I Hate Cardio - Aug 2

August

Cathlete
EEEK! I'M FOAMING AT THE MOUTH!!

:p :p :p

Nah, just kidding. I spread on a lot of hot sauce on the Chicken de Soap so I'm thinking that'll kill anything that's not supposed to be in my stomach. So far I'm okay (bubble bubble bubble).

I did my S&H tris and bis, and what with y'all ranting about buying this and that workout, I went on a frenzy reading up on various workouts I now want to buy. }( I made a mongo list.

Gin Miller (Simply Endurance, Build Up Your Muscles), Bodybar (Ready Set Superset, Strength and Conditioning) , a bunch of Cathe (step  no need to list these since you guys have told me lots about those and I took notes :) ), the 2 new Jari Loves, Tracie Long (Endurance for Movement, Better Burn), Jen Carmen (Strength in Movement), Will Power and Grace........any of you guys thinking yay or nay?

What's on everyone's plate on this lovely day?

P.S. Hey, Kate, I thought it was really cute that you started up the Pushups thread again!

August - Let me know what you think of the TLT workouts, I have been interested in those. Also interested in the Jari Loves.

Hi all!

August, I'm not familiar with anything you bought except for the TLT's. I have all of those and have only used them once. Don't get me wrong, I think they're good and I suspect I'll use them at some point, it's just that I've been concentrating on cardio and mostly Cathe. Please list the Cathe DVD's you bought. I'm still debating about what to order along with Lowmax. I can't seem to figure out how to focus my workouts. I wish, wish, WISH Cathe would create a solid intermediate rotation so then I could just order what I need to do it. Oh, I'm glad you're not blowing bubbles after your chicken--lol!

Diane, the TLT's are good. They're really different but I think they work your muscles in a very unique way. I thought they were tough, but like I said, I only did them once. How are things with the kitties? My kitty never did catch that mouse as far as I know.

Kate, I'm doing the Happy Dance for you with your pushups! I haven't done them in about 2 weeks but I was up to 12 in a row, I think.

Dana, Janjan--what's up, sistah's!! What did you decide about the kitty?

I'm supposed to do LIS today but I don't know. It's awfully uncomfortable, even in the air conditioning. I cannot wait for this heat to dissipate. I really can't take it--I'm just a wimp, I guess.

LOL. You guys must be sleepy! I wrote that I made a list of the workouts I WANT to buy! I was wondering if you guys would recommend getting or not getting any on that list!

The Cathe ones I'm thinking to get are the ones that are always always always in the rotations I want to try and end up substituting, yeah, you know, kickboxing. The ones I am thinking to get are....Low Impact Step (the one you guys thought might be boring LOL. Hey, wait, this is the one you always do, isn't it, Michele?), Basic Step & Body Fusion, Imax 2 & Cardio + Weights, and Lowmax (the one you guys thought was too choreographed for the challenged as myself). I'm kind of counting on doing Basic Step until I figure it out and I end up loving step. Because man, I really, really need to find some different kinds of cardio here.

So no mousey?

Oh yeah, and I'm also thinking about CTX and Cardio Kicks & Circuit Max.

Jeez, basically by then I'll have all of Cathe's workouts.

I hate working my upper body. Boring. I have let push-ups (now that I am such a studette) take over alot of that. Besides, I did upper body faithfully three times per week with heavy and zero results. I can't just have an upper body day either, feels like I burn 20 calories.
I had the TLT's too. I hated them. They really didn't do much for me and a couple of them are circuit and I just don't go for circuit workouts. I don't get BootCamp. I have tried Bootcamp mixes and even then I don't care for it. I don't like Legs and Glutes either, so that should tell you something. I do like P90x. I realize that many don't like the lower body workout, but I think it is great. Those wall squats are very painful.

I dropped my younger daughter out of ice-skating. She didn't "love" it ab=nd I got so sick of swimming, Ice-skating, sewing and piano lessons every week. Burn-out. I feel almost as overwhelmed as Diane with all that law office responsibility, but I don't have youth or bainage to study for all that work. Maybe she can take it up later. So Ronne (Veronica) is down to swimming and Piano and Jillian is down to sewing and piano lessons. Sewing lessons tonight!

