I got ripped off!!

Grrrr.....I bought a barbell set at Sports Authority last night and I went to put it together tonight and they actually gave me the bar of one brand and the weights of another brand which would still work but there is.....NO COLLAR to hold the weights on!! I still did MM anyway, I just adapted the best I could with dumbbells. And to top it off, the bar had some kind of yucky GREASE on it which, as you know, is a BEAST to clean off!! BLECK!!!

PLUS, I can't find a high step ANYWHERE. Double GRRRRRR......

On the plus side, my girls are coming home in an hour....can't wait to see them!!

Hi Angie ~

I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS!! I would return the entire set to Sports Authority. Is there a Dick's Sporting Goods store in your area? I was at one today and they had high steps (the one w/ the ME VHS tape). I think it was $59.99. Good Luck.

Angie, I hope you return your barbell set. I got my high step from Oshman's. Do you have one near your place?

I couldn't find the right bar locally. I had to go to fitness1st.com to get a Troy Lite bar. They shipped pretty fast. It came in less than a week. My plates and clips I got from Wal-Mart. They all work pretty well.

take it straight back tomorrow for instant refund and let them know in no uncertain terms that their product was sub-standard and they have wasted your time.

Angie - what a bummer! I agree that you should take it back and get a refund or exchange immed.

Have you ever tried sliplocks? I ordered some online awhile back and they are amazing and sooooo much faster. It is just a little magentic thing that slides on and off so much faster than the regular collars. I am usually done changing my weights even before Cathe and crew.

Good luck!

Fitnut -

That sounds really cool. This is my first purchase of a barbell set so I'm still a little clueless about it all. Can you tell me what site you found your sliplocks?

Thanks!

Angie

I have to tell you that it doesn't sound to me as though you got ripped off but that you were not an involved consumer. I don't mean to sound harsh but where is your responsibility to have made sure that the boxes the weights came in where the same brand as the bar you were purchasing? I know that when I shopped for my bar at Sports Authority, I noticed several types of bars & weight plates. I made sure that I got the same brand bar and weights. The sales person was the one that put them on the flat cart to get them to the check out & to my car but I double checked his work.

Everyone makes mistakes & I'm sure the person assisting you had no intention of ripping you off.

Take them back to the store & get the right stuff.

I think they might have been in a hurry to get your pieces to you. You did pick this up right?

If so, you bring them back with the receipt and I'm sure there won't be a problem. The darn problem is in going back to the store. I hate that.

On the high step, do your search around the net. they can be bought in different places and for less money then you have anticipated.

Now you take a deep breath and go after your goal again.

Angie,
I can sympathize. Just take it back. I bought the collars that you squeeze at Academy sports for 2 dollars. I have a Weider barbell with screw on collars. I think these were an excellent investment. As far as a high step I had the bench so just ordered the top at www.fwonline.com I had it in 4 days. I do not know of anywhere here in Oklahoma where I could have bought a high step. You can still get a great workout with dumbbells:)

Sorry about your barbell. I don't have a barbell yet, I use dumbbells. I purchased my hi-step at walmart.com.

Thanks, ladies - I did research yesterday and Walmart.com was the cheapest I could find. I'll be ordering today.
