First, it took us 1/2 hour to go 7 miles on an unpaved road. UGH!
We arrived exactly at high noon as described by invitation. We recognized a few faces who were just as freezing cold as we were. It was about 32 degrees with some sun at noon. The ceremony didn't start until 1 pm. By that time, DH and I were chilled to the bone. Finally the bride walked in and the vows were exchanged. Immediately following the vows, the redneck extravaganza began...
Someone started lighting M-80s in the woods all around us;all the while making hoots and hollers from behind the thick brush. I looked at my DH in literal awe. We graciously thanked and congratulated the couple. They invited us to stay for lunch and we reluctantly accepted. We honestly did not want to be mean; they are sweet people. They served pork ribs, salad, potatoes and homemade root beer. It was very good. While we were eating, it actually began to snow. I looked around in disbelief. Nobody was phased. I think that there were schnaps shots somewhere...
All in all, it could have been worse. DH and I smelled like campfire and took the longest bath in history in the jet tub. I think God was trying to give us some alone time. This year has been hard with two sick animals. The wedding gave us some much needed comic relief! ;)
