I feel like I'm going crazy or something!

It's 10 days before October 1st when I'll be running the St. George marathon and I'm a freakin' nervous wreck. I can't get a full nights sleep and I can't eat much. My mind wanders and I find myself thinking about any number of things that can go wrong in my life. I think the problem is that I'm shooting for running a sub 4 hour marathon (4 hours 59 seconds max) and I know it's going to be close. I've even thought up a plan for the next year if I don't run the time I want this year.

We're leaving on Saturday to go camping at the Grand Canyon before we head over to Utah for the marathon. Hopefully it will be peaceful and relaxing and I can get the proper persepctive on this thing.

Aaaaargh! I seriously need help!!!! :7 :p ;( :D

Elaine, I totally give you permission to be nervous. I cannot even imagine running a marathon and think just attempting it is such an accomplishment in itself. You will do awesome and IF you don't get in under 4:59 it will still be a great feat. I will say a prayer for you to be able to sleep and eat to help fuel yourself for this enormous challenge. Have FUN camping and we can't wait to hear all about it!!!

I don't want to sound too kooky, but I use these relaxation CDs for sleeping before big athletic stuff. They "program" your body to relax itself, heal itself and get stronger by synching both sides of your brain. I really don't care about that, all I know is that I have no idea what happens after the first 5 minutes on the CD - I am in a dead, relaxing, wonderful sleep.

They are from a place called The Monroe Institue and the product is called Hemi Synch. I think the one I use is Deep 10 Relaxation. Some of the top adventure/mountain climbing athletes in the world use them.

They have some new sleep ones that I haven't tried - but don't buy more than one - they are all pretty much the same.

Good luck - it may be too late for this race, but keep it in mind for the future.

Use visualizations too. Imagine a very relaxed you sweeping victoriously over the finish line in 4 hours and 44 seconds, having come to the starting line, relaxed, blissed out and yet, so excited you beat your goal! You can do it! And do the above posted thains as well! "D
