I really was going to go to work today

I got up, it was snowing. I hurried myself out the door and spent an hour to go 5 miles. I decided I had had enough and turned around, and here I am. It is snowing like crazy. I swear I am moving to Arizona. I work about 30 miles from home and just didn't have it in me today for another 3-4 hour commute. Plus, its supposed to stop this afternoon and then start again for the evening rush hour, which then is another 3 hours. 6 or 7 hours of driving for 8 hours of work - NOPE! I figure they'll live without me today. I have laundry in now, am off to do ShovelMax part 1, then some Coach Sean, and this afternoon will do ShovelMax part 2 - bonus burn. I just couldn't do it today. I will have a nice, quiet day to myself, DS is at school, DH is at work - probably will have to go plow. Its just me, the dog, and the cat. And the cat hangs out in the basement. Ahhhhhh.....

I can sooo relate.:p I used to live in a big city and just even the smallest bit of snow or even rain and that more than doubled an already long commute. I now live in a small city and only a 10 min drive to work and we got 20cm of snow yesterday and all I was thinking of was how grateful I am that my drive won't take any longer:p The other side of it was though no excuse for not being able to get to work or leave work early:( We're -35 celsius today though. I think I would rather have the warmer temp with snow then this deep freeze:(

I've lived in Michigan all my 48 years and don't remember a winter like this one. We're already over our average yearly snowfall. Thankfully, I stay home with the boys and rarely have to venture out when I don't want to. Our homeschool group has sledding planned for the day, but we're under an all day windchill advisory and getting up to 3 more inches, so we're staying home. I do get to shovel more, so that DH can get back in tonight when he comes home. Wonder how many of us are doing ShovelMax today.

So glad I'm home. I just caught the traffic report on the news and apparently there is a semi stalled in the middle lane of the interstate I take to work, and the whole thing is at a standstill. UGH!!! ShovelMax 1 is done, now I am off for 2nd laundry and CC.

We don't live too far from a really good sledding hill, and I would love to take DS after school, but its like 9* out, and I don't think its getting any warmer today. After the wind kicks in, that is just too cold. I have some chicken soup for lunch to keep me warm, and I think I may toss together some chili for dinner. That will hold well, so whenever DH gets home from plowing, he can eat and be warm, too.

Nan, you lucky girl you!! :D Excpet for the Shovel Max that sounds like a great day to me!! Unfortunately for me snow days bring more kids not quiet days alone.....:( Stay warm & safe. We are freezing our buns off here in New York. Below 0 temps the rest of the week!!! teeth chattering

Nan..I know how you feel. Let me know when you are moving to Arizona so I can hitch a ride with you. ;) I can not tell you how many times I've told DH that I can't handle another winter. I don't want to end up living in Michigan for the rest of my life! What can I do?? I love my DH and he loves his job. :( I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed though.

Enjoy your day and stay warm! :)

Where do you live? My DH and DS are traveling 4 hoursto find snow to snowmobile... We're in SE PA and have NADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Indianapolis and I made it in to work but it was ridiculous. It took waaaaayyyyy longer than it should have. We don't even have that much snow; just really backed up traffic. I got so bored in my car sitting in the stop and go traffic that I learned quite a bit about features on my Blackberry phone that I never knew it had! I guess it was good for that although I would rather have that hour of my life back to do other things.

Would you believe that we were -48C (with windchill) that is -54 F today. There are records being set all over here with this cold snap. No snow days for us, it doesn't snow when it's this cold. We never have snow days here but if it's -35 or less than the school buses don't run and parents have to drive kids. We live close enough to the school that the kids usually walk but I did take pity on them today and drove them the one block.

Um, I suppose I shouldn't mention that it's supposed to be 70 here in San Jose, today.

I did my dues however. I lived in central PA during one of the worst snowy winters in history. We had 140+ inches. I was driving a 1979 (it was 1993) station wagon (one of the last FULL sized ones) over mountain roads with a 1 year old baby. No traction, no weight in the back, and I slid everywhere. It was then that I said I would be happy to never see snow again. By 1995 I was in El Paso, Texas and loving the fact that it was 80 when the rest of the country was snow bound.

I will admit, though, that I think my kids have missed something by never knowing the thrill of a snow day.

Can you guess where I live? And not the cold part, either. ;) Keep in mind, though, that what you have in cold balances out with the heat. Don't let anyone kid you about the "dry heat." It's just plain hot! And when the monsoons hit in July-September it's no longer dry. Just humid and 110.

Brrrrrrrr. It's actually -12 here this morning. Here in Mid-Michigan it's pretty rare to get actual temps that cold. And hey were heading for a high of 5 today. LOL We're snug indoors, but the boys have dentist appts this morning, so out we'll go. Wonder if I'd look odd wearing my pink snowsuit to the dentist office. ;-)

Me too!

I openned my garage door this morning and it was snowing. It was only 11 degrees so even though it wasn't much it was freezing to the road instantly. There was about an inch accumulation. It came down so fast and unexpectedly the roads hadn't been treated. I went about a mile. Did a few donuts, not on purpose, put my car in the ditch, and proceeded to walk home. They closed school in our neighboring town, but not in my district. After a very cold walk home. We are sitting her sipping cocoa in front of the fire place. The only thing that stinks is that as soon as my hubby gets here we have to go figure out how to get the car out. Oh well, enjoy it while it lasts.
