Hey, I have a question for you...or any runners out there. I have noticed that you are really into running. On another thread I think you said you run 5 days and week and started in Jan. Have you noticed any big changes in your body from this? Also, would you mind posting your typical work outs for a week.
The reason I am asking is because I want to start running more often. I love doing my Cathe workouts at home, but sometimes (most of the time) my children interrupt. My husband does his best to keep them distracted, but it is a real pain to deal with. I end up getting frustrated and my workout is cut short. So, I was thinking about running more often instead of doing so much Cathe (Boo, hoo!!) I don't want to get burned out on running or get too used to it. I basically want to make running my main workout. Then I thought I would work my arms and abs or do yoga/pilates on the weekend. So, I thought I would ask for your opinion.

Thanks a bunch!!

Hi Sarah (or is it Sara...don't want to screw that up;-) ),

Let's see, I did Cathe step for cardio for quite some time and that prepared me for running. I bought a treadmill in January and started on that. I ran at a comfortable pace 4-5 days a week until I felt like stopping...allowing my body to adjust to the new groove.

I started taking my runs (or should I say "running":7 ) outside in late June because I knew that is what I needed to do if I was ever going to run any races....marathon dreams since I was a kid!

My kids only let me run outside on the weekends. My DH works early until late so during the week isn't really an option, so I burn up my treadmill during the week.

My suggestion to you is to start slow and try following a "training plan" for new runners...just until you get a feel for it.

They have awesome training plans. Follow one for a few weeks then tweak it to meet your needs.

Easy warm up, light stretch, run/walk, cool down, good stretch.

Also, allow your body time to "learn to enjoy" the feel of running. At first, it will probably suck and maybe hurt all over but as your body becomes more fit, it actually feels good...GREAT, actually! The runners' high is an addiction. We all started out running only a few miles, then we reached the "high" and needed more miles...and more and more...call us junkies...it would be the same damn thing if it wasn't so good for you!!

Keep the questions coming...

It is Sara...no H by the way :)

Thanks for the reply! Those are some great websites. I have been running on and off for about 3 years now. I have never ran over 4 miles. That was my limit. I had to stop running and exercise period during my last pregnancy due to some early complications. After my baby was born, I started doing more Cathe and less running. Now I really want to run more often because I can leave my house and "get away" for awhile. I am only worried about not getting enough exercise for my arms and abs. I thought I would do some Cathe upper body and abs 2 days a week and run 4 days a week. How does that sound to you?? Do you work your arms and abs often?

My sister has been running for about 10 years now. She runs marathons here and there. She never does any weight or ab work...just running. She is so tiny and fit. She said the good thing about running is that you can find hills to run on if you are short on time. That way it is still a complete workout, but in less time. I have some kicka$$ hills around here!

Thanks a bunch!