The heat is over, it is down to low 90's. I guess the heat has traveled to the midwest (guessing Ohio is in that). My friend in North Michigan says that it is in the 100's and that is unheard of there. No air conditioning or swamp cooling.

Okay, Diane, Project Runway is on tonight. Don't forget. This is very important. I am hooked, I tell you, HOOKED.

On to GS Legs today. Ab Ripper and maybe a long stretch. Get ready and go!
Kate

Hey August!

Okay, like I said, I'm not familiar with anything you're looking at except the TLT's. Those are good but they are hard!

As for Cathe step workouts, I've been doing LIS and so far I don't find it boring. It's hard for me so maybe that's why. I have a hard time with things like lunging around the step. It took me a long time to master that move and I still can't do it with the little hop Cathe inserts--UGH! Basic Step and Body Fusion will prepare you for LIS, which will prepare you for C&W. I'm sure these DVD's are boring for the more advanced exerciser, but if you're a beginner or intermediate, you'll be glad you started with these, IMHO. Remember when I was doing BSBF, how I was frustrated because I couldn't get through it, I couldn't master the pivots and knee ups around the step? I'm a klutz in the truest sense of the word and severly challenged when it come to choreography--lol!

I haven't tried C&W yet. I was planning to start with it Friday. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm going to order Lowmax and Kickmax, I think, along with the Pure Strength DVD. I'm also going to get Coremax and Stretchmax. There, I've finally made a decision and now I can quit tormenting myself over what to buy--lol!

So Kate, being that you hate Bootcamp and Legs&Glutes, and I love both of those, and you hate working out your upper body, and I love working out my upper body...I'm going to guess that I'll like the TLTs LOL. That sucks that you've been lifting heavy for your upper work and haven't seen any results. Maybe you need more time? Wow, sewing lessons? I didn't know there was such an after school class available. Now there's something useful (coming from a girl who can't stitch worth a green bean).

Michele - I remember you going nuts with the pivots. I'd forgotten that that was Basic Step. I'm sure it won't be boring for me since I'm a total beginner with step (well, except for halfway doing Bodymax) It turns out that I'll be making a quick trip to the States at the end of the month, so I thought I'd take advantage of the free shipping. Or at least I think it's free shipping if the purchase is over $99, isn't it?

Well, I've learned something about myself. A 40p/40c/20f macronutrient ratio split does not do it for me. The only thing it does, in fact, is give me major hankorings for sweets and ultimately drives me to eat loads of peanut butter, and that is not a good thing. I had that under control when I was eating 30p/50c/20f. I think it also might have a bit to do with my substituting veggies for the small piece of fruit I had been eating at lunch. Who'd have known that small change would have such an impact.

On that fascinating note...;)

P.S. Oh, Diane, the photo of the kitty was really cute!

Have to be quick today, short on time.

How is everyone?

Kate-just did ab ripperx and I liked it. With the knee I have a hard time getting my leg up in the air so some of it was a little diff, but I liked it for the most part. What do you think? I have to admit I have not been watching Project Runway, I need to catch up. I am a very big Astros (baseball) fan so I always have the game on when they are playing, tends to conflict. And there are times when I am at the games so I miss a lot of TV. If they do a marathon let me know. I have been a PR slacker this time! haha!

Michele-Ok, I have to ask did you get any of the GS series?? I swear by that series. I love it! Cathe is wonderful in that series. I love all the cathe's strength stuff, but GS by far is my fav. I do want to hear all about C&W when you try it.

Diane-I am overly ticked off at my hair dresser. He is so flaky and never wants to work on Sat. He is all the way downtown so I drive a long way to go and see him and now he has decided to take off the next 2 Sat's and I am in major need of some blonde. Can you believe! Ahhh...ok had to vent, knew you could feel my pain on that one.
How are the sweet kitties?? Have the come into bed at night with you guys yet?

August-I needed magic green beans last night, I was up at 3:30 and could not go back to sleep. I am out of it today. Soooo tired....

