IMAX2 - homemade pregnancy testing kit!

Cheshire Cat

I do IMAX2 almost every week and absolutely LOVE the challenge this workout provides but a week last Saturday I was absolutely beside myself because I couldn't do it. By interval 3 I was gasping for air and had to keep walking around before I could move on. At interval 5 I had to sit down. I just couldn't keep up and was sweating more than I would do during this tape in the summer months. By the end of the workout though (I eventually got through it) I had a sneaking feeling that I could be pregnant - there was no other explanation for my poor performance! My period wasn't due for 3 more days so I wasn't sure at all...but just a few days ago I bought a testing kit and it was positive :) My doctor also confirmed the result!

Hubby and I are absolutely over the moon! The only problem is, last October I had a miscarriage and I'm absolutely petrified of going down that road again. I'm going to take some time out now and take it really easy but everything I read suggests continuing exercising but don't work so hard and so I was wondering, has anyone tried any of the many pregnancy workout tapes out there and could anyone recommend one?

Thanks
CC

Congratulations CC! I, too, knew something was up early on when the Cathe workouts that were normally pleasantly challenging became almost impossible to do.

At this point, yes...exercise is ok but you must listen to your body. Your body is in total preparation mode now to make a baby and that's its priority. During my first trimester every workout was harder - my legs were like lead and I had morning sickness and fatigue. I had to modify intensity and duration. Lower intensity, lighter weights and cardio only 30-40minutes long. I also dropped to 3 workouts a week instead of my normal 5-6 /wk. The extra day or two of rest in between was absolutely essential during that time. That's what I did but it's different for everybody. You may find you can do more or less. Keep in mind that interval workouts aren't recommended during pregnancy. I've put Imax1&2 on hold until afterwards. Whenever I encounter intervals in other Cathe tapes, I modify.

The only pregnancy dvd I've purchased is Fit For 2. I haven't done it yet but I may start this week or next. I wanted a step workout that demonstrated safe moves and reasonable intensity during 2nd and 3rd trimesters. It's not Cathe quality but I think I'll have the patience to stick with it during the next few months. It was made after the revisions in '94 to the ACOG guidelines. I can't speak about any other pregnancy workouts so recommendations from others would be great.

Hope you join the rest of us regularly at this forum! And congrats again to you and hubby!

Congtatulations. enjoy the pregnancy and remember after a miscarriage, most people do have a healthy pregnancy. The only pregnancy video I enjoyed was fit for 2. Another recommendation is two jammin workouts by gay gasper(its a ciavideo). It has pregnancy modifications in its step and strike workout.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look at them :)

Everything is so exciting right now and I just can't take this grin off my face!

Congrautlations CC!!! No advice on pregnancy videos... although I did just purchase a pregnancy yoga tape but no cardio or weight tapes. Good luck!

CC-- congrats on your pregnancy! I too will be praying for a healthy pregnancy for your and your baby to be! I purchased and used the 2 videos that Shopaholic suggested-- Fit4Two & Two Jammin Workouts. I was fortunate as I was able to continue Cathe's videos with modifications, so I didn't use these videso much. If you're interested in purchasing them from me I'll give you a deal, just e-mail me: [email protected]
Welcome to the forum & again Congrats!!!

Hi and Congratulations, CC!!

I too just found out I am pregnant with our first child and knew something was up when Cathe's tape were kicking my rear more than they usually do. I miscarried a few years ago and am scared/nervous/paranoid about everything that I am doing now. I've still been trying to do Cathe's tapes or walk on the treadmill a couple/few times a week. I take a lot more days off now than I did before I was pregnant. I have to take lots of breaks and sips of water plus modify a few things that I never have had to before. Right now I'm trying to talk myself into popping in a tape. I haven't purchased a pregnancy tape yet, but am interested in what is recommended to you.

Congratulations!!

CC - Congratulations!

I have two children, and am now pregnant with my third after having a miscarriage a couple of years ago. (My miscarriage was unplanned, and this pregnancy was also unplanned...my husband had a vasectomy in June that failed).

When I was pg with my son (my first) I was pretty new to working out. I had never really stayed consistent. I started working out while pregnant doing walks and also Denise Austin's pregnancy tape. I was really worried about miscarriage, and any time I had a cramp or anything, I laid down on the couch for at least 30 minutes petrified that something horrible would happen if I didn't. After he was born, I stayed consistent with working out and started doing more challenging tapes like Kathy Smith. About a year later, I discovered Cathe, and new what challenging really felt like. I absolutely loved her tapes. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I stuck with my Cathe tapes sticking mostly to Step Works and Power Max type tapes. I avoided the intervals, but I did stay on a 6" board the whole time as I felt confident in my abilities. I gained 25 lbs and worked out religiously. I really listened to my body. I put the leg strength tapes on hold as my perineum was much weaker with my second pregnancy. My husband and I also walked 3-4 miles together almost everyday. I think working out when you're pregnant is great, and it helps keeping you feeling good. The key is to listen to your body and modify when necessary. I would often split a workout into 2 segments doing say the warm-up and sections one and two of Step Works and then maybe later adding the last 10 minutes of section three in the evening. Splitting it up seemed to make it easier, I've heard that you still receive the same benefit.

Good luck. Hope you feel good throughout your pregnancy so that you don't need to take a break from your workouts. I was on vacation last week, and just as I thought, my morning sickness hit the day we left! :-( I am not feeling as sick as I did with my first two however, and am hoping to start working out again tomorrow after now having taken a week and a half off. We'll see though. I'm just going to take it very easy.

Welcome CC!! I had all of the same fatigue issues mentioned above in the first trimester, but I just modified Cathe's or the Firm and rested whenever I felt I needed it. That is harder than it seems, isn't it??? Anyway, my only other suggestion is to not stress!! Stress never helps any situation, especially pregnancy! ;) Congrats to you and your hubby and we look forward to hearing from you! We have a weekly pregnancy check-in and it might help to see what everyone else is doing. :D
