I just ordered a heavy bag!

Ooooh I am so excited! Hitting the heavy bag is probably the most difficult cardio workout I've ever done--even tougher than running!--and I'm gonna have one of my own! WHOO HOOOOOOOO!

The best deal I could find was on Amazon. I got it for $96 & free shipping. I'm picking up gloves & wraps from Dick's, they have a cool pair of women's fingerless gloves for about $20.

Kettlebells are next. I think in 2009.

Cool Laura. How did you install it? I really want one but installation seems tough. Do you have any videos to go with it. Man, I'm so jealous of people who have workout rooms. I have to workout in my living room and set up everyday.

Go Laura, Go!!

....although, I've never been tempted by one. I just can't get into the whole punching thing. But I know you'll have fun, and you'll be great at it with those arms of yours!

Oh Shannon...you need to try it just once. I don't know if I am a closet boxer but it feels so good to punch one of these....

I think I might be ready for a REAL punching bag with a face taped to it!

:) :) :)

I hope Laura realizes that I was just teasing Shannon! :)

I agree - punching and/or kicking a heavy bag is a great workout! Our Dojo purchases new equipment every year so I was fortunate to buy a gently used standing bag for $100. It's a better quality than what I've seen in discount and sporting goods stores plus I didn't have to pay shipping. :)

I want to try it using the drills in Cardio Kicks (just the punches - not the kicks).

Anyone have any good workouts for the heavy bag? DH has a heavy bag, and we've got an old Tae Bo workout for it which isn't bad, but we're definitely interested in more. Any videos that anyone has used?

Definitely a great stress reliever!

Ooooh, Laura, I'm so jealous. I really want a heavy bag but I'm not sure where I'd keep it. Well, heck, I'd probably shove it in a corner somewhere like I do half my workout stuff.

Jodi - One workout I do with the heavy bag is the focus paddle section of Janis Saffel's Kickbox Strike Zone. Instead of punching/kicking the air or a focus paddle, I punch and kick the bag. And since I don't do it with a partner, I do each side TWICE and get a double workout. I especially like doing the hook kick with a bag because without a target it feels like I'm not doing it right.

I think that looks totally cool! Oh, BTW, Laura- I don't think that you look too muscled in your photos from the RT.....I think that you look GREAT!!!!

Kick some a**, Laura! :D:D:D

I'm so jealous. I think that could be the magic ingredient to me being able to workout after a full day of work. There'd be quite a few "take that"s in there.

Hmm, I've never had the urge to kick something before. Crap Laura, now you've got me pricing them. :)

Kicking the bag

How do you like kicking the bag? Is it really tough? That's what I'm really interested in. Please keep us informed!

Besides Bento's Rumble, & Cathe's MMA (yeah I know, but I'm really hoping! :p), I'm really excited about using it for my own workouts. I plan to try 40-60 minutes of drills on it once or twice a week, basic stuff like jab/cross, front kick, side kick etc. Similar to Kenpo X, 25-50 reps per side. I'll let you know how it goes.

Slightly OT, I told my dad & he said "so I guess you're finally finished equipping your home gym?" Such a silly old man! :D

Laura~

I have this bag:

I bought it to help me prep for my black-belt test (which didn't happen due to injuries:()

I've use it while doing KPC and its a blast! I can't wait for MMA. I like to just crank up the music and punch and kick the bag. It is an awesome workout.

Enjoy it, Laura! I have a heavy bag hanging in my garage (now my gym....the car can get wet), and I love it. Just improvising on it you can get a great workout!

Laura,

I have a Century Original Wavemaste. I love mine. It is a very difficult workout. Very Challenging. Hey the black ones are just as great.