Ok I am off. Busy, busy, busy day today.

BBL to check in!

Hey, Jana,

So I read like all the posts on P90X and got totally interested in it.

So what do you think. Is Tony annoying? I have sensitivity problems so that's a worry factor for me.

Oh man, sleepless nights and out of green beans. Not a good combo. Actually, I'm out myself, so I'm hoping the extra serving of peanut butter will do the trick.

Hi Everyone -

August - Totally misunderstood your question. I don't have any of those videos, but I have definitely read reviews on all of them. If you like to life heavy weights, TLTs might not be for you. But if you like functional fitness stuff (which I do), they you should try them. Have you tried the first Jari Love dvd? You can get it for so cheap now you might try that first to see if you like her style. I think I remember Simply Endurance having mixed reviews on collage, I could be wrong (why do I know this much about videos I don't own???).

Kate - So excited about Project Runway tonight. Even DH is excited to see someone get kicked off (though he told me not to tell anyone that).

Michele - I will definitely have to send my kittens to your house, they will catch it for sure. They have been acting very rambunctious lately, running around the house chasing each other and basically freaking out on the toys. I'm sure they would catch a real mouse in no time.

Jana - I hate that about the hair appointments. You could call my girl, Pam Flores at Ell Salon in the Galleria area. She does a pretty good job and is very inexpensive. I was going to Cut Loose in Montrose but the prices got higher and I was paying way way too much for a hair cut, and way way way too much for highlights. Pam does regular highlights for $75 and $90 with low lights I think. That is less than 1/2 the price of my previous girl. The place is not as upscale, not a "spa" feel, but she does a good job and is cheap. I get my hair cut by John Flores there too.

Kittens have not even come close to hoping in bed with us, and have only hoped in the couch with me a couple of time for 5 seconds. DH and I last night were talking about how we were a little disappointed just because Lucy crawled in our laps from the very beginning and these kittens are much more independent and mostly want to play with each other and explore the house. Lucy may have just been feeling sick and that is why she wasn't so energetic, but we do miss having a kitten in our laps while we watch tv. It is hard not to compare, and Lucy was really more like a dog than a normal kitten. Hopefully the new girls will come around soon.

August, just to clarify, it's Body Fusion that gave me fits but it's on the same DVD with BAsic Step. I like Basic Step but that's because it's easy for me now and I can do it all the way through without modifications. I use it now when I've missed workouts and I want to start back slowly. I admire your tenacity with this diet stuff. There is no way I could spend that much effort trying to figure out my PCF ratios. I just use the old tried and true format of making sure my veggies take up the biggest part of my plate and that my meat portions are about the size of the palm of my hand--lol!

Janjan, I think I'm going to order Pure Strength for now and get the Gym Styles DVD's later. I haven't done heavy lifting in a long time so I want to go with something easier to start with. I used to lift very heavy but I need time to work up to that again. Believe it or not, I used to be able to bench press 90#'s, and 75# or 80# on an incline. How about that kitty? Are you getting Cosmo?

Kate--good for you. Have a slice of pizza for me, just make sure there are no disgusting anchivies on my slice--lol!

Diane, too funny about knowing so much about workouts you don't own. I totally know how that is...I spend waaaaay too much time reading reviews and stuff over at Collage.

Actually, I do have the first Jari Love video and like it. I got it before I got Cathe and haven't actually done it since I got into Cathe.

Thanks for the heads up about lifting heavy and the lack of it in TNT. I do love to lift heavy, but guess I should get a good mixture. Although I notice now when I do pilates I feel like "am I actually doing anything here?!" I guess it's just fun to watch muscles grow and I don't seem to really get that doing light stuff. But I'm contradicting myself now, so I'll just shut up :) .

As you can imagine, cats have different personalities and styles so.......it's hard to say how it will go, but maybe they'll be more receptive after they've tired of exploring the house...and when it gets cold and they want to snuggle. ;)

Diane, your kitties will likely come around as they mature. That's what mine did. Also, cats like companionship and since Lucy was a lone kitty, she probably looked to you and DH for that. My kittens played hard all day long but eventually, and when it was time to sleep, they enjoyed cuddling together on our laps.

