I'm new here and want post-natal weight loss advice

I just wanted to introduce myself, since this is my first post here (although some of you may recognize me from the Firm Forum).

I'm expecting baby #2 in 2 weeks, so I'm trying to plan my workouts for after he arrives. My daughter is 14 months old, and I never really got to lose all my first pregnancy weight before going back for seconds. My doctor made me stop exercising around the first of the year, so I'm feeling really huge and out of shape! (And it doesn't help that my baby constantly craves chocolate!)

Do you think I need to wait 6 weeks after the baby is born, or can I start working out sooner? I've been doing Firms for years, but I'm seriously considering getting Cathe's S&H and some of her cardio DVDs, because I've been hearing great things about her. I'm convinced that building more muscle will help in the weight loss because of its effect on metabolism, and that I also need lots of cardio.

If I get the Cathe DVDs, I'll also need a longer step (my Firm step and my old Jane Fonda step just aren't big enough). Do you guys recommend the traditional Step Co step or the new one Cathe uses in her more recent videos (I think it's called a Super Stepper)?

Any advice is welcome!

Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Welcome to the forum and congrats on your baby. I think you should get the traditional Step Co step because you can use it for strength and step tapes. I think I remember Cathe saying that the super step is used just for weight training and not for step tapes.

You may want to check in the section for moms about the post-natal stuff, I can't help you there.

I hope this helps:D

I didn't even look at my tapes until about 3 months after baby #2 was born. My oldest was exactly 2 when #2 was born and yours is even younger. I was so sleep deprived I could not have possibly done a tape!

You can only do what your body allows you to do. I had a preemie so was nursing every 3 hours around the clock (doctor's orders) and didn't have the energy to do workouts. If you feel you can do it then go low-impact. Heavy lifting might make you bleed a lot and so might jumping around. I know you are anxious to get back into your workouts but be careful.
