I'm in charge of a wedding reception! Yikes!!

My best friend and I went out to eat lunch this weekend, and she tells me her daughter is getting married. Well we discussed the wedding and somehow I was pulled into do the food and punch for the wedding reception. I don't really put myself in the position of involving myself into things like this. I was hoping to get some ideas from you ladies and to maybe get more input. these are the food ideas I already have:

peanuts
mints
midget pickles (do I get sour or sweet?)
finger sandwiches(chicken salad and pemino cheese)welcome any other ideas
veggie tray
powdered wedding cookies
sausage balls (maybe)
Punch ( any of you have a recipe for a punch?)

If any one can give me anymore ideas, please feel free to share! I have never been in charge of something like this! Scared of failing.

I've helped with and am in charge for these type of events at my church. I'm trying to think of things you haven't listed, but I'm blanking right now, except for:

Cheese/crackers/deli meat trays. No matter what diet or way of eating of the guests between the veggie trays you already mentioned and these, you should be ok. If their vegetarian or low carb or whatever, they can pick an choose to satisfiy themselves.

Don't forget coffee and the stuff that goes with it: sugar, sugar substitutes, and creamers!!! Some folks won't be able to survive without it! At least not the ones that attend my church!

Hope that helps a little.

Kim-

What's your budget? Is this just hors' dourves(sp)? Are you actually making/buying the food or is it being catered?

My friend is having a simple wedding and I am making the food and she is paying. I am just in charge of the food, serving the punch and cutting the cake. Also decorating the table.

Are there any finger sandwiches other than the one I mentioned that would be good? I would like maybe doing some different items. any foods you think that would go in place of another please share it with me. I am open to any ideas!!

And if anyone has a punch recipe please let me know! I know I have ask this already.

All of your help is greatly appreciated!!

I know a great punch receipe...........oh..it is so good!:p

You will need:

Cranberry juice (cranberry/raspberry juice is fine)
pineapple juice
seven up
a mold
orange and/or lemon slices

All you do is pour the cranberry and pineapple juice together into some type of mold (like a bundt cake mold).....add some lemon or orange slices and freeze.

Right before you plan to serve remove the juice from the mold (alittle bit of hot water should do the trick), place in punch bowl and pour seven-up over all of it. Add ice and more orange or lemon slices.

Yummy! Hope this helps!

I thought of something else. I don't know if you have a Costco but their spinach dip and artichoke dips are delicious. You could serve those with sliced french bread or crackers and some vegetables.

Yes, the fruit trays - I thought of it yesterday afternoon, but Terri got here before I did! (Thanks, Terri, it's a truly healthy option, and my brain wasn't on, must be the Aug. rotation!).
