I need a gift idea before Friday!

My daughter has a private dance lesson once a week with an amazing teacher. My DD has learned so much in these lessons that she has graduated from Tap 1 to Tap 2.

Sadly, the last lesson with this teacher will be on Friday because she is moving out of the area on Saturday.

I'd like to show my appreciation by giving her a gift, but I'm stumped and time is running out. I just cannot think of anything that a 24 year old woman would like. I don't mind giving her a gift certificate, but I don't know what interests she has outside of dance.

There must be women here that are around her age and have ideas.

You don't have to be her age to have an idea though, so any and all of them will be greatly appreciated!

I think you should write her a note telling her what you just told us. That will mean more to her than any gift... and enclose a gift card, maybe one from a bank that can be used anywhere like a credit card. She will cherish your note forever and appreciate being able to buy whatever she wants or needs with the gift card.

I was going to suggest a gift certificate for Lululemon, most young women seem to like their merchandise. However, IMO Michele's idea is perfect.

As a teacher, I agree that a note means much more than a gift. If you do want to give a gift certificate, the most useful ones I have received are for Starbucks and ITunes.

I am a teacher and also agree that the personal thank you note from the heart telling how much you appreciate her is the best. I have been teaching for 17 years and have saved every note from parents and children.....LOVE THEM! Of course, GC are nice too!:)

ITA with Miss Lee...a meaningful note will tell her exactly what you've told us...how much her teaching means to you. If you want to include a GC, maybe a gas one? It's not fancy but it is practical.

Hi Elaine! Another teacher here (as you know), and I agree that a heartfelt note of appreciation is the most cherished gift you can give.

One past student gave me a beautiful desk clock which was engraved with a short message ("Thank you for inspiring me") and her initials. Whenever I look at it, I'm reminded of her, and this awesome responsibility and opportunity that we have as teachers to try to make a difference in others' lives. So, that was one of the especially meaningful ones.

But I agree, too, as was mentioned already above, that gift cards are an excellent and practical idea and are always much appreciated. My personal favorites are those to book stores or general bank cards.

i agree, nothing is better than receiving a letter. i've sometimes given philosophy bath gels in fun scents, my friends love them.

Thanks for the replies. A gift card with a nice note it will be. The reason she's leaving is because she will be attending grad school. She was accepted into the dance program at a prestigious school, which is quite expensive. Therefore, she is strapped for money.

One more question....is a cash gift card preferable to just cash? Would it be tacky to buy a money card and put a $100 bill in it or does a Visa money card seem more gifty?

Just from my experience with nephews that age -- she will flip over a $100 bill. ;) That is a thoughtful and generous gift!

Michele,

It might seem generous but it is just a small token of my appreciation for her. Saying she is an amazing teacher borders on being an understatement. Not only has she taught my DD so much technically, but she's also been an incredibly positive role model. My DD absolutely adores her and I really want to wish her well in her new journey.

As a side note....I don't know if it is the particular studio where my DD dances, but all of the girls who are on the Company competition team are incredibly mature for their ages, which are between 13 and 17 years old. Some of them teach classes while others student teach and so my DD interacts with them regularly. At 7 years old, my DD is on the youngest competition dance team and so she really looks up to these girls. I am thrilled that she has these wonderful girls as role models.
