improving your immune system

Thanks everyone. I will take into consideration all that was suggested and am still checking out the websites. I took her back again today and was finally diagnosed with severe bronchitis. She is now on some strong antibiotics and an inhaler. Last year it was mono. The inhaler is really helping to stop the coughing. Last night she really freaked me out - had this 3 min. coughing spell that would not quit for even a half a second. Her face turned red , then purple because she could not even get a breath in!! Ugh. What fun, huh, T.? Marnie

This is an interesting thread. Is it possible that kids can have better immune systems by lucky genes? I don't want to jinx anything, but my kids are very rarely sick. My oldest is 15 years old and has never missed a day of school. His brothers (11 years old) have missed only a couple. My DH and I hardly ever get sick either - sometimes we feel like we're fighting off a cold, but that's about as bad as it gets.

We're all very good about handwashing, but our diet is not that great. Probably bad compared to the people on this forum, but better than the average American family if that makes sense.

Oh - and I also have the problem with grandparents shoving junk food at my kids all the time. It makes me CRAZY!! x(

Marnie - I hope that your daughter feels better soon.

I'm sure that factors in. Just like some people can drink and smoke and live to be 90 years old. Some of us are just born with a stronger immune system and better resistance to disease. (Unfortunately, I think I ended up on the other end of the gene pool when they were handing out strong immune systems! Which is why I go more the nutritional route).

Absolutely Erica! My 4 y/o dd and my dh are exactly the same - they can't get sick! My 4 y/o dd does the same thing EVERY time we have a virus run through the house - gets a fever that will not come down with any medicine (I have to carefully watch this) then the next day is just about well-maybe a little tired, next day completely well. Never gets a stuffed up nose or cough. I mean NEVER. Dh will catch a cold once or twice a year and it never develops into anything much more than a runny nose/sore throat. (although you would think he was dying of pneumonia by the way he acts:) - typical dh ;-) )

My ds and I fall somewhere in between the rest of them. Marnie

Here is a book I used frequently when my children were young.
"Superimmunity for kids: What to feed your children to keep them healthy now,and prevent disease in the future " by Leo Galland. I highly recommend this one.
