If you could splurge on just one thing...

What would it be? I'm turning 40 (gulp!) next month and I would like to do a little something for myself. But I'm not quite sure which way to go and would love to hear some different ideas. Perhaps you've done the same thing and gave yourself a little gift. Here are some of my thoughts:

1) A really cute pair of jeans
2) A smashin' new outfit
3) A fabulous pair of shoes
4) A gotta-have-it handbag
5) A simple piece of jewelry (bracelet, necklace or earrings)
6) Instead of buying something, pay off a credit card

My DH is throwing me a dinner party at one of my favorite restaurants and has invited my family and friends. In today's economic times, I could find something to wear from my closet. Or, I could do one of the above. Any suggestions?

I vote for the jewelry!! You'll have it forever, it will never get old, or not fit, or be out of fashion!!
Happy Bday!

Kettlebells  Ha.

Those suckers are expensive in general. Not a huge priority as I can sub with dumbbells in a lot of places, but I would like a set.

I vote for a new outfit to wear at your party. Make it a night, it is your night. I always feel really good in a new outfit.

That is a really good idea.. I don't have any but would like to get a set of kettlebells especially after all the results I am hearing.

From your list, I'd go for the jewelry.

My present was a pampering day at a fancy spa with my friend when I turned 40. It was heavenly!!!!

A beautiful piece of jewelry or SHOES!! Life if to short to wear ugly shoes. Maybe Sex & the City's Something Blue. You could wear those 10 years from now and they will still inspire ooohs's & aaaahhs. Happy Birthday to you.

LOL i actually would go with this. i am not a jewlery person but like somebody said you would have that forever and it would never outgrow or be out of style. to me i get clothes anytime b/c they are a "need". when my b-day rolls around i usually get the "wants"

LOL!! With all the talk on the boards, I may just have to check them out!! Actually, I would LOVE a set of dumbbells...

I vote for jewelry too. In fact, I bought myself new jewelry for every b'day until last year (now my money goes into my house). My ex bought me 1/4 carat diamond studs years ago from Whitehall, so each year I upgraded them by 1/2 carat. I stopped at 1.5 (thought any larger would be too obnoxious), & I wear them just about every day!

My second choice would be the purse. Something else you'd use pretty much every day. I mean, if you're gonna splurge it should be on something you'd get a lot of use from!

Not a fun choice for me

I'd pay off the credit card - I'm working hard to do just that instead of adding to a balance. I'll feel SO much better when it's done, that's for sure.

Happy 40th!

Botox . . oh crap - sorry that wasn't on the list but that would be my choice as I am much older than you!! Or some new makeup to color the face with!

Seriously - I think Jeans then Jewelry.

Enjoy your day!!

I'm a jewelry fan myself. If you decide to look for a special piece of jewelry, check out Overstock.com. I've gotten some very nice pieces there, and for great prices. I always read reviews by other shoppers, if the item has them, to check out quality. So far, I've not been disappointed.

Whatever you decide, have fun with it!

I would have to go for the shoes. But, I'm a total shoe freak. And, I agree with the above posters who say get all of it. Life's too short.

I'd have to agree with Cakebaker. Not a fun choice either but we also are cutting back on everything to pay off CC bills. We don't live extravagant lives but the bills just kept creeping up until we knew we had to do something.

Other than the CC bills I'd go with the jewelry.
