I'm shrinking and not in a good way!

Awe blast. I just got back from the Dr. The nurse measured me at 4 feet 11"!!! All this time I've been saying I was 5 feet tall she broke my heart and stole my inch! :( Why is it that the older you get you get hair where you don't want it and everything starts to point due south. Ever since my 2 kids my girls, . . cha cha's, . .boobies, . .whatever you call them have shrunk! My feet, . .I kid you not have gone from a size 7 to a 6 and 1/2. I'm shrinking every where else except my waist! What the heck?! The weather here in California totally reflects my mood. :(

You know..... that same thing recently happened to me. I started with a chiropractor and she measured me herself. She might not have said anything except that I am the "same" height as she is: 5' 2-1/4". Well, I was floored, because I've always been 5" 3". I asked her if that means I'm shrinking, and she said it's more likely that people previously didn't measure very accurately. Hmmmmmm. (queue the twilight zone music here.... I live in California too! Are any other Californians shrinking?! ;))

:(
It depends on posture, too. Were you slouching?

I was very happy when (thinking I was 5' 6" "on a good day," but really being more like 5' 5") I got measured as 5' 6"!

It also depends on the time of day. If you measure in the morning you are actually a little taller, because as you go through the day gravity puts pressure on your spine compressing your vertebra together.

No slouching, . .if anything I was trying to cheat. 5'5" You're lucky! I'd take your 5' 5" in a heart beat!

Awe blast then I'm in trouble because it was her first appointment at 8:00am. :( I'd hate to see what I measured at now.

Yeah, . . I wouldn't doubt it, . .she had me take my socks off and everything but I'd be happy to blame California and the water!

Hey, that's my height too - 5'2-1/4"!

i go through this too! shorter ppl of the world UNITE! usually the nurse will measure me at my DD's appointments so she sees how she should stand straight. sometimes i am 4'11 sometimes i am 5'1 othertimes i am a 5' even gal.

either way i get no respect as 31 year old who is the pretty much the same height as my 10 year old DD LOL.:D

Laying on an inversion table before measuring the height can add up to two inches.

Nevertheless, loosing height could be a sign of osteoporosis and I would have a bone density test.

Janie,

I think it's pretty common to shrink a bit as we age so I wouldn't worry about it.

My DH had open heart surgery about 7 years ago and he lost about 2 inches in height. I think that's pretty common with heart surgery though. Not sure why!
