hypothetical question

A friend of mine asked me this hypothetical question...

If you were at your ideal weight and were guaranteed to stay there forever.... would you still workout as much and eat as clean?

I answered no. BUT I would work out about 4 days a week instead of 6 and not feel so guilty if I missed one or two workouts. The same thing pretty much goes for the eating part - I think I would still eat clean the majority of the time just because eating junk always makes me feel sick and bloated. It just feels better to eat clean. But I'd probably eat fast food/restaurant food a little more often than I do now.

Hmmm...that's an interesting question! I like to work out so I would hope that I would continue to do it but like you, Laura, maybe just not as often.

As far as the eating goes...well, I LOVE to eat, and I still LOVE lots of foods that I try to avoid these days so I would probably slack on the eating part ALOT...I have to admit that! }( }( }(

I would have to say... yes. I love to work out! I love the way I feel after I sweat hard and I hate the way I feel after I eat crappy stuff. Plus, I am naturally an active person and I used to be an athlete, so it sorta helps me relive my "glory days." :)

A couple of years ago, I would have said NO WAY! But now, I'm very interested in eating for health and exercising for the wonderful feelings it gives me. For that reason I'm going in the more vegan/natural foods direction and getting into yoga. Now, I'm NOT vegan yet, just to clear that up, but I'm slowly trying to work myself into that direction. It's a whole new world when you look at it in how nutrition and exercise nourish the body and not only in how you look.

I'd still work out a lot but maybe not as much. I am proud to have a strong body & a strong heart. When I'm older, I'd want to be as stong & self-sufficient as possible. I refuse to be dependant on medication, equipment and/or others for help during my everyday activities if I could do anything to help prevent it now.

Now food is another ball of wax. I love all sorts of food and apparently, it loves me right back as it hugs my body so well. I would eat whenever & whatever I felt like eating. Whether it be clean food, regular food, gourmet or fast food, I'd say bring it on.

I would definitley still work out hard because it feels so good. I would definitley eat a lot more unhealthy. I would eat a lot more chocolate chip cookies than I do now. I would probably eat more cheese and pizza too. Oh well, one can dream.

I would still work out to keep good muscle tone and down-sized lower body, but heck no! You bet I'd load up on the junk if I were guaranteed my weight would stay the same! That would be just lover-ly!

Wow, my first response was "no way," but the more I thought about it, I realized that I really enjoy the way I feel when I eat better and exercise, and I think I would actually try to keep it up. It would be much more difficult, though, without the weight incentive to keep me honest.

I think I would, though I would probably do a lot less cardio and more weight lifting. For some reason, I've been really bored with all the stuff I used to enjoy cardio-wise; I think I overdid it this summer.

As for eating, I would keep doing just what I do know. I'm careful about what it eat (with the exception of weekly pizza--mmmmm!!!) because I'm disease paranoid. And, like Kassia, it seems that any time I try to eat junk, it makes my stomach hurt and I feel yucky the next day.

I would eat chocolate every single day--maybe twice a day.
I would eat my beloved pasta (not that icky ww kind) several days a week.
Bacon with those eggs, please!

Workouts? Whenever....I definitely wouldn't push myself so hard if I didn't need to. I don't enjoy it (cardio, that is) as much as I did when I was younger. I DO enjoy weight lifting.

I would continue to work out because it helps me fight stress, which is the main reason I work out. Also, guaranteed ideal weight doesn't mean guaranteed shape. If your body isn't toned, it doesn't look good no matter what you weigh.

As for clean eating, I would continue that in order to be healthy, get the nutrition I need and avoid diseases like cancer and heart disease.

So, I wouldn't change much at all. Might eat an extra dessert once in a while, though.

This is a really good question and I think I have to agree with most of you. I exercise and eat right mostly for how it makes me feel rather than how I look (although it's a very nice benefit!). I might slack off a little with the workouts - although it's fun to personally challenge yourself. I would still try to eat 90% clean to fuel my body properly, keep my tummy happy, and to ward off heart disease and other illnesses.

I am probably going to stay at my weight and I am o.k. with it. I just can't eat 50 million cals a day ALL the time. So if I can't do it everyday, then what is the point? I still have to eat healthy because I don't like the way I would feel if I didn't. Makes my insides feel so damn nasty! LOL! I still work out and love feeling DOMS. Just love the way eating right and working out makes me feel...wouldn't stop no matter what. I love challenges too.

Working out is my stress relief. Also, I have a horrible family history, health-wise, and so I work out to try to combat that. Same with eating. I don't honestly think I'd change much. It's not just about weight. It's about health too.:)

DItto. Also, my stomach goes nuts when I don't eat clean. It has no problem with chocolate though! :7

Weight doesn't really tell me much. Weight can be muscle, fat, water, bone density... And according to some weight charts, I'm barely in my normal range. Hard to determine what is "normal" these days. So I'd like to tweak it a little and say that if I got to my ideal lifting weights for each body part, I'd still work out as OFTEN, but vary the intensities of my workouts more. I'd also increase my deconditioning phases. I'd TRY to eat as cleanly as possible, as I'm doing now, but there'd be periods when I'd take a step back from that and live a little, as I'm doing now. Great question, Laura.
