I need your expertise please

I first of all want to say that I hope that you are feeling better and taking it easy. We all wish you the best.

My question is this. I am 31. I have been on LEXAPRO for about 3 years now. I KNOW that I gained weight because of it. At least 50 pounds. I am now in the process of getting off of it. Throughout the time that I was on it I exercised and watched what I ate. It was VERY frustrating. My doctor kept saying there has never been proof of a weight gain from LEXAPRO.

I know I am going on and on. My question is in your experience with coming in contact with people have you ever known anyone that this has happened to? After they went off an antidepressant and continued to follow a healthy diet did the weight come off? Or were they DOOMED? If there is anything that you have come into contact with about this and know I would really appreciate you sharing it with me. Thanks so very much for your time and efforts.

THANKS : )

antidepressants

HI,
I'm not Cathe, obviously but I have to reply.
I was on anti-depressants for 10 years and gained 70 pounds even though the Dr. said there was no proof bla bla bla.

I got off the anti-depressants, started exercising and changed my eating habits. I lost 75 pounds, gained much muscle, wear a size 5/6, sometimes a 4 and am thinking about body building competiions.

So yes, there is hope, you are not doomed. I started walking to replace the effect of the anti-depressant knowing that I'm predisposed to depression. Get off the drugs and get exercising and eating right and you'll be fit and firm before you know it. good luck

I was on Paxil for 10 years for migranes.
I put on the lbs. I never ent above 125.
I topped at 160. It took me 6 months of weaning to get off the crap.
I read that they get into your liver and cause something with weight gain.
I has taken me a year and a half to take off 16 lbs. I am happy though.I am getting more muscular and much, much firmer.
You may want to try a liver cleanse herb along with diet and exercise.
It can't hurt and may help.
Best wishes.
I know where you are coming from. It is depressing.
Keep trying. It will happen. Remember muscle weighs more than fat, so don't get discouraged.

Hi Velmakelley! While I can't say that I know anyone directly who has had this happen, I can say that I completely understand your frustration of doing all the right things and still having things not go as expected. Don't give up in your search for answers. And keep doing as your doing by asking others if they know anyone who has experienced what you are experiencing. You may find it interesting that many times you can learn a lot more valuable detail and gain much better insight into your situation from those who have actually experienced it. Information that supports what your doctors have told you but with a little more "hands on" value behind it. Good luck to you and I hope that anyone who has anything to share will do so. I don't know if you have already posted in the open discussion forum, but be sure to do so if you haven't.

Best wishes!

RE: antidepressants

I cannot tell you how much better you made me feel. I know that the weight is not going to come off EASY but at least it should come off. I am now at 242 pounds. I was heavy before but not this heavy. I also keep reading about how when you turn 30 you can kiss weight loss goodbye! I hope not! Thanks so much for taking the time to respond. Have a great weekend!

WOW! What a great workout space! That is great! You could open up your own gym and charge money! I really appreciate you responding. It was good to know that I was not the only one that this happened to. Have a great weekend!
