I didn't know that...

Hi All,

Just wanted to thank all of you for the wonderful advice for exercise, diet, etc.. I've learned so many things. Too many to list!:) I'm making some changes to my diet. Before I started visiting the forums in Jan I thought that I had a pretty healthy diet. I've learned that I can do even better. "Eating clean" as you all put it. I've been incorporating even more weight days. Before I pretty much did cardio, abs, and stretching. I don't have any weight to lose, but we all can use some fine tuning, right?!;) Since visiting this forum I have realized how I can take my work outs to the next level. I'm not bored anymore and I can't wait to start my wo at 5A.

So, I was just wondering what's a thing or two that you have learned from any of the forums that has made a big difference for you?

I learned the purpose of doing and planning rotations. I always would pick and choose whatever I felt like for the day. Now, I plan for strength building, endurance, etc. for a period of time. Rotations also keep in check to make sure all workouts get done.

I've learned so much about clean eating and the fact that my diet was likely playing a huge part in why I wasn't seeing the results I was hoping for. I've also learned a lot about weight training (I was just strictly running for a time). You know, come to think of it, I usually learn something new every day from here.

I've learned to try new things. I'm a gym rat & for the longest time I thought the only way to get in great shape was by going to the gym. I've always used Cathe's cardio tapes but never ventured beyond that when it comes to home workouts.

I'll never stop lifting at the gym, but since I came here I've tried all kinds of new things I otherwise would have ignored. Core Max, pilates, yoga--all this stuff I now do at home. Stuff I might have tried at the gym if I didn't have to do it on someone else's schedule.

ETA: cool post. I'm looking forward to others' responses.

I've learned the power of positive reinforcement. A great time of weakness for me is during my planning period here at school. It's so easy to grab something out of the vending machine. By logging onto here, I'm motivated to stick to whatever's in my lunchbag.

Also, I've learned how important hidden ingredients are, such as hidden sugars in regular peanut butter and regular jelly. I've learned how to tweak my diet into one that looks clean, at least for the majority of the time.

I pick up tidbits here and there about foot pain, shoes, caring for injuries, etc. But I think the greatest thing that I have gained from this forum is that there are people dedicated to working out and taking care of their bodies just like I am! I don't have any friends that workout or care to, don't have any friends who care about food the way that I do except for one, and I do feel alone and like they don't understand why being fit is so important to me. Everyone here does. I don't feel like a food snob here or an outcast. We are here to work hard and we keep each other motivated. I love knowing that I am not doing this journey alone and I have seen from everyone's photos (thank you, Charlotte!) that I can curl 25# if I work hard enough. Thank you everone!

Interesting! See I'm learning even more stuff! I do hope others will give their input as well.

I have learned a lot about clean eating, rotations and a million fitness tidbits that are shared on these boards each and every day.

I've also learned that I share some of the same frustrations and personal achievements that only other fitness fanatics could appreciate or relate to.

I've learned that I am welcome here 24/7, on good days and bad days, and that I will always find support amongst my fellow Cathe-ites.

I've learned a lot about goal setting, rotations, rest days, recovery weeks, alternating high and low intensity. I've learned to pick through all the conflicting information out there and find out what works for me. I've learned to be patient, to just keep truckin' through plateaus and what seems like wasted effort. To not force myself into some semblance of progress just because everyone else is progressing. I've learned to take it slow when I need to, and to push myself hard when I know I can. To listen to my body and respect what it says.

Good thread. I have learned many things here and also confirmed many of my own thoughts. I guess the biggest learning for me is that the same workouts or eating habits do not work for everyone. One size does not fit all.

When I first came to Cathe I was not doing rotations. I just made sure I had a well balanced fitness routine each week, i.e. no back to back lifting, 1 interval workout, 1 yoga/pilates, 1 kickbox, etc... but doing what I felt like as far as the workout for the day. Then, after hearing all the praise of rotations, I tried working out that way for a year. Ya know what I found out... I got the same results (which are good) mixing up my workouts as I did doing them for 6-8 weeks and I didn't ever have to fight the boredom factor of repetitious workouts. Plus I was able to focus on certain areas for shorter durations and use more of my workouts.

So, long story here, but... as Cathe says, "Just some advice, take it or leave it." And that is what I do with all the wonderful info I get here.

Man I have learned so much from being at this forum in paticular. I learned even if you think it is a dumb question, there are other that don't. If you think know one is feeling the same way you are. There are others here that feel the same way. And if all else fails try a Mish Mosh. Karen

I've learned that I am not alone! It just seems like others don't understand my passion for fitness.

I learn something interesting everyday...

I have learned so many things on this forum. Among them:

- the benefits of doing rotations
- the difference between strength and endurance
- the benefits of doing interval cardio
- the importance of listening to my body
- how different types of training help different body types achieve goals
- the importance of setting goals
- that the best abs are made in the kitchen
- I could go on and on...

It's not so much what I've learned, as the motivation I've gained and the realization that I'm not the only mom of two little kids working full time and getting up at 5 am to work out because it is the only possible time. There are others hauling their butts out of bed too, so I can stop my complaining!

Before Cathe workouts and this forum, I NEVER was able to be consistent. Now I always am. Thanks everyone.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one too. I have never been so consistent in my life. You're right I do think of the others that get their booty's out of bed every early morning and I get up too!
