I can't get rid of my pooch!

I have been working out for 2+ months now and I just cannot get rid of my tummy. I do abs 3xs a week, but I think this is due to my diet. I generally eat oatmeal for breakfast, salads for lunch and some protein (fish steak or chicken) for dinner. But I have a weekness for breads and pasta. Any suggestions about my pooch?

There are many threads on this topic. It seems to come down to the fact that everyone is different. If you have fat over your tummy , it will take more than a few months to get rid of it, IMHO, ( unless you are Cathe!) Carbs can bloat you so watch out for that. I have been working out forever and have done Cathe religously for about 6 months. I am not there yet but have found that planks really help strengthen those abs. There is no easy answer. If you do a search on previous topics, you will find a wealth of information.

How much fiber are you eating? I found that my stomach got completely flat once I ate enough fiber (30 grams/day). Doing abwork is not going to make your stomach flat. It is either fat on top or you may be bloated. I suggest cardio at least 4 times a week and eat enough fiber.
Good luck,
Cari

Number one....why would you expect to lose your tummy in 2 months??? Many of us have yet to lose our tummies in 10 years!! Be a little more patient!!

Aside from that I will say it is the bread and pasta that may be killing you. Cut it out or definitly cut it back. Get your carbs from vegetables and fruits if you can....

Good Luck!!

I definitely see a noticeable change when I decrease carbs and increase fiber and the amount of water I drink, irrespective of my workouts.

I agree with Naughtoj. You probably need to cut out the breads and pasta. It's probably not the pasta and bread, but what you are putting "on" it. I have been doing ab work consistently for at least 10 years and if I'm a little overweight, it sticks out, bad. Genetically, I have one of those pot bellies (lower ab protrusion) and I'm short (5')which makes it worse. So to hide my stomach, I need to almost be underweight. It's not fair, but I can't stand it when people say "you probably just need to tone up and exercise" LOL, if they only knew!!!!;-)

Love me love my belly!

As long as you keep you caloric intake in balance with your caloric output, it doesn't matter whether you eat carbs, protein or fat. All bodies are different. I have slim limbs, small butt and thighs because I store my body fat on my ab and hip area, an apple. Maybe you should reevalute your expectations. Not everyone can look like Cathe. I know I can't but I am in great physical shape, strong and slim and fit. I would never ever give up a food I love for the sake of aesthetics. I eat absolutely anything I want but I moderate high fat foods. I have read posts where people state that they use non fat cheese and I have to wonder how they do that. I eat cheese and butter in moderation because they are so delicious and can be part of a healthy diet. Don't buy into the idea that we all need to be flat bellied and muscular. It's not doable for many of us. My BMI is 21 which is nice and healthy in spite of my belly. I have been obsessed over food and exercise at various times but these days I preach moderation and I accept my body because the only way I can be content and happy is to do just that. I hope you do acquire a flat belly but love yourself whatever happens!

I meant that when I don't get enough fiber I am not regular and then my lower abs stick out. If I keep my fiber regulated then everything works the way it is supposed to, and ever since I started eating at least 30 grams of fiber a day my stomach has been flat as can be. A lot of people don't agree with me about this fiber thing, but I don't care- it works for me!!

Odds are in Cari's case that as soon as she upped her fiber intake, she ate less calories, or less of the "bad" stuff, therefore dropping some of her abdominal fat. Plus I know with the more fiber you eat, less calories are absorbed from the meal that contained the fiber..
