OK. I've been out of town, so I haven't been online. *gasp* Imagine that!

Carole, you rock! Before I got through this thread, I calculated how many miles this was & I was blown away. I know this is a common, everyday, been-there/done-that, sorta-thing for you, but this here girl is impressed!

Do you ever stop?!!!

Autumn and Marla...thanks for making me smile...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/_950/wink.gif[/img]..Even though Marla I have done this distance alot...:).. each run is a new experience and most likely why I keep doing it...or maybe some missing brain cells...http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/happy/happy0188.gif[/img]...Carole

Thanks Alicia...I have been following a 3 day a week running schedule, and doing one Imax and some other tough step workouts or circuits on the days I didn't run. I do feel even though I finished this distance without too much trouble I have lost alot of my speed, so now I'll be adding another day to my running week to see if that helps. So now I'll be running 4 days a week...:)...Carole

Carole -

A 30K is a half marathon right? I really need some help with my running. I participate in a sprint triathlon in the summer (1 mile swim, 10 mile bike and 4 mile run). The running is my worst event. I usually follow a 13 week program geared for all three events a few months before the race. But I think I should be doing alot more running during the winter to help my overall time. On a normal run my time is about 35 minutes, my last race run time was 42 minutes. I am so tired after all three events. I am not gaining the endurance with my current program. How much distance do you do on each run? Alicia

Alicia, no a half is 13.1 miles and a 30K is 18.6 miles. I would think if you do more running in the off tri season that should help you get stronger. I have never done a tri so I have no idea how to train for one. Are you doing any speed workouts with running? That is a good way to improve your times. For my runs during the week anywhere from 4-6 miles and my long run on sunday is 12-16. I will add that I have been doing marathon training for about 8 years so I have a good running base for distance events. Feel free to email me anytime...:)...Carole

Way to go Carole!! I've said it before, but I'll say it again - you are a real inspiration! Congrats to both you and your sister! What a wonderful way to spend time together!

Carole - thank you for writing back, I don't know how to email directley, I am a newbie. To answer your questions, I don't really do any speed workouts at all, usually I will do one tempo run, but that is about the extent of it. You are about the 3rd person to tell me, I need to do a LONG run. I am dreading it. I usually do 2-3 days of a 4 mile run, and I never go over. What distance to you increase each run? 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile? Can you recommend any good training books? Any imput is appeciated. Thank you so much. Alicia.

Thank you Dallas...:)

Alicia...you can click on the little icon in the top right corner in the post, its an envelope with al little note on top. That will send me an email. It does take some time to figure things out here!...there are a couple of sites I like www.runnersworld.com and www.coolrunning.com they have all kinds of info and I know Runner's World has a good forum for women, beginners, trail runners, etc. If you are looking for a book a couple of good authors are Hal Higdon and Jeff Galloway. A rule of thumb I always follow is not to increase your total weekly distance by more than 10%...:)...Carole