The other thing to consider here is that once you have a baby you'll be glad you have 2 cats who can entertain each other as you will be very busy with your baby.;)

Hi, Michele,

Thanks for the clarification. I know that Basic Step is going to be really important for me to do...heck, if I'm investing in a bunch of step workouts, you better believe that Basic Step is going to be majorly important LOL!

By the way, I've read that the Pure Strength series is the "old version" of Gym Styles, and on some threads I've read that you can use one for a substitution for the other. Would you not want to get the Gym ones (since they are newer) and just use lighter weights?

You used to press WHAT?! HOLY MOTHER!

As for the food thing - I can't tell you how shocked I am at how I'm really, really studying and figuring out my food intake. I've never, never, never done this before (started about oh, 9 months ago maybe?). I never dieted and I never watched what I ate ever in my life (I guess I've just been lucky that I've never been overweight before...though I've always been rather doughy ;) ). I literally used to eat several desserts every single day without even a thought. So the complete stopping of them is really near miraculous. I'm not even kidding.

And yet...my weight remains the same. x( Not a horrible thing (I do feel less flubby), but you'd think there'd be a humongous change from switching ice cream, donuts and chocolate to string beans, barley and chicken breast!!

Michele - Very true about the baby thing, I will be glad that might not be trying to get in my lap with a baby in my lap too. And I know they will be more lap cats when they get older. And they are still getting used to the house, so they are either exploring or hiding most of the time when we let them out into the rest of the house. We let them roam the entire house today, instead of keeping them in the study, so that by the time we get home they will hopefully have their exploring done. We have been slowly introducing the entire house, and I think it is time for them to roam free (and take over the place). Hopefully my dining room curtain will stay intact today.

They like to be petted, but not for too long (I am greedy :) ). Sydney, the one we thought was so shy and timid, is actually the instigator of all their adventures around the house. She gets so hyped up and runs around like crazy. At least we know they are healthy with all that running around, Lucy never did that. And we haven't seen a sneeze yet, so hopefully that means they are safe and won't develop what Lucy had.

Geez! And just when I thought I made a decision August comes along and fills my head with doubt--lol! Well, maybe I should reconsider--again:7 .

It would find it very annoying indeed if I switched from eating ice cream, donuts, and chocolate to string beans, barley, and chicken and saw very little chinge in my weight. Oh! Wait a minute! That DID happen to me;( . What's up with that!?!?!?!?!? I know this for sure--we're not alone. It seems like a lot of posters here have experienced the same frustration. I KNOW I need to ^ my cardio. Well, okay, I know I could clean up my diet a little more, too, but for crying out loud! My happiness is dependent upon a little chocolate something something every day:eek: :p :7

Diane, I am soooo glad that Lucy had you and your DH. You gave her just what she needed, and she did the same for you. I'm getting a little teary eyed thinking about your Lucy. She reminds me of my Franky who died a couple of years ago. He had toxoplasmosis--it had been dormant since he was a kitten and it just came out of nowhere. He died within a few days of showing symptoms. We had to have our other cat tested right away and luckily, he was fine. This isn't something you see in indoor cats but the veterinary neurologist said this was something he probably contracted as a baby kitten. He was a stray--a barn cat, actually.

LMAOLMAO!!

Sorry, Michele, didn't mean to bring the Doubt Mouse to you ;-) .

(hmm, where IS that mousey?)

Yeah, what the heck is up with the change in foods from crappola to clean with no major body change? I mean, come on! The amazing, adaptable, irritating as heck wonderous body!

Dang good thing I like grean beans is all I can say. Though not more than chocolate, of course...but I do worship it from a safe distance.

Diane - I'd be totally all over those kittens, too. They'd be like, "Okay, get away from me now and let me roam!" That's great they are having such a blast searching around in your house!

Okay, it's done! I've placed my order and here's what I got:

- Lowmax
- Kickmax
- Stretchmax
- the GS

I'm happy with that. It only took me about 2 months to make up my mind--lol!
