I Hate Cardio - July 2nd

Hi Everyone (who is checking on the weekend) -

I am at work today so please post to keep me entertained! This morning I did a run/walk for about 45 min for 3 miles. I ran the first 15 min or so, and then didn't really feel like running the rest so walked it instead. I am just a little out of shape.

So I started on my new healthier diet. Yesterday at the grocery store we stocked up on some fruits and veggies, the main thing missing from my diet. My goal is to eat one fruit with breakfast, one fruit as a midmorning snack (I am always starving before lunch), trying for one or two veggies at lunch (easiest to do if I get a salad), and 2-3 veggies at dinner. My dinner plate will now consist of 1/2 veggies and 1/4 each of lean protein and whole grain starch. Usually it was about 1/2 starch and 1/4 of the others. I am also going to cut out any dessert for a while, as it has become more of a habit than something I truly enjoy. This should hopefully help with energy and losing the last couple pounds and fitting into my favorite jeans. Let me know if anyone has any other recommendations or if this doesn't look like a good idea for some reason.

How is everyone's weekend?

Wow, I wish I could eat this well. Eating is my downfall, it is just too enjoyable. You know I posted this morning and it didn't bother to stick. Weird. So, I was here, I swear I was. I did LowMax and stretched today. You know what, I have actually gained some flexibility with Cathe's stretch workout. Weird. Really weird. I have yet to gain anything positive from doing 4 to 5 hours of cardio per week. Now, don't tell me it is in my attitude. If that were the case, then I would have a great attitude watching television and eating peanut butter cups and getting that great bod. NOT the attitude. It has to be the pear thing. UGH.
Work out tomorrow all of you who don't do it oh the weekends. See, Diane is doing it!!!

Hi girls!

I've had a busy couple of days. DH and I did a lot of flinging and took a huge carload of crap to Goodwill. We've done some shopping, too. We got a new cordless phone (our old one broke:-( ) and some new gliding chairs for our patio. I would like to find a side table to go with the chair. I want one with a mosaic top but haven't found THE one yet. I just got home from the grocery store and we're getting ready to throw a couple of burgers and a few ears of corn on the grill. I have not done a work out but I'm starting fresh tomorrow. Right now I have a huge knot in my neck and a migraine headache to go with it, probably form all this heat and humidity. UGH! I hate this weather. Even with the AC on, the relative humidity inside our house is 75%.

Diane, your meal plan sounds great. It's actually really easy to get 5 or 6 servings of fruits and veggies a day. I keep airtight containers of fresh, cleaned and chopped veggies and fruits in the fridge at all times. I prep them when I bring them home, just like Rachel Ray suggests. At any given time I have celery sticks, baby carrots, bell pepper strips, cucumber spears, and radishes all cleaned and in airtight containers. I also keep melon balls and grapes on hand. I buy the baby lettuces in the plastic boxes and put handfuls on sandwiches for lunch, too. All this stuff is easy to grab and go. Another quick way to get in a veggie is to drink a small can of V8 juice...I often have one for breakfast or lunch. You'll see, once you make the effort it's really easy to up your fruit and veggie intake.

Kate, I love to eat too. It's our curse in life. You are so faithful to your cardio, though. I think we should give you some kind of a reward, like a years worth of peanut butter cups or something:eek: }( :9 :7

Okay, DH is calling me for dinner (he grilled:) )

HI!

I'm home! :) :) :) I missed you guys. I've been trying to catch up with what's been going on with you all this past week.

Diane - your new way of healthy eating sounds great! It's wild that you can't seem to get in enough fruit. I'm actually trying to cut mine down! I'm now trying to only eat fruits in my first few meals. I could eat fruit all dang day.

Michele - Thanks for your bump on my semi-lunges thread. I didn't do a shred of exercise during my business trip unless you count shoveling in tons of yummy food from the plate to my mouth! :p }( :9 :* :7 Yup, I made the decision to give myself that time off from BFFM and exercise and not drive myself (and others ;) ) bonkers with ratios. I didn't feel guilty and I had a great time and I had a lot of rea---lly amazing food.

That being said, I woke up this morning and immediately did my first ever fasted HIIT :D :D :D LMAOLMAOLMAO!!!!!

Really. I felt I wanted to kick my @ss into gear for the beginning of this week. It actually wasn't too horrible, though midway (I did the bootcamp cardio) I thought, "well, I ain't doin' this again." But I'm glad I did it. I'm going to see if I can get myself to do HIIT on my weight lifting days. Today is a fresh Monday here, and I'm starting in on my Upper Body Bliss rotation, so today is Gym back, shoulders, biceps. I'm still feeling some slight tension in my knee caps when I kneel down, so I'm going to stick with floor work and L&G for them (though come to think of it, there's quite a bit of squating for kickboxing x( ).

Anyway, it's good to catch up with you guys!

Hey Dana - You ROCK! Good for you and your continued loss!

P.S. Kate, I would kill for bone-straight hair.

No you would not want bone straight hair. I swear!!!!
I ordered a new range from Home Depot today. Bought a Maytag this time. I want something I can count on.
Michele, move to Sacramento. Very low humidity. Really high taxes though and alot of liberal bull........but one must pay for good weather, I guess.

AL GREEN RULES, HAS ALWAYS RULED AND ALWAYS WILL RULE. Al Green's voice is like all the best benefits of cardio without the boredom and work.

Hi Ladies -

I have always been bad at eating fruits and veggies. I didn't grow up eating anything fresh in my parents house (it is amazing I am not 350 pounds with the food I grew up on), so it is actually weird to incorporate them. I am still figuring out which ones I like the taste of and how to prepare them, if you can believe that. I look around the produce aisle and don't even know what to do with most of that stuff. I am trying to decide whether to buy a minifridge for my office at work so that I can store some stuff for the week and have fresh snacks at work, like hummus and cut up veggies and cottage cheese. For now, I am just going to take portable things that don't need refrigeration, like apples, bananas, oranges... I don't really know of others (any ideas?). I am also trying to just eat fruit in the morning.

I know this is crazy, but before I met my DH, I would go to a restaurant and think to myself, what would taste the best. He couldn't believe it when I told him that, because he always tries to go for something healthy. Since I have always been very active and was still young, this didn't matter. Now it shows up if I eat too much junk for a few days and I can't fit into my clothes. So I started eating better over the past couple years, but not really clean and maintained weight. So now I am trying to slowly change my habits to eat better. I guess good habits can't come overnight, so I am just concentrating right now on adding the fruits and veggies, cutting out dessert, and then make some more changes after that.

August - I have GS Back Bis and Shoulders on the Monday schedule too. Starting a new rotation this month, and Gym Style muscle building one. Bootcamp cardio, that is a tough one for me.

Michele - Sorry about the back and headache problems. I used to get tension headaches all the time from tight muscles in my back. A good massage usually made them go away. I actually had to get physical therapy to correct a muscle imbalance in my back muscles that was causing it because they were so bad.

Kate - I want bone straight hair too. I bet you don't have to spend that much time fixing it!
