I need help [motivational]

I have been sooooo bad lately w/ my eating. {had foot surgery, can't really workout, bored silly stuck @ home] My eating is out of control and I need some motivation. Do any of you hang words of motivation or pictures on your frig? I was thinking a negative appearing picture might motivate me. I'd rather it not be of myself as it will just depress my ambition. Ideas please...

I would use only positive pictures and ideas to motivate. You sound down on yourself. It is so easy to do. Being positive is the first part of the challenge. You've had a difficult experience and criticizing yourself is not going to help motivate that part of you that is clinging to food for support.

I would begin thinking of yourself as already having the strong healthy body you want. Joe Vitale suggests photoshopping your head onto your ideal body and begin seeing yourself that way. (I have not tried this because I'm sure my family will snicker- But I do spend time visualising my body differently. When I'm doing a Cathe workout I pretend that my tv is a mirror!)
Telling yourself you are weak, fat, bad etc. will never help you- even if you think it is true- that is no way to motivate change.

Why not try to do some upper body weight work? Whatever you can do is better than nothing, and making an effort will help improve your self esteem and be good for your body.

Listen to your 'self-talk' and kindly, gently rephrase anything negetive you may be telling yourself about you.

Hang in there!

I know once I heal I'll be back to working out hard. I just need to control the food intake. I am eating way too much. I was more able to get away w/ it when I was moving. But, moving or not my body just doesn't require as much as I am eating. It's unhealthy. I thought maybe a motivational message on the frig would keep me from putting off the inevitable. Which I have been doing long enough.

Something I've been doing that helps me is to look at nice pictures of HEALTHY food from cookbooks and diet books (like Tosca Reno's Eating Clean). That stimulates my appetite for good foods, like a picture of beautiful red grapes, green apples, watermelon, lean chicken, etc. I am a visual person so if I see something that looks good, then that is what I will crave.

Years ago, I had an injury that seriously curbed my workouts; unfortunately, *I* didn't curb my eating and I fell into a cycle of bad habits which resulted in weight gain and misery. Since you can't exercise right now, you're gonna *have* to be very strong about your intake & getting it under control.

I agree that putting up either pictures of yourself at your fittest or pictures of other women who are fit would be an excellent, positive motivator on the fridge and/or mirrors of the house.

Also, throw out all (or most) of the junk in your cabinets and stock up on healthy foods. Any time you want to eat something you know you shouldn't, make yourself drink a glass of water or eat a piece of fruit and wait 15 minutes before you indulge. Chances are, you won't be hungry anymore or at least you won't each as much. And keep coming back here - I find that being around (or reading about) folks who are concentrating on fitness and health helps me be more diligent about reaching my goals.

Good luck & hope you recover quickly!
