If you've joined the forums within the past year

If you have a problem with it, then don't post. It's as simple as that. We live in country that allows these freedoms.

<sigh> Am I the only one who sees this as a circular argument? I mean, if you had a problem w/the OP, or a problem w/my post, then why did you respond?

Don't get me wrong Jane, I have no problem w/you responding or w/anyone responding for that matter. Yep, it's a first amendment thing & all that. What I have a problem with is people responding to posts they don't like by saying don't respond to posts you don't like!

When STS comes out and gets very popular or famous, there will be a lot of new people, with a great deal of questions and new insight. I think we better get used to it.

I understand where Amy is coming from and thought it was a good idea since we had so many new forum members to state that there is a search option. Believe it or not, some people don't know that, I didn't when I started posting here many years ago.

I think I have said that before but I want to repeat it. I am not the forum police, this forum does not revolve around me or any other single individual what I may find silly, boring or TMI, others may find an interesting topic, and the other way around.

Me personally, I think people should be able to talk about whatever they want to. It does get a little old sometimes when the same question is asked over and over again, even though the same question was already discussed a few threads down. BUT, no one forces me to read it, let alone answer it.

It gets a little frustrating when you answer a question, give a link for more information and the poster doesn't even want to take the time to look it up.

And to those who don't have time to search and look things up, whoever answers the question is also taking time to respond to the question. And their time is not any more or less valuable then yours. Maybe a little due dilligence and thanks to the person who answered would be nice, just a ......uuuumh suggestion.

I just find that the forum has changed over the past several months and there is a lot of what I perceive as entitlement attitude and it's all about me demeanour.

I first learned about Cardio Coach from coming to this site a few months ago. I'm glad not every one uses the "search' option every time they have a question.
If they did I never would have found Coach Sean. How do you search for something if you don't know if exists?

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to answer repeat questions. Because of you I did my first Cardio Coach yesterday and loved it. He's so sneaky he had me pushing myself harder than I ever have before on the treadmill.

Sincerely,
Dianne

I'm so happy you found CC Dianne!

I agree with you. Some things are worth repeating.
Take a look into the "Coming out of lurkdom" thread. You'll find one example of Coach Sean's giving heart.
Believe me, it's just one of many examples of his generosity. He deserves repeated threads of praise!

Can I just point something out? A thread like this, might make a new member think twice about asking a questtion. They might think that they're "bothering" everyone. I know if I were a new member, I'd think twice about posting a question. This is just my opinion though.

ITA
It also makes old members think twice about posting.
I've been lurking here for four years and I'm still afraid to post sometimes.

Some of you gals are really mean.

Answering questions shouldn't be a PITA. If it is Kathryn, you need to stop. Someone will be there to answer it in your place.
This should be an enjoyable place for old and new members.

Fitness and nutrition has been a very long journey for me. One thing I know for certain, there is not one person who has all the answers.
I've had to ask a lot of questions, and then sift through all the information to find what works for me. I am thankful for all the wonderful people who have helped me along my journey. It is a never ending journey and I hope I'm never discouraged from asking questions.
Right on. :)

Runs in and sticks a knife into this thread.

Can we just agree that everyone can ask whatever they want to, people don't need to feel obligated to answer if they don't want to and we all just treat each other with a little courtesy, respect everyones time and effort and don't act like the world revolves around any single one of us.

I completely agree with this. Kathryn, I'm not trying to pick on you, but although you at times provide useful information, I have often been offended by and felt bad for the recipients of your posts that "redirect" people to the appropriate forum. That can really be done through PM so as not to embarrass the poster.
I also agree that the original post was uncalled for (although I don't think it was intended to be mean-spirited, I just don't see how it's helpful or necessary in any way). My opinion is that if a person is spending so much time here that she is noticing repetitious questions to the point that she is annoyed, then she may want to consider spending less time here. I also see no problem with NOT searching, for the reasons several others have posted.

I couldn't have said this better. I just had to chime in as a "newbie". I asked a question under the "Ask Cathe" forum and Kathryn did make me feel like I shouldn't have asked my question. My question was directed to "Cathe or Educated Crowd". It was regarding the hand and ankle weights for sale in the "Fitness By Cathe". If you click on those items for sale under "Walking", it offers cardio hand and ankle weights. They actually sale them as a "walking kit". My question was whether or not it was NOW acceptable to use weights for hands and ankles while walking?

Exercise, just like Nutrition is forever changing and evolving. It confused me when I saw them for sale as a "walking kit" and was trying to clarify. Kathryn asked me "why would you want to do that"?

Please keep in mind it takes a newbie a little nerve to post in the first place.

I do search, and I have learned so much from these forums and truly respect everyone's wealth of knowledge. Just usually prefer to lurk...it's not as risky.

I am sorry you feel it is risky to post here.

I don't know, I read the thread that you referred to and I don't see anything wrong with the way Kathryn answered. You asked for thoughts on using ankle and wrist weights, and she gave you her thoughts. She explained that using it may hurt you. Why would you want to do this (hurt yourself)? That's how I read it.

To her credit as usual she took the time to give a very thourough and extensive answer.

Sometimes it might be a case of "you said but I heard". And sometimes some of us come across a lot harsher than it is meant ;)

I don't mean to pick on you, just thought this maybe was a misunderstanding.

I think,
Ame was trying to be 1, helpful and 2. she's sick and tired of reading the same questions over and over. I didn't read it as a harsh post, she was merely expressing her personal dislike (re the repeating of the qus) I repeat her personal dislike. That means most people here are happy to answer, everything and anyhting.

Solution : Everybody (not just newbies) Keep Posting your questions.

or

Search (if you want)

either way: theres no harm done.

If the Moderators of this Forum have an issue, (with anything on the Forum) and that includes the same questions being asked, I have no doubt they will jump and say so. Its no BIG DEAL! Lets move on.

I think this is a really valid point!

And FWIW, I (at times) have been annoyed by repeat questions, so I just skip them. At other times, I will answer. I am moody, so it just depends on the day... :p
