I know this is probably TMI

Uggghhh!!! Never even thought about it, greenhouse gas!!!!

Forget the fibre, Catherine!!! Keep your 'roids and prevent global warming.

Thank you Catherine for starting this informative thread. I'm so glad to have access to this educated crowd.

I agree with fennel. I just pull it out of my spices and chew on a little. It works really well.

This might sound silly, but doesn't preparation H supposed to help? Oh, and when you are lifting, try this...if you are familiar with kegels, its kinda the same thing, squeeze your sphincter muscles in really tight with the exertion and your pelvic floor muscles..I know, I know, so gross, but I know for a fact it works...I used to leg press over 800 pounds when I was bodybuilding, and never had the 'roids cause I did this...OMG, I cannot believe I am posting this...I hope this makes sense to you guys...*blushes furiously*

Get seen by a doctor!!! My husband let his go for a year and finally had to have surgery. It was 12 weeks of hell. YES 12 WEEKS!!! And he is still not 100%.
Don't use too much of the prep H or other remedies (as my DH did) because it can make them WORSE.
High fiber diet, avoid constipation at all costs and don't strain. I am a nurse and have seen sooooo many people who let it go too long.
Good Luck

I agree with elliemom. Go see a doctor. My husband, too, suffered for years with excruciatingly painful hemmorhoids-they bled, etc. They really lessened his quality of life-we would have to leave places because one would bleed, or hurt so bad he couldn't take it, etc. He had a radical, painful surgery-PPH Stapler (and, yes, that's what it did-ouch!) 3 years ago that finally saved him. It took a long time, but now he's doing great. He's really vigilant about his butt now:)
Good luck!

Ok - I cannot believe I am about to share this info with you all, but here goes. Catherine -- PLEASE see a doc. Below is a passage I had sent to my walking buddies after I suffered with a 'roid for about 6 weeks. It brought on a yeast infection, UTI, and of course any extra-curriculars with DH were non-existent during this time. Butt (sorry, couldn't resist :p) here is why I say to see your doc. This was my info to them:

Read with caution.

Ok - just plain ouch! So I was moaning to you ladies last week about my yeast infection and UTI, both brought on my this annoying hemhorroid - YUCK!!!

Well, not getting better, I went back to the doc on Tuesday. Turns out this "roid" was now "thrombosed" -- do you know what that means? Well I sure didn't - nor did I know what to expect. Here's a lesson in butt care my walking buddies!

A thrombosed roid has developed a blood clot, so no blood can adequately circulate. Oh, my dear doc did surgery. Let's see, first he stuck a big 'ole q-tip of iodine up my butt. Then, a needle to (allegedly) "numb the area" Uh-huh. Next, a clamp pulled out the affected vein even more than it was already. He left the clamp in place and proceeded to slice said vein and "squeeze out" the blood clot, which was larger than a pea. OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!!!!!!!

That's it. He said to go home, be prepared to bleed for a few days, and go back on Thursday for a follow up. Ok - Thurs was even more painful than Tues as he pulled that vein BACK out to be sure there was no infection, which promptly started even more profuse bleeding. He advised that walking was still the best thing I could to, so yesterday I walked about 6.5 miles, but ya' know when you sweat -- how sweat has all that salt in it and the salty sweat comes in contact with a "open would"? I think I hit every planet in the solar system. I have NEVER had anything so painful. Damn.

So having said that and given you more info than I'm sure you bargained for about my butt, who's still on for walking next week - the 21st?

NOW Catherine -- make that appt!

If they're not serious, I would say just add a few more fruits and veggies to your daily diet. My body is used to lots of raw veggies, so I don't get too gassy anymore. In any event, I eat the most in the evening, so if I get gas, I'm at home ;). My guess is that if you see the doc, she'll have you start taking Metamucil. Instead of that, take Konsyl which is the same stuff without all the extra artificial junk in Metamucil.

Hi-

So sorry to hear you are suffering from the " 'roids". I have them too and I think once you have them, you always have to kind of deal with them. I got mine from a pretty grueling labor and delivery 7 years ago w/ my son.

I'm ITA with trying to eat a high fiber diet and avoiding constipation. That is totally key.

As far as weight training, I've never had an issue with mine flaring up and I lift pretty heavy esp. for lower body. However, I do run into problems when I'm doing alot of long distance running..for some reason the high impact and jarring just kind of makes them, uh, "pop out".

What I find helps me is that if I can feel it coming on, get to a bath tub and fill it with as hot of water as you can stand and sit in it for as long as you can. You will feel immediate relief and should keep the discomfort at bay.

If you can't get to a bath tub, those Tucks pads will work as well as Preparation H. But the bath tub trick really works the best IMO.

Good luck and I hope you find relief.. they are NO fun!
