I got a villaware ice cream maker for mothers day, i tried to make fat free sugar free ice cream with no success, it tasted lame, hahaha, maybe any of you without being so complicated have an idea of frozen yogurt, sherbet or ice cream to make of course it would be great to get something guilt free.

The older I get the more I love me.

I have a Cuisinart 1 1/2 quart ice cream maker and love it. I pretty much just do the decadent, full fat stuff in it }( }( , but here are a couple of recipes that are in the book that came with it.

Lime Sherbet (31% fat, 61 cal, 2 g. fat)
3 cups whole milk
1 cup limeade concentrate, thawed
3 tablespoons sugar
drops of green food coloring (optional)

Combine milk, limeade concentrate and sugar in a blender or food processor to mix. Then process in ice cream maker as directed.

To make orange sherbet, sub limeade for 1-1/4 cups o.j. concentrate and decrease sugar to 2 tablespoons.

Fresh Strawberry Sorbet (2% cal from fat, 96 cal, trace amount of fat)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup corn syrup
1 quart fresh strawberries, stemmed, quartered
4 tablespoons lemon or lime juice

Bring sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer until sugar is dissolved. Let cool completely.

Combine berries and juice in a food processor and process until pureed. Press through a strainer to remove seeds. Combine with the cooled sugar/water mixture. Chill for 1 hour.

Process in ice cream maker as directed. It will have a "soft serve" texture when done. Transfer to an airtight container and "ripen" in the freezer for about 2 hours.

Have fun!!

Ick! Ice cream is not menat to be guilt free! Ice cream is frozen cream and it's rich and decadent! LOL! On a day when you might indulge in a homemade ice cream treat, eat more lightly in yor regualr diet and enjoy! I refuse to give up butter, sour cream, cheese abut I at them in very small portions. Guilt is not an option. Okay, guilt can be squelched. ;) Enjoy your ice cream. Skip lunch!

My DH came home with one that you turn. I have tried several recipes to make a lowfat version and they did not come out well. It seems sugar free is not an option with these. I guess that is why the companies use all of the additives to keep them looking like ice cream:) I have a recipe that uses carbonated beverages that could be good. I have not tried this one. When I make ice cream it is my grandmothers recipe and has loads of fat and sugar in it.
