Imax 1 dread...Need motivation for tonight!

I don't know what it is, but whenever I am supposed to do Imax 1 I dread it. I almost never can get myself motivated to do it in the morning and even now, knowing I am going home to do it after work, I have some dread. I guess it kind of bores me a little. I always feel like it was so much easier to get into once I start, but....

Well to me, even the warm up is more challenging than most of the step workouts I used to do. How 'bout committing to just the warm up. If you finish that you can say, well that was 13 minutes of low impact and stretching, or you can say to yourself, “Hmm, I didn’t warm up my muscles for nothin’!” and just go for it. I find that Imax is addictive in that once I start, I always find the stamina and motivation to do the whole thing. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm all done and I feel great. I talked myself through the warmup and then got into it and once again realized its not so bad after all. The only reason I didn't want to do Imax 2 is b/c I am doing the July 2003 rotation for the second month in a row and I've managed to follow it exactly and want to try to do that again. Its a little silly, but it helps challenge me.

And you know what? Here's a radical thought: if the dread factor is that high each and every time, then simply don't do it. Life is too short to waste it doing workouts that someone else thinks you should be doing. General rule: if the thought of having to do IMAX might mean you don't work out at all, then shelve the idea and do what you want.

My thought for the day, loads will disagree with me no doubt, but hey, free the spirit!!!

Chloesmom,

Just curious to know what kind of improvements you saw after the 1st month of doing the July 2003 rotation? I'm thinking about doing this one in July...

Thanks!

Edited - I meant to say "June"....

I think it's good to challenge yourself with a workout that you dread from time to time because getting out of your comfort zone (fitness and otherwise) can be a good thing.

That said, Imax was on the plate for me yesterday, and since I just didn't feel like doing it but wanted something interval-ish, I did CTX S&I plus the Challenge from Step Blast.

If I'm dreading something, I don't skip a workout entirely. I either convince myself to do it or choose something I feel like doing more, but which is still challenging.

This is one of the reasons I work out in the morning (although I know we don't all have that luxury). This way, I'm not dreading what I'm going home to (in the case of a really tough work out after I've already worked all day). Exercise is done and out of the way. When I work out in the morning, I don't talk myself out of it...I just do it.:p

I'm with Clare on this point...if you really dread doing it than JUST DON'T DO IT. There are other workouts you can sub. Boy, I just feel for you having this on your mind all day...to heck with that!! Working out should be fun AND challenging without being a burden. Life is too stressful for us with all of our responsibilities to add even MORE stress to your day by scheduling a workout you hate. No one is going to know if you don't do Imax...I don't even own it because so many people here feel the same way as you so this is one I will wait to buy but there are plenty of other Cathe's you can do instead and not spend all day dreading your evening workout. Shelve this one for awhile and give yourself some peace!:p

Good advice, but if you still want to use this workout this is what I do: I give myself permission to cheat on this one. I love Hope. She is in the background. Once or twice she modifies her moves. I just can't do all those blasted plyos, and I have to modify to get through it. I also keep my step on 6 inches instead of 8. It is a very difficult workout. My legs shake when I do this workout.
That is fatigue, and that is hard enough.

The results have been great, I'm more "cut" all over and my legs, especially my hamstrings and glutes have really tightened alot, without getting bigger in the quads like I have a tendency towards. I did two rounds of the January 04 rotation just before I started the July rotation. For me, it has been less cardio than I was doing before and more rest days and I'm thrilled with the results so far. I'm amazed that I am actually not working as hard as I was before and look better. It has also made me more careful with my diet, knowing I won't be doing as much cardio as before. Go for it!

Soooo...is Imax 1 a similar workout to Bootcamp? I see there are 10 intervals and no step. My next purchase is going to be Circuit Max/CK but I may just splurge for both of these Dvd's.
