In pain after High Step Circuit - Is this "normal"?

Hi Cathe,

I just did your High Step Circuit DVD for the first time yesterday and I am in pain today. Mostly the pain is in my back; ouch! The muscles are really sore. Also last night I noticed my knees were hurting quite a bit when I would bend them, which never happens to me. Do you think it's just going to take some getting used to? Should I be doing additional stretches afterwards? Could I be using too many risers (although I used a maximum of 3)?
I should mention that I do many of your other step DVD's about 4 times a week and have been working out for the past 4 or so years.
Please let me know what you think, before I try the high step again!

Thank you very much,
Amy

RE: In pain after High Step Circuit - Is this

Hi - obviously I'm not Cathe, but I've been doing leg press on a high step as part of my regular workouts for a long time. One thing I wanted to point out to you is that you should make sure your knee doesn't shoot out over your toe on the downward motion. Just like when doing squats or lunges, its important to watch your alignment on the high step. I'm not sure why your back is hurting - maybe your weight was too heavy?

Lighten your weights and lower your step! Taking time to work up will get you better results and build strength. The best part about the high step is that it is adjustable!! Enjoy!

My back hurts from doing the rear delt band work where you have to lean forward. Instead, use dumbells for that segment and sit on your high step.
