I swore at Cathe

LadyUnix

Cathlete
Yes, I did. I'm not gracious at all when I'm in sharp pain and as stepping down, I heard a crack and found myself crumpled on the floor. Couldn't move. Said some not-nice-things to Cathe as she chattered away....anyone else can't stand to hear anyone talking when you're in sudden pain?...dragged myself to the TV controls and stopped the DVD.

I broke my ankle. Just got back from Urgent Care, and to the orthopedics at 4:00 pm. Doctor said it'll be 6 weeks before I can exercise again. Of course I'm very bummed about that. Just starting getting into a routine...and it's literally smashed. I know I'm not the only one who this has happened to, though.

Phoooeeey.

Ouch! I send speedy recovery vibes your way. Of course, you can still do upper body work :7 :7 hardy har har

Oh my goodness!!! You poor thing! :( What type of exercise were you doing? I'm always worried about twisting something, but never thought you could actually break something doing one of these workouts.

I'm so sorry! I hope they gave you some major pain killers.

I hope you weren't home alone or alone with kids! Although if that had happened to me, I'd be swearing at my dh...everything would be his fault. Don't worry about being gracious. My goodness, the pain you must have been in! I don't have to be in any pain or break a bone to talk back to Cathe.

Do you remember how it happened? Did you slip off the step? How long were you working out when this happened? Was it a new w/o? Maybe, we can learn from your accident.

Blessings for a safe recovery!

I am very sorry to hear about the injury!! No, you aren't the only one who uses colorful language when hurting, I wouldn't worry about it and I really don't think Cathe took it personally!;-)

Oh my goodness! You just posted about how busy your life is. Will the broken ankle keep you from working? How awful. Sending you lots of get well soon wishes,
Nancy

I am so sorry to hear this! well just take it easy and know Cathe will be there waiting for you when you are recovered. I took a new step class yesterday and they all told me to take down the riser I said do you know who I have as an instructor Cathe Friedrich there will be no taking down risers. When I saw the step they use it is so narrow I could barely put both feet when you are sideways on the board doing a t-step I skimmed the side and thought I was going to break something I was wondering if It would be rude of me to bring my own step to class. Anyhow, take care.

Sorry for your injury. A few years ago, a few days before Christmas I was in a step class in a local gym. The instructor called "reverse turn, straddle" and as I attempted to do it I slipped and fell. I heard my ankle snap . I quickly got up and felt my ankle throb. The instructor yelled out, " Are you all right?" and kept right on going with the class. I managed to hobble out on my own and got to the car. My ankle looked like I had a golf ball on it. The next day I had a walking cast on it in red for Christmas! It took about 6 weeks for it to heal and another 2 weeks to move around again! Good luck!

Thanks for your thoughts everone. :)

Ellen! I can't believe you did the same and were able to finish the class! Wow! I couldn't move for a long time afterwards..couldn't even get up.

To answer other questions...I was just in the first cardio segment of Cardio and Weights, 2 risers. It was the part where you hop on the step, run, run, then step down. I tend to hop down. Hehe. Bad me!
So, it was basic, and not new to me, and...I don't quite remember if that was a step down or a hop down...but...

I do know I was extrememly preoccupied and worried while doing it, waiting to see if my bf would make it back in the country , through immigration because they gave him troubles last time, and it was getting late and I still had not heard from him. Last time they almost sent him back on a plane to England, but phone calls were made.... I was thinking of anything else but the workout I was doing.

Also, I don't have "good ankles". It splayed out, while landing, as it often does, and this time it happened too fast or I just couldn't recover. I tried asking the orthopedic about this...this often happens when I walk or run or step down...but he was not interested in listening to me or my history or concerns. He did mention that some people's feet turn out or some people have flat feet (which I do).

It was certainly NOT the step itself. Neither of the risers had shifted. It's still quite intact, on my living room floor. :)
So...hopefully all of you needn't worry. But, thinking about it, I suppose many people sprain, and maybe even break ankles, by misstepping off decks, stairs, etc...Oh well.

It'll be 8 weeks, so I hear, before I can be back at it. Although hopefully, next week, I'll be mobile enough to work on my upper body. Which...happy coincidence...needs it. And some ab work, too, hopefull. Which....also happy coincidence...needs it.

Cheers!
(not that I'm anything close to cheerful right now, I'm having such a pity party!!!)

:( :( That stinks! Best wishes for a speedy recovery! :)

I have to tell you though...I have sworn at Cathe or asked her random questions like "Are you insane?" many a time during my workouts! Now that I am an instructor, when my students do it, I take it as a compliment! ;)

OMG, that's just awful! (not the swearing at Cathe part--I do it all the time) Take it easy over the next 6 weeks--seriously, b/c if you don't you'll end up out of commission even longer.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!
