I just built a free standing ballet bar!

I'm so proud of myself! I designed it and had no help in building it at all. I must have saved at least a couple of hundred dollars. It's sturdy and mobile. I used my husbands old conduit pipes (I eyed them because they were 3" round and wouldn't hurt when you put your foot or leg onto it) and then went to Lowe's to get pvc connectors to put it all together.

Now I'm ready for Calanetics and The Bar Method. I like to do these kind of exercises when I have a week off from weight lifting. I start doing them tomorrow. I used a chair before, yuck!

I tried it out a little bit today, and it holds weight very well and it's comfortable.

Now to try and talk my hubby in joining me. :7 He was proud of me because he wowed! Made me feel good.

Great idea! I'll have to mention this to DH. I want a bar but don't want to pay for Fluidity. The Fluidity bar is expensive and I don't want the workouts. Right now I'm using a heavy high backed chair, but it sometimes tips on me.

I love my barre workouts. For my lower body I'm currently doing a rotation of Lotte, Squeeze and Bar Method and I'm proud to report that not a day goes by when these workouts don't leave me with DOMS. They're so effective!

lesliew,

I couldn't agree with you more about the domes. I also have "Squeeze" I forgot about that one. And of course "Lotte".

You have plenty of barre workout DVD's to warrant your husband in making you one. I hope he does. Then again, you can make one if he doesn't.

Enjoy your workouts,

Janie

Hey, if you think of it, could you download a picture of your barre in your picturetrail? Then I can see what you did.

TIA!

:) Hi Janie,

I'd love to see a pix of it also. I mentioned this to DH - hoping he'll get ambitious. I think a picture will help motivate him.
I have the original CALLENETICS video from many moons ago.

TIA,
Viki

Here is a picture of the ballet barre I made. Not the prettiest barre you have ever seen, but very doable and for me that's what counts. I think you could use it in some of the Fluidity video as well. It won't hold your whole weight, but it does great for everything else.

:) Hi Janie,

Thanks so much for the photo!!!It looks good to me.
I just printed it so I can hand it over to DH. Now I want a mirrored wall.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

:7 Have a great weekend.

Viki :7

P.S. Is there a standard height for these barres?
I'm 5'2" with short legs.

I would love a mirror wall! Ooooooo.

As I said earlier, we had 3" conduit and from there I cut into appropriate pieces, then bought at Lowe's pvc connectors as seen in the picture.

I made mine at midsection level, and about 5-6" above the belly. It is 5' long. For the feet, I cut (4) lengths at 12" long and used two "T" connectors. Then (4) ends to make the feet complete. I also cut (2) that were 36" for the sides and placed them on top of the "T:. Then got two elbow connectors to join the sides and the top. You really need a lot of punching on the ground with the connectors to get the pieces to fit. They are tight, but that's what you want.

For your height, I wouldn't make it 36". I would go lower, maybe 33" for you? Measure and see what height you like.

Let me know how yours turn out.
