I just read the BFFM yesterday and today. It makes a lot of sense and I am thrilled that you ladies recommended it! Now, tell me some results!

Apparently I have to up my calories to be at the level that he recommends. How the heck can I do that? I try to eat all clean foods, but then I am short. I get up at 8 and feed my 3 month old daughter and that takes about an hour. So that's 9. I then put my daughter down at start my workout around 9:30ish, on an empty belly like Tom recommends. I then get to eat something aroung 10:30-11. I assume that is why I have a hard time getting all my calories in. Some of you will tell me to get up earlier, well, I am a co-sleeping parent and when I get out of bed, so does my daughter. She sleeps in the fold of my arm, so she knows when I get up. What should I do?

Eat when you get up. Tom does recommend "fasted cardio" but he also says that you should not skip breakfast. I think skipping breakfast is worse than not getting in fasted cardio. I would do a light snack because you're not waiting too long before you workout.

You won't like what I have to say, but you need to get up earlier. And this is just totally my opinion and experience with my three kids and I really don't want to start some massive controversary about parents sleeping with their children. With that said, your child will sleep better and so will you if she has her own place to sleep. (Let the flaming begin x( ;-) )

Now, on to BFFM. I've been following this program on and off for years and the most difficult part is getting in the 5 meals/day. Yes, that means setting the alarm (6:00-6:30 a.m.), workout and eat the first meal by 7:30 - 8:00. Then, I usually space the meals about 2-2 1/2 hours apart. That seems to work well for me since I like the last meal of the day to be around 5:00 - 6:00. I go to bed early, usually around 9:00-10:00 and like to have the last meal be about 3-4 hours before bedtime. BTW, I'm usually starving by then!\

I hope that helps - BFFM book is fabulous and I refer to it all the time!

I don't use BFFM, but...

I think (and I am SUCH an expert lol) that if you are breastfeeding you definitely need to eat in the morning - especially if you are going to breastfeed and then do a vigorous workout. I am not familiar with BFFM, but I am sure he was not writing for new mommies :)

ps - I slept with my girls for the first little while - I can't remember when they started to sleep in a crib. I found it was just easier when they were eating 24 hours a day (at least it seemed like that at the time :)) It was different for each baby - I just did what worked for us.
