I got to say goodbye

Through my tears I just have to share with you all how lucky I just was. I have a great aunt who lives in Florida - I'm in Ohio. You know how there are just some people you have a unique bond with? Well, Aunt Christine is one for me. Even though we're such a great distance apart we've always been close. Of all her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews - mine was the only wedding she came in for years ago. She's taken my kids under her strong protective wing and she is - and always has been - an amazing woman. She's now 85 and has been battling cancer for 3 years - at the beginning of which time they gave her 6 WEEKS to live! She's awesome. I got a call from her today - she's saying goodbye. The docs thought she'd go last night. She sat down on her bed to rest at 8:30 and said God told her there were some people she said had to say goodbye to. She awoke at 6:30 and saw the bright sunshine - not knowing if it was another day or the glory of Christ. She's still here and said she had 3 phone calls she just had to make. I talked with her for about an hour (as my kids were fighting and screaming somewhere in my house) and got to say goodbye. What a great blessing I just got - and had to share! ;(

Wow Lorrie, I think that's the saddest but most inspiring thing I've heard in a long time. My Nana was to me much like your aunt is to you--I was closer to her than my mother. I was so sorry she passed when I was in VA at college, but I still feel like she's with me every day looking out for me.

Your Aunt Christine will always be with you, thanks to the connection she had with you and your kids.

Oh Lorrie -
You are truly blessed to have had someone like that in your life and to have been able to say goodbye. What a very special person she is. Thank you for sharing your story.

My heart goes out to you and your family. That is such a blessing that you were able to say goodbye to her. I didn't make it in time to say goodbye to my sister but I know she is always looking after me. I wish you and your aunt peace and my prayers are with you.

So bittersweet Lorrie, sad and beautiful. Your Great Aunt Christine sounds like a woman of ample grace, faith and wisdom. You have been so blessed to have had each other. It's heartwrenching to lose someone you have such a bond with, thankfully, the love remains. Her essence will always be a part of you.

Take Care

Lorrie, what a beautiful thing! Thank you for sharing your story and please know that you and your family are in my prayers. Your aunt sounds like a very special person and it's quite a testament to you that she wanted to spend some of her last remaining moments on earth with you.

It is sad when our loved ones leave this world, but you are truly blessed. I wish I would've had the oportunity to say goodbye to many people that have passed away. Thank you for sharing your story. *Hugs*

Lorrie...what a very touching story. Aunt Christine sounds like she was a wonderful part of your life. I am glad you got to say goodbye....and thank you for sharing...:)

You are so fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with your Aunt. It is so touching that she called you. It sounds like you were one of her "chosen" phone calls. You, no doubt, were special to her, too!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and her.

What a wonderful story. You are blessed to have such a wonderful aunt and she will continue to guide you, she really really will.

How wonderful you were able to say goodbye as tough as it was.

Good thoughts, hugs, and prayers coming your way.
