a walk, run, bike, rollerblade after supper.:) I can't wait!

My workouts do suffer during the summer. My work schedule changes and I only get 1/2 lunch so I don't get in my usual long walk. My son plays soccer and has swimming lessons in the evenings so those nights I'm usually rushing around and don't have time to get in a workout. We're usually outside most of the nights too - gardening, yard work, etc. I try to get in at least 3-4 workouts a week. The fall and winter months actually work best for me.

I run outside alot in the summer time.Either early mornings or later in the evening, if its not to sticky out. I do tend to put my weight training in the back burner though b/c sometimes we make our runs longer and when I get home I am short on time.

My w/o remains the same, but I actually have more time so often I w/o a little longer. In addition, since we live in the mountains our family also hikes, canoes, rafts and bikes in spring and summer.
