hummus ideas?

Does anyone have any good ideas about how to use hummus? I was thinking of using some mixed with balsamic vinegar as a salad dressing. I know I can use it as a spread on wraps. Anything else???

Try some with falafel. Also, stuff tomatoes with garlic and hummus, dab of olive oil on top, that's really good.

Delfin,

I sometimes use it in a meatless meatloaf instead of nut butters. I think less calories and more protein. Makes things stick together better.

I think some ppl use it as a dip and/or a spread (like butter...but healthier;-)) I agree w/ Janie. It has few calories and more protein than regular butter. Much healthier.

I love it as a dip w/ any kind of veggies- peppers, carrots, broccoli, etc. It is good on wraps or even w/ some whole wheat crackers. Thanks for the reminder!

Hugs,

Amy- You can buy Hummus at the store.

I love it with tortillas or pitas (or wraps), kalamata olives and feta cheese. If your Vegan, skip the cheese and just do the olives. YUM!!!

I make a wrap with a sprouted grain tortilla, hummus, sliced cucumber, shredded carrot, sliced red pepper, sliced red onion, romaine lettuce or baby spinach, whatever you like. You could also do something similar by wrapping all the ingredients (except the lettuce or spinach) in collard leaves or large lettuce leaves.

You can also use it as a dip for crudités (raw veggies).

I LOVE to use it as salad dressing, usually mixed with some horseradish and/or white wine vinegar.

Another favorite way is to use it as a "sauce" for pasta and veggies. Just toss it over some cooked whole wheat pasta and roasted or sauteed veggies. Add a little vegetable broth or vinegar and you have dinner. My special favorite is portobello mushrooms, broccoli, garlic and onions!

Laura - hummus is chick peas, garlic, lemon, olive oil, tahini (sesame paste), cumin, all pureed together. It's a middle eastern food. Absolutely delicious and you can find it at the grocery store with other dips and things. At my store it's in the deli area.

It's super easy to make at home if you have a food processor or blender.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm especially intrigued with using it in a meatless meatloaf and as a sauce for pasta. My mouth is watering... it's lunchtime!!!

I make hummus all the time, in fact, I buy chickpeas by the case at Costco/Sam's club!

When I make it, I keep back the juice in the can and when I get it to the right consistency, I put some aside for dips. The rest get whirred up with the rest of the juice and more lemon juice and a little balsamic vinegar to make a super yummy salad dressing.

I make it myself, just like everything else. Can't trust the manufactures.
