I Got Stood Up For My Interview!

I was hoping to come back here and report good news about my interview this morning except the unbelievable happened. Despite having a confirmed phone interview slot with a Mr. Lopez at 10:22 AM this morning, I was stood up by the interviewer. He never called me. I had everything prepared - proof of internet speed test, copy of job description, questions to ask, answers to questions that I might be asked and a copy of my resume. The only contact person I had was the lady who sent me the interview invite paperwork and I did let her know that I never got the interview call but I'm not sure if I'll even get a response.

I knew what I was getting into by reapplying with them. It was a toxic work environment, poor management and sweatshop like working conditions where you weren't even supposed to use the restroom until your scheduled break or lunchtime. I had the mindset that this was paid training and a steppingstone to something better in the insurance industry. So now, I'm back to square one and regrouping and figuring out what to do next. I've got other job applications out there but the competition is unreal. I've all but given up on applying for anything in healthcare with my CNA license because I don't think I could handle the stress of a nursing home right now and I'm unsure about home health as well because of the low pay and the fact that nobody wants to hire someone and train them. And the hospital jobs require experience and the competition is unreal. Yesterday I got an email from Linkedin with a job at Methodist hospital and 25 people had clicked apply just through Linkedin and another nursing assistant at a rehab hospital where I really wanted to work and there were 49 people who had applied through Linkedin.

Y’all won’t believe this! So I’d just gotten back from walking Luca and here’s an email from the recruiter who stood me up saying they were doing group interviews and I’d already missed one time slot. I raced into the office and waited on the Microsoft teams meeting but nobody let me in the meeting. I emailed the recruiter with my internet speed test results and told him I wanted to interview but couldn’t get into the meeting. After getting back from Walgreens getting my husbands cough meds, I got into the meeting and interviewed with another applicant. So I got a job offer but it’s contingent upon my eligibility for rehire with my former company which I’m unsure about because my last week of work I had a tech issue with my company issued computer and had to go over a few heads to get my final paycheck. Provided all goes through I’d be starting paid training on 3/31.

That's great forward progress!!
It’s the one and only glimmer of hope I’ve had. I couldn’t believe the competition for CNA healthcare jobs. I mean how do you narrow down a pool of at least 49 applicants for one opening?

When I was having trouble getting into the meeting my husband was like oh just let it go and forget about it and I said no this is opportunity that I can’t pass up and I’m going to at least try to get into this interview despite being stood up this morning.

don’t assume everyone applying for a job is sincerely wanting the job, or has the qualifications for the job. There are many reasons people apply for jobs. some of those reasons are kind of bizarre.
If you want into the field, send in your application and just focus on what you can offer the company. That is what you control.

Thank you! I’ve actually applied at Methodist and the computer system automatically eliminates you if you don’t have the required 6 months of patient care experience and I’ve applied to the other rehab hospital twice getting two rejection emails that they’re going with someone with more experience. It’s all computer applications these days, no more walking in and filling out something in person.

Just when I thought things might slowly be looking up, we found out today that foreclosure was filed on our house last week and it’s supposed to be auctioned off on April 1. We haven’t been formally served and my name isn’t on the mortgage as it’s a private loan but now we’re trying to figure out what to do. If I got this job, it’s 100% perfect attendance for the first 90 days and the house is supposed to sold the day after my training starts. Still no word if im eligible for rehire so I’ll have to follow up with the recruiter tomorrow morning.

My husband is trying to figure out a way to put if off for some time or even have some of his wealthy friends buy the house as an investment and then we pay then a small amount each month to stay here. He did find out that he can’t file chapter 13 like he originally thought. If I had a job money wouldn’t be so tight. But if he can’t formulate a plan to not lose the house because him getting a job is out of the question, then I would see about going to my mom and step dads. And that would be the end because losing the house has been my proverbial last straw on this marriage. One of my friends said that I’ve stayed longer and put up with way more than she would have. Luca is what’s kept me here and kept me going.

ashaw - so sorry to hear about all this. You have gone through a lot. Hoping a job comes your way soon.
People just apply for any job they see. Before our hiring freeze came about, I was looking for someone to help me (it was part administrative part finance). I tell you we had 30 applicants and not one had what I was looking for. We interviewed one because he was internal but nope, not hiring him. So just know because a lot of people apply, definitely doesn't mean they have the skills and/or knowledge.

I'm glad you have your mom and step-dad, I know it probably isn't what you want but at least you will have a roof over your head. I truly wish you the best and thanks for keeping us informed. I don't come to the forum but maybe once a week, and I always look for your updates, hoping and praying for some really good news.

God bless you for all you have gone through and still going through. Hugs!!

That is awesome news!! Good for you!!
My husband had a conversation with the brothers who hold the note on the house and they said they don’t want to throw us out, they want money. They also said they would feel more comfortable if the house was deeded back to them. So my husbands idea is to deed the house back to them, pay rent and have the option to buy in a year. Nothing is set in stone but at least they took his call and are open to trying to work things out. Provided they accept his offer, then I can relax and enjoy this time before I start work. Luca will be very happy I’m working at home. She can’t come in the office with me because she will bark at the window but i can play with her on my breaks and lunch time!!!
